Overview
Montani Semper Liberi
Historically, Appalachia protected itself primarily through a
network of local militias, that could quickly respond to any
threat in a localized area, and in times of full scale war,
could mobilize together as a citizen army. However, lack of
standardization and the rise of the modern era brought the end
to that. In the year 1875, the Department of the Army was
founded, and tasked with creating a professional force capable
of defending Appalachia's sovereign territory against foreign
invaders. Thus the Appalachian Army was established.
The Appalachian Army
The Appalachian Army forms the bulk of the Appalachian Armed
Forces. This is a standing Army deployed in various bases around
the nation. Professional soldiers, they are well trained,
equipped, and organized. They number roughly 200,000 men.
The Appalachian Army Air Corps takes the fight to the skies,
provides fighter/bomber support as well as transports troops
into combat.
The Appalachian Armored Corps supports infantry on the ground by
providing fire support and safe transport on the ground.
The Ranger Corps
The Rangers are an all volunteer, professional light infantry
force, specializing in direct action, reconnaissance, airborne
raids, and counter-insurgency. The rangers work either alone or
in small groups, and are directed with wreaking havoc behind
enemy lines, and working as scouts and snipers for the main
army. The Rangers can mobilize and deploy quickly to anywhere
they need to be, and pride themselves on their recon and combat
abilities. Ranger recruits are pulled from the enlisted ranks of
the Appalachian Army, although whether or not they go through
the training is purely to their choice. Rangers have been and
always will be volunteers.
Appalachian Guard
The Appalachian Guard is the all-infantry citizen army of
Appalachia. Military service is compulsory, and every county
must run a troop. The Guard is composed of non-professional
citizens and led by officers from the Appalachian Army. When the
Rangers and Army invade, they occupy. The Guard also serves as
the logistical basis for the entire Armed Forces during wartime.
The guard will swell to fill many non-combat duties in times of
war.
The Appalachian Logistical Guard works to supply, build, and
facilitate any needs of the Guard.

The Ranger Corps
Here We Stand.
History
The Ranger Corps has it's roots in colonial times, when
Scottish, Irish, and German settlers were pushed to the wild
frontier. There, they were greeted by rough terrain and hostile
natives. Subjugated to constant raids, the settlers banded
together, for they were not about to be forced of their land
again. Allying with a more friendly tribe, the settlers were
able to secure their little claims in what is now Appalachia.
They had learned how to use the Native's tactics against them,
becoming experts in stealth, tracking, scouting, long-range
marksmanship, and guerilla warfare. When Appalachia was first
formed, the Ranger Corps was officially established, with
Commander William Sharpe leading them.
Motto
Here We Stand. This represents the Ranger Corps unshakable
resolve and desire to protect the homeland they and their
ancestors have fought for.
Historical Equipment
The early Rangers were famous for their long range marksmanship,
thanks to their Appalachian long rifles. These rifles were
massive, and took a master rifleman to use effectively. They
took longer to reload than muskets, but were far more accurate
and effective at range. The early Rangers dressed in buckskins
and other dull-earthy colors to provide the best concealment
possible. When the fight got close, they relied on tomahawks,
swords, Bowie knives, and even their rifles as melee weapons.
HTML http://www.weapons-universe.com/Knives/Bowie_Knives/Wild_Bill_Hickok.jpg
Modern Equipment
Today's Rangers still live up to the reputation of being expert
shots, and fierce fighters. They are armed with primarily large
caliber lever action brush rifles, though personal armament is
usually up to the ranger's discretion. They still carry
tomahawks, albeit since modernized. Revolvers are still popular
for their reliability.
