Modern AU: post-reunion headcanons

So, some of you know about the fic I'm currently writing, Of
Mice and Men, and a few days ago I realized I have no idea how
to finish it -.- [s]I probably shouldn't panic, but since it's
the last chapter and it's been months since I last updated, I
honestly just wanna throw the end of the fic out there and get
rid of it.[/s] Because I'm not sure I should be using the forum
for this sort of purpose and I don't want to make this a
discussion only for people who read it (and ruin it for them):
let's think of random situations that can happen in the real
world if Shion and Nezumi were to reunite. I'm not looking for
anything specific for the the AU I created, I just want some
random inspiration on the topic so just throw ideas at me!
(In case you do want to know what the AU looked like but didn't
read the fic: Nezumi used to live in London but came back to
Tokyo for a while, met Shion, couple lovey-dovey stuff, Nezumi
decides to go back to London)

I was actually thinking more in the direction of Shion being
afraid of Nezumi leaving again? I'm not really sure, I talked
about it with my proof-reader the day after I posted the latest
chapter and it made so much sense then but it's been 2-3 months
and I have no idea how to convey something like that...
I tried thinking in about Safu giving Nezumi a hard time, but
then wouldn't Shion protect Nezumi rather than say 'yes Nezumi
you're such an ***hole for leaving me'. Or that Nezumi would
bring it up to Shion, but I just don't see Nezumi as the type to
simply go ahead and start a deep serious relationship
conversation. And wouldn't Shion just insist that he's fine?
[s]I'm not even sure what I'm asking for, because what I'm
saying right now is really specific. I'm sorry OTL[/s]
So, I'm going to try to move this conversation as far as
possible from my fic so I can see completely different
approaches. How about fun NezuShi moving in together headcanons?
They'd probably need some more space for books, assuming that
Shion has his own and Nezumi also has a lot. I also imagine
Shion having a dog, and Nezumi really not liking it at first.
Would the dog hate him back or be all cute and try to become
friends with Nezumi? Either way, Shion probably walked on some
pretty strange situations between the two ^^"

Nezumi would have a cat. They could be antisocial and dramatic
together.
Also... on the topic of having that "are you going to leave
again" conversation, I see it going like Nezumi is about to head
out to go to the store or something and their conversation
starts like this:
Nezumi: "I'll be back in a while." *laughs a little* "Maybe."
Shion: *totally serious* "Would you really leave again? Just
like that?"
Nezumi: *smile leaves his face, mildly shocked* "Um..."
And then they'd have their conversation and Shion would probably
end up crying a little bit.

I quite like the idea of Shion having some kind of scruffy
animal as a pet, whether it be a dog, cat or bird. Something
that he found on the streets or in a shelter (and it's clearly
seen better days: is missing patches of fur/missing a limb, and
gets terribly anxious around strangers). But despite this, Shion
adores it; and the animal adores Shion right back since he was
the one who cared for it and made an effort when no-one else
would.
And, obviously, it hates Nezumi's guts and tries to monopolise
Shion's attention and affections so Nezumi can't have any.

When I think about a dog concerning Nezumi and Shion, I always
think about this one:

I think he'd bite Nezumi. ^^° But not really...just a little
bit. I think he'd also protect Nezumi, because the dog is smart
and he knows that Nezumi means a lot to Shion. (He's protect
Shion like a father his daughter, putting her bf to the acid
test. XD)
If I remember it correctly, Shion has a dog in "Mice and Men".
And I think he's never give him away since he's from Inukashi,
so Nezumi has to bear with the dog.

