       The dispute between powers can be described from a hypothesis of
       a growing diffusion of power (with China on the rise, but the
       United States maintaining dominance in the military and
       financial fields, among others), multipolar (with interrelation
       between different poles of power) or bipolar (with parity
       between the two dominant powers). Merke favors the first option
       and warns that the US has the power resources to condition the
