The DEFENDER Remote Weapon Station is a remotely controlled
weapons station (RWS) that can be mounted to vehicles and
stationary platforms.
Modular and efficient, the system consists of a stabilized
firing platform, a fire control system and control grips. Via a
standardized interface several weapons can be mounted to the
platform, such as:
[li].50 cal heavy machine gun[/li]
[li]7.62 mm machine gun[/li]
[li]5.56 mm machine gun[/li]
[li]40 mm automatic grenade launcher[/li]
[li]anti-tank guided missile [/li]
The interface and operating software permit the weapon system to
be changed within minutes. The respective armaments are
automatically detected and the weapon station adapts its
ballistics accordingly.
The system is operated by remote control by the vehicle crew
from within the armoured interior, using a monitor with
integrated day- and night-vision devices.
Gyroscopic stabilization enables an extremely precise and
controlled deployment of the weapons even during high-speed
movement through rugged terrain.
The system can be mounted on the vehicle without making roof
openings, due to its modular design. This means that no moving
parts are located in the interior of the vehicle and the level
of protection of the vehicles is not reduced by the integration.
The integrated security system of the weapon stations also takes
the vehicle silhouette, the vehicle-specific arrangement of
hatches, doors and body areas, into account. The weapon station
will thus not fire on the vehicle itself by mistake.
Detached Line of Sight (DLOS) enables the gunner to keep his
sights on target, independent of ballistic solution for the
weapon/ammo in use.
360° observation and engagement capability
Thermal Imager with dual field of view, autofocus and e-zoom.
Color Daylight camera allows a wide field of view up to 45
degrees while observing, and more than 30 times optical magnifed
close-up view of the target area when identifying and engaging a
long distance target.
The eye-safe Laser Range Finder provides extremely accurate
range measurements, providing the DEFENDER first round on target
capability.
Incorporates a high volume ammo can & add-on armor for improved
sensor and servo protection.
Operational 24/7 and in all weather conditions.
Specifications (excluding weapons and ammo):

DEFENDER Dual RWS is an extension of the existing RWS that
includes the use of two weapons. This innovative system also
provides a dual user functionality (Gunner / Commander). The
coaxial weapon is mounted on the same axis as the main gun, the
system automatically compensates for the parallel axis between
the sights and the axis. Switching between weapons is intuitive
and happens by simply pushing a button depending on mission
need.
Unit Cost C$79,992

Heller firearms thanks the various nations for their orders,
they will be shipped asap. To Enduranca, no there is currently
no naval version. As the Confederate State of Missouri State
Guard is our current main client, you can see why the issue has
never come up.

The nation understands, but does put a request in for the
future.
In the meantime, the 50 dual-firing DEFENDERS are installed on
the nation's LAVs.

Due to the possible demand for naval variants, DEN asks if they
may create a naval variant of this for export. On license, of
course.
