The First Clue (please read)

Greetings. I am sending a message that you have to figure out.
This is not a fun riddle, this is a serious, formal message. I
will write small poems as clues. If you reply with a guess, I
shall not respond if you get it right. Enjoy the first clue.
(Some of these may not rhyme)
What was once here a while, now withering away.
Went from many different stages, and now is fading.
Everyone loses someone eventually.
But what haunts you is a lack of presence...
Some may come back to haunt you.
Some may never be seen again...
But you'll always be waiting. Something will happen.
But the only question is when?...
