Thoughts on Colonies
By: Sparta Date: August 30, 2015, 9:15 am

What are your guys thoughts about bringing colonies to this
nation as long as they are the size of the initial land claim?
So, each state(that borders water) could have two colonies. I
believe this would bring a unique type of RP to the table and
would cause more RP to happen, diplomatically and warfare. We
would, inevitably, have a situation like the French and Indian
War because of two states dispute over land for a colony and I
believe it would be interesting!

If colonial expansion is subject to Congressional oversight,
then I fail to see how overlapping claims would be a thing. (I
imagine country X applies to take Guatemala for example and
Congress says 'hold on there buddy, country Y already lays claim
there').
Something that I wonder about however, is the integration issue.
If Frijstaat were to expand, it would want to expand directly
north (into Canada) to create another province as integral to
the nation of Frijstaat as the 5 current districts. It seems
like this would be frowned upon, but it also seems weird to
allow states to expand into neighboring (albeit outside of the
NCSA) territory but not being able to fully integrate that
territory if they wanted to (unless of course I viewed the NCSA
more like the Holy Roman Empire, in which case having
state-integral land outside of the confines of the HRE wouldn't
be that weird).
Also, would the mapmaker be the one to map all of these colonial
claims as well? Especially at the beginning, that seems like a
crap-ton of extra work for them.

Well since I proposed the bill I'm all for it. The congressional
oversight would just be to keep track of the colonies
whereabouts I guess. But, who knows a warfare over territories
could happen, nations and states have broken away and broken the
law numerous times its not like the role play has to be a
perfect utopia picture. I proposed it to give a new RP theme
instead of war, war, war, war, war, and some more war. It just
gets boring after awhile. I'm just gonna let the bill play
itself out really, if the folks here want it theyll say yay if
they don't it'll be a nay, that's how I'm gonna go about this.
But I agree with you Sparta it would be interesting to see a war
over land, it would be very cool.

This is why I would move for it to be Congressionally
administered and difficult to obtain.

I agree Turk, I think my bill says it needs to be approved by
Congress right? If it's not I should add that in.

I'm for colonies, because it is an interesting RP opportunity. I
mean, why not?
I personally wouldn't claim any, though.
But if other nations want some, why not? I don't see any harm in
it

Technically, I already have a Colony (Suas) because it was
allowed about 10 months ago. So I'm up for colonies as long as
they aren't too big or unrealistic.

I've said from day one (Well actually day eleven) of this
region. No new colonies. It only adds more hassle for people.
Every time we add something, people interpret that we need to go
a step further. It's a slippery slope that is an awful idea.

It's not an awful idea. Many nations here could use it to lower
high levels of population density.
