How about we just give new players amnesty for a set duration to
give them time to adjust to the region and build up their
factbook and Military. This forum offers more than just war rp.
There are many rp. And they do have the protection to not get
involved in a war rp.
As we can see if a new players sticks around long term players
are pretty much come to their assistance with offers of help.

Good idea. If we give them a sort of "Get out of jail free
card", they can grow more.
Also, DEN is NOT self sufficient. I need food. Lots of it. XD

One of our core rules has always been that no one has to
participate in any role play they don't want to. So I can go
around saying I'm going to attack Turkducken all I want, but if
Turkducken doesn't want to play ball they don't have to. So what
that essentially amounts to is that no state has to engage in a
military RP until they feel they are prepared, or at all for
that matter. Even though I usually have a moderately well
equipped conventional military older members can attest that you
can probably count on one hand the number of military role plays
I've ever been involved in.
Now, is this bill seconded?

Turducken, guys, I had an idea. Turducken let me know if this
would have helped you as far as establishing an army when you
started out. I have another I'd also like to bounce off people
here.
Us larger, more militarized nations should have considerable
defense industries. What if we established a storefront where
new states could just simply come to shop for stuff. I could,
for instance, put up a version of my Leopard Tank clone and my
boxer vehicles. We would put the stats for them there so people
would know what they are buying.
Also, would it be reasonable/useful to develop a template for
the Secretary of Interior to use (and I) when posting acceptance
of land claims. Something like "Claim approved. Don't forget to
sign up for Congress here (link). You might also want to check
out our RP forums to find out if there is something going on you
might be interested in (link, link, link). Or our political
parties (Links). And most of all if you have any questions don't
hesitate to ask (persons inserted here)."
We used to send out an automated PM like this on the other
forum, but can't do that here. I tried to do something like that
here, with the welcome forum, but I'm not sure it's actually
getting seen. At least this way they would get an email
notification about a response to their thread.

I definitely agree that such measures would reduce confusion in
new members, however I apologize for being a little preachy and
losing the focus of the actual bill. Most of my initial
trepidations were probably because of my own personal
nervousness, however I recently had a friend who joined the
community and was rather lost in where to go and what to do. I
assisted him in navigating through the forums, a lot of
confusion can also be seen on our message board on NationStates.
I am personally confused as to why that is, as instructions are
clearly given. The last thing I would like to say is that
feedback would be really important to everyone, especially those
who ask for it.

When people PM or Telegraph me I try to do my best. When we were
at 20 members, it was easy. Now I quite truthfully have my hands
full simply with Congress and the map. Perhaps we could
designate the Secretary of State as a contact on the RMB? Since
he is supposed to deal with "external" matters. ;D Ahhh,
growing pains! I think part of the issue is that we are now a
200+ member region (BTW guys our old top was 193!!!) who is
still thinking/acting like we only have 20 some odd members? We
need to start delegating some duties. ;)

I think the small mindedness is justified on the forums, as it
is a lot of repeat business between the same members. I was
really surprised when the EMC and the Confederacy of Liberty
were removed from the map.

Because the map is a tool primarily used here some time ago, in
our first incarnation, we passed an amendment that if a nation
did not post on the forum for 28 days, or 60 days with notice,
they would be removed from the map. This was to free up space
for new members. However, we had this "escape clause" in the old
claim law that members could petition congress for expansions
above the limit. This led to some issues so when we
reconstituted the region, so to speak, it was removed and a
tighter law put in its place.
