Use of parenthesis

How often to you use parenthetical expressions? Why do you use
them? What do you think of other people's usage of parenthetical
expressions? I find myself to be using them a lot albeit wanting
to stop using them, so that is why I decided to make a thread
about it. The other reason is to see how people's preferences
are to writing a post over the internet and how structure may
affect the responses from that original post.

I try not to use them too much, but I do use them a lot. I use
the ellipsis even more often though...

I used to put them everywhere, but nowadays I try to avoid using
them.
Of course I still use them on smileys ;)

Well, parenthetical expressions are supposed to be information
that is kind of on the side that is... well extra information
that isn't really essential. I use them sometimes, but they
shouldn't really be that effective to a response.