@Weisel omg Nezumi with a cat this idea is just gold :D :D
Combining this with @Spyed 's idea, an AU where Nezumi walks
around in some street and sees this abandoned kitty so he picks
him up and the next day he goes to the vet and Shion is the vet!
And Shion thinks Nezumi is really caring because he picked up
the kitty but Nezumi is trying to keep up his 'don't give a
sh*t' front. ~enter fluff later~
Also Weisel I really liked the idea for the conversation. Though
it's really sad and I think I might cry trying to write
something like that (but that's one of the things that make it
so great :D )
And, Spyed, the dog would never stop barking if he'll see them
making out or something, and if Nezumi ever decides to buy Shion
presents, he would hid it :'D
@Ahiku now I'm imagining the dog loading a shotgun asking Nezumi
what he's planning to do in the future and all sorts of other
father-like questions ^^" I don't think Nezumi would tell Shion
to get rid of any pet he might have, even if it wasn't a gift
from Inukashi ^^"
How about days off? Would Nezumi and Shion go somewhere to hang
out? Sit together and read? umm... other stuff? ;)

I've been waiting for a forum like this!
Oh jeez these animal head canons are so perfect, I'm more than a
little obsessed with these two keeping pets of some kind.
I can see Shion potentially having a tortoise instead of a furry
mammal at first-- something to take care of that isn't quite as
time-consuming as a cat or dog. Of course tortoises practically
last forever so Nezumi better adjust to that guy's existence.
But Shion being surrounded by dogs is important to me on so many
levels.
I'm loving these vet Shion ideas but hear me out:
Dog groomer Shion.
Fancy pet bath-giving Shion.
Shion wearing one of those pet store aprons with little bath
bubbles on his handsssss
hnngh
I've had this AU percolating in my head for awhile with Shion
working at one of those fancy pet salons (bonus for
boss!Inukashi) and Nezumi walking in with some mangy flea-ridden
thing that he found on the street and in a weird moment of
empathy (yes empathy, not sympathy) decided to give the pup a
hand.
Or Shion working at a petco like place (as a dog groomer) and
Nezumi coming in with sick mice.
Do those count as reunions? I don't know.
Since I don't think they count as much-- let's see.
Post-reunion real-world Shion I can see as being nervous about
Nezumi leaving but I think Nezumi'd feel nervous about staying.
If they came from different backgrounds there's of course class
differences to deal with, and the Nezumi of your fic seems
preoccupied by the fact he doesn't belong in the same 'world' as
Shion. What in him has changed to allow him to return? Is his
wanderlust an important part of him still or has he found
something (or someone) worth sticking around for-- or taking
with him?
Is the reunion planned or unplanned-- would either of them have
wanted it planned?
(I enjoy the idea of them accidentally bumping into each other
at like flipping Home Depot or some place with absolutely no
ambiance and being forced to reconcile their own feelings in the
midst of everyone else just going about their lives like they
were trying to do.)
Or are they both ready? Have they arranged the meeting? I can
see them, especially in a modern AU exchanging e-mails or
classic letters since they're not in QUITE as awful of a
predicament as they are in canon. So in that case reunion would
definitely be planned...but how do you plan a reunion for
someone you adore that you haven't seen in forever? Buy them a
snazzy dinner? Invite them home? ...Where even is home? Each
other? Jeez that's cheesy. Would they say that? Would they think
that? How awkward would that be?
Jeez I don't know I'm literally just typing out questions
instead of answering them.

Alrightalrighalrighalrighalrigh this is just perfect I can't
decide what I like better Shion in a doctor's robe or Shion
covered with bubbles washing a dog O.o

Mm... to answer these questions I'd have to spoiler you ^^"
Although that, to be honest, even if I were to answer you, I
couldn't put it in words. My proof-reader told me I should talk
about Nezumi's inner conflict, and since I didn't really know
how to do that exactly... I just wrote. I don't even know what I
did. Nezumi is one of the only characters that I can relate too
so much that I can just write what's on my mind and hopefully it
doesn't end up too ooc...
tbh one of my greatest problems right now is that I wrote so
many depressing things recently that every time I try to write
fluff I think it sounds really stupid and cheesy OTL
Yeah AUs are fun :D And asking questions is great because it
gets me thinking :)

Wow, idea Nezumi and cat goes to vet and meet Shion is really
nice, I would love to read AU ff like that, it's fresh compare
to all school AU around. School AU isn't bad, but most of ff
like that are unfinished and don't look like they will get
finished ever.
