       5 Days and it's a draw.. with nothing happening for hours...
       always grinds my gears when folks rail on the NFL but are
       cricket fans ::)

       exactly.
       so being "a long sport" isn't the real issue. it's the
       perception of lots of breaks and taking a long time, those 2
       factors that almost immediately scares people off before
       watching.
       the other day i took a group to the pub for Bears vs Colts game,
       when Cutler threw 40yds to Jeffrey, it was great, everyone
       cheered and watched. i think we need to look at changing the
       perception of the game (though how to do it... is debatable!)
       Also, Fantasy Football is a great way to get non-fans interested
       into the sport (i've also done this recently with a friend).
       He's now learning more and keeping an eye on scores and games
       etc, but FF is usually convoluted or confusing for the newbie.
       Perhaps a simplified version of such a game would reach to wider
       audiences
