Chairman Debate
By: iqforu Date: January 17, 2011, 10:37 am

Elections begin tomorrow, so I would like to commence a debate
between all members running for Chairman.

The role of the Supreme Nomic in our game, and from this answer,
what the future should hold.

The Supreme Nomic should be like a Constitution. It should
specifically state the roles of the different parts of
government, the rights of the players, and restrictions on all
Nomics.
The future of the game should use this to create a more perfect
Nomic. All subNomics should be partially restricted but nothing
that limits the creativity of Nomic. This is through a new
Supreme Nomic of sorts. Or a fixed one.

I firmly believe that the current Supreme Nomic ruleset
currently upholds all these ideas. So I disagree with your
assumption that we must demolish the current ruleset and restart
completely. I think the ruleset is 95% there (obviously it
isn't flawless, I was exaggerating in our other debate) but it
only requires minor changes.
I think the fix to the judicial system will pretty much solve
it, as well as your idea Chairman for allowing all players of
all sub-nomics of Supreme Nomic to vote in elections.
One thing I disagree in your stance on the future of our Supreme
Nomic is regarding the economy. I wonder if the system could be
abused. Example, a player could use a totalitarian dictatorship
in his own nomic to give himself unlimited points (which could
be attained quite easily by any of us), convert points into
another's nomic, and take their power away. I think games
should be kept seperate; perhaps you could convert points to
Newtons, but not into points of another nomic's currency.

We'll take this point by point.
I feel the same as you. I do not wish to trash what we have. I
talked in my speeches about having great ideas put into place. I
do feel that we need to fix larger sections and I wish for the
Supreme Nomic to eventually be flawless, which is why I am
trying to get smaller legislation passed to do so. In fact, the
only MAJOR change that I was asking for was an economy.
The judicial system does need work. Somehow, it just gives me a
bad feeling. Something about it isn't working but I can't quite
put my finger on it.
The economy I realize is a testy idea, for sure. But, in the
rule that I proposed about this, I specifically stated that "2)
It is up to the other Nomics if they allow the transfer of money
between subNomics." so I think that would fix your issue of
taking over other subNomics. Also, I said that "A player may
take money out of the Initial Billion dollars by the Chairman's
Approval. This money may be used in any Nomic." In other words,
it is up to the Chairman if they are allowed to transfer their
points to Newtons. Also, if they happen to pay off the Chairman,
the VicePresident can hold a hearing in that case.

This is you, speaking here

/>just yesterday. (referring to the Supreme Nomic ruleset)
We could scrap our original ideals and create a brand new
one from scratch.
Will all due respect, I think that scrapping the ruleset will
not give the image of a stable nomic, which is something we so
urgently need.
The judicial system needs a round-table discussion, with all
members of all nomics, to sort out how it will work. I will
create that discussion now.
I'm willing to work with you and the Secretary in crafting a
economic system that will be effective in keeping the nomics
balanced yet independent of one another.

You seem to be taking words out of my mouth. You also stated
that you felt the players were flawed. If the same players
created the Supreme Nomic is it possible, then that the Supreme
Nomic is perfect? Show me one thing that was done by a flawed
person that turned out perfect.
I truthfully do not want to scrap the ruleset. I said that as a
suggestion. And that's exactly what it is, just like saying we
can completely scrap the site and go back to playing on paper.
It's just a suggestion. I in no way wish for this to happen but
if that is what we agree on, I will try my best to found a new
one.
With the Judicial system, I did post a new idea for it if you
would like to look at it.
As with the economics, we need to really work on that. There is
a proposal. We just need to fix it.
