The F-16 Super Bobcat is the direct successor of the F-8 Bobcat
Strike Fighter, taking the same designs and needs, and putting
them into a newer, modern aircraft. The changes to the system
are numerous, while the fuselage remains relatively unchanged,
allowing the user the ability to use interchangeable parts left
over from other aircraft.
The F-16 has added the second newest turbofan jet engine to the
build, giving it unparalleled acceleration and a powerful
thrust. The sheer force of the engine opens a whole other series
of roles, and the ability to outrun enemy fighters easily.
Combined with the increased speed, allowing for fast super
cruise speeds, the Super Bobcat can do much, much more than the
Bobcat.
Another benefit of the Super Bobcat is the increased fuel tank,
giving the plane a longer range, and a longer loiter time,
allowing for longer supersonic speeds. This, coupled with extra
armor, increases the weight, but decreases chances of explosion
or penetration by shrapnel.
The cockpit of the F-16 has been simplified and strengthened,
giving the pilot more room to look around, and gives a much
better visibility. This, combined with upgraded equipment, makes
the plane a devastating combat aircraft. However, one addition
to the F-16 cockpit that is not present on the F-17 and F-8, is
the addition of both manual and computer bombing sights. The
addition of a more powerful computer, allows for the use of both
rockets and dumb bombs to a better degree. It also allows for
the addition of torpedoes.
In addition to the high level IRST in the nose, the fighter
bomber comes pre loaded with an advanced FLIR and visual camera
system, which allows the RIO and Pilot to perform better, more
accurate, strike. The FLIR and IRST can both be up linked to
both the radar system, as well as the actual weapons themselves.
The F-16's avionics features an upgraded, powerful AESA and look
down radar system that gives it near unparalleled fighter and
ground target tracking, but also necessitates the addition of
the RIO. Because of it's massive power, the plane can also be
converted into both an electronics platform, and an AEWACS with
simple additions. For the pilot, an advanced HUD system on his
helmet allows him to track and lock on targets, or direct radar
or infrared tracking, with a turn of his head, giving them an
unparalleled defense capability.
In addition to the flares, chaff, and jam capabilities on the
fighter bomber, the system also adds newer additions to the
battlefield. Featured in the back of the aircraft is a
detachable decoy, which looks exactly like the F-16 on radar.
This decoy, which can be controlled by the RIO, feeds back
information to the aircraft via a fiber uplink, but can also be
detached. The plane itself can act like a decoy, with its radar
system allowing it to not only increase its size on radar, but
also to change its look. Both the IRST and the FLIR can detect
missile burns, and the addition of infrared detectors on the
aircraft, and an advanced RWR, allows the plane to detect
incoming weapons. Finally, the system adds a newer kind of
defense, a visual, infrared, and radar smoke screen deployer
situated in the back of the aircraft, can discharge VIRSS
grenades, which detonate at timed distance. The detonation of
the VIRSS attracts the infrared missile, while the smoke itself
contains enough chaff to disrupt radar. Finally, aircraft
following the fighter bomber will be forced to maneuver around.

Features:
While carrying over the additions that the F-16 brings, the F-17
focuses on being a powerful multi role air superiority fighter,
rather than a strike fighter. While still maintaining over
10,000 kg of ordinance, the Foxcat can indeed perform similar
duties. It does, however, maintain much different capabilities
and additions.
The hard points, while remaining the same, focus more on air to
air, and as such cannot hold the same weight. The addition of a
missile bay in the middle also gives a decrease in air to ground
ordinance, while also maintaining enough space to launch cruise
missiles. In addition to this air to air difference, the switch
to a 20 mm rotary cannon instead of a 30 mm auto cannon lets it
fire more rounds faster into the enemy aircraft.
To this point, the avionics focus more on tracking enemy
aircraft, as well as locking on. The FLIR upgrade is removed,
and in its place, another IRST is added. While degrading the
ability to lock onto ground targets, the IRST can lock on,
albeit at shorter range. The powerful AESA is focused more on
tracking air targets, and the subtraction of the powerful look
down radar gives more space for other avionics.
The engine itself is the top of the line, being fitted with a
three dimensional thrust vectoring nozzle, and a more powerful
afterburner. The super maneuverability of the fighter, however,
is still beaten by the F-14 Super Foxhound, but is second to
none after the aircraft.
It does have, however, one other addition: a stealthier skin
that features more curves, and radar absorbing material that
reduces its radar signature. To be sure, this plane is a
powerful addition to any carrier group.
