((OOC: This is an unrealistic number, since the AR encompasses a
less-populated region of North Carolina than Carolina Alliance,
and RL North Carolina's population is about 10 million. However,
it's intentional, because the history of the AR involves a mass
immigration of German and other Axis Power refugees following
WWII.))
Climate: Humid sub-tropical
Geography: Marshy land at about sea level on the Eastern coast
(the Tidewater), giving way to farmland and primarily deciduous
forest in the central region; Appalachian foothills giving way
to mountains (the Piedmont and the Blue Ridge range) in the
Western counties -- both heavily forested

Note: Enemies of the state often allege that infant deaths
mostly comprise newborns with congenital defects being "culled",

Note: Categorically prevented by tax policy, which exempts from
tax those who would fall beneath the poverty line and grants
substantial "refunds" to bring them slightly above it.

Note: The average work week is 30 hours, and generous paid
vacations and leave are mandated, which greatly aids in
achieving this figure, along with numerous other labor policies,
e.g. low-level public employment will generally be provided even
if the job isn't entirely necessary. In extremis, conscription
into the Wehrmacht is standard procedure.
Average yearly income: ~40,000 marks (roughly at parity with the
dollar/nummus)
Note: Despite the far-right politics of the government, it
considers all citizens valuable members of the
Volksgemeinschaft, or racial community, and so ensures that
income is distributed quite evenly, though not perfectly so, and
there are a small number of outliers, particlarly amongst
members of the old Southern "aristocratic" landowning class and
descendants of Prussian aristocrats -- the two groups have
thoroughly intermarried and now compose a mostly unified social
elite.
Average income tax rate: 40%
Note: Progressive, i.e. higher for higher income-earners;
capital gains are considered regular income.
Average property tax rate: 40%
Note: Subject of constant political struggle between the
aforementioned social elite and the rest of the Reich's
citizens. The highest leadership tends to be composed of
"commoners", opposed to the privileges of the elite, and
inclined to consider all Aryans more or less equal. However,
upper-mid-level leadership in the Party and military is somewhat
dominated by social elites.

Note: Public practice of Evangelical Christianity prohibited by
Führer Directive 316, following the Theocratic Revolt of 2001,
sparked by the endorsement of Odinism and condemnation of
Christianity along Nietzschian lines in the Völkischer
Beobachter, Das Schwarze Korps, and obliquely in speeches by SS
and other Party officials. Practice of Mormonism, Scientology,
and various other "cults" previously prohibited by Führer
Directive 42. However, since private practice in a home is still
theoretically legal, the Reich can claim (somewhat dubiously) to
support freedom of religion.
Most popular music genres, in order: Country, folk (not the
'60s/'70s sort, but old Irish, German and Appalachian folk
songs), pop/pop-country, and rock.

Note: The 's's on this flag are commonly known to stand for
'Shutzstaffel', and this is true, though their real provenance
is the 'sig' Norse rune, meaning, amongst other things,
'victory'. Their stylization is not, however, as commonly
promulgated, to make them look like lightning bolts, although
the 'sig' rune may be designed to look so. The 'sig' rune is
used as a symbol in other organizations, sometimes alone -- for
example, accomplished members of the Reichsjugend are awarded
one for their uniforms.
