[center]Overview[/center]
Just a couple things you may or may not have a known to help
improve the performance of your PC/Laptop. I've been hearing
some complaints about the server lagging, but everything seems
fine to me so far. I want you guys to try some of these out if
you already don't do it on a daily or weekly basis.
I'm assuming you already know how to navigate through your
computer, or if not, use search.
We will be mainly using the Command Prompt

Operating System. The process should be just be about the same.

[center]Getting to Know your PC[/center]
1. Open Command Prompt
2. Type 'msinfo32' then hit enter ::

A window should pop up called System Information

Focos on the Processor, Total & Available Physical Memory, Total
and Available Virtual Memory.

Physical Memory

vs. Virtual Memory
Both are Random Access Memory (RAM). Your PC goes through
physical RAM first moving on to virtual RAM.
Virtual Memory is used when your PC runs out of physical RAM to
use. Virtual RAM utilizes a part your hard drive space to make a
paging file. The data your PC would have sent to the physical
RAM is now being sent to a paging file. It is possible to change
the size of this paging file.

1. Open Control Panel
2. Change the 'View by:' to Small icons or Big icons

4. Click on Degragment and Optimize Drives

Use this tool on a Hard Drive, not on a Solid State Drive.
What the de-fragmenting tool does is take all your files and
consolidate them into one area. A Hard Drive uses a spinning
platter

to store any anything you save on
our PC. When your downloading/installing something, that platter
is spinning and writing all that information your downloading
onto the disc. All that information is fragmented (all over the
place).
All this fragmentation cause your PC to work more to find all
that information your trying to access. When your files are in
one place after de-fragmenting, it becomes easier for your PC to
find the information.
You may find your games loading faster after defragmenting.

Extra notes:
1. If you for any reason don't have access to command prompt,
push Win + R and type msinfo32 there instead.
2. Regarding drive fragmentation. It is when file is split to
different locations on the harddrive (albeit the file will
always look like one piece for you on your pc). It occurs when
you delete an old file and a new one takes it's place, but is
bigger than the old file, therefore a part of it must be written
elsewhere. The head than has to access both parts of the file,
which takes longer than if it was one piece. Defragmentation is
a special smart way to move files in a way they are not split in
any way and thus provide the highest I/O speed possible
This is for example how a fragmented drive looks:

Red parts contain fragmented files, green parts are unmovable
and blue parts not fragmented at all. White is for free space.
Also, free space can be fragmented too if it wasn't enough
already :D

Note that it is impossible to defragment a hard drive
completely, because some files, such as core Windows files, can
not be moved from one place to another.

Now for another ways for speeding up your terraria:
1. Close unneccessary programs. As you use your pc more and
more, there may appear more programs that are running nigh
permanently. Known examples could be Skype or Steam. Those
proccesses however also take some proccessor time and closing
the ones you don't need can help you. For example if you don't
need skype, close it.
2. Increase priority of Terraria amongst proccess. Although you
might have never noticed it, each program/proccess has a
priority. This priority signifies how much performance will be a
given proccess allowed to use in comparison to other proccesses.
There are four priorities:
- Low
- Lower than average
- Normal
- Higher than average
- High
- Real Time
You can change a proccesses priority with Task Manager. Opening
Task Manager is easy, just press Ctrl + Shift + Escape and it
will open. Now if you have Win 7 and lower, you directly see the
proccesses, so it is easier. If you have Win 8 and higher, you
will first nead to head to the Details tab.
There you will see a list of proccesses. Some names, you will
know, some not. DON'T close any proccess unless you know you are
doing. You could destabilize the system which could lead to a
forced restart or BSOD. Scroll until you find Terraria.exe (or
terraria.exe on some systems). Note that you should have
Terraria already running. When you find it, rightclick it and
select a higher priority than it has. I recommend High or Higher
than average, but not Realtime. While Realtime priority is the
highest, it also takes performance of other proccesses and can
be somewhat dangerous if the proccess has high performance
demand.
After you change it (you would need to do it every time), you
should notice a noticeable increase in performance.
