Chapter 684: The ArmbiSaku Era Begins

Chapter 684 - Manga takes a very wide detour over the juicy
Madara/Hokages/Hagoromo encounter but THINGS GET JUICY
This chapter overall gets a pretty good rating out of me. Maybe
3.2/5? I won't have as much rambling this week as I had for 683
since KISHIMOTO READ MY POST LAST WEEK AND GOT HIS SHIT
TOGETHER!!:d
1. Sakura. SAKURA. S A K U R A!@!#
Over the last couple arcs I've become increasingly frustrated
with the manga's failure to utilize Sakura given its increasing
insistence that Team 7 is all that matters. Any time Sakura got
a chance to shine it was either an outright lie (think to the
three summoning the Sannin summons) or Kishimoto made it into a
joke (hi i'm the smartest of the three lets go get stabbed). The
buck stops HERE!
I'm super stoked that Sakura is away from Naruto and Sasuke and
is still going to have a chance to get screentime and play a
role in the outcome of this battle. Maybe it takes her being
with Obito for it to happen, but hey ;) no complaints.
(Just saying, with the actual literal ARMBISAKU we got this week
on top of the Sakura importance boost I definitely will go to my
grave believing Kishimoto read last week's post)
She's away from Jesus and the emo and, oh my god look, someone
is finally depending on her! It's a nice touch given that last
week Obito was ready to count out the usefulness of her seal.
2. No Mads - u mad? The chapter disappointed me a bit with the
abundance of Kaguya vs. Naruto panels and the failure to address
what happened last chapter in further detail. We have Hashirama
and the Hokages right in front of the Sage. All of them are
hovering above the legs of the mighty Legdara (til death, and
beyond) in what will either be Kishi mashing our backstory with
more of his 2014 how-to-end-an-epic-manga-quickly retcons or
taking this opportunity to get his mind right and set everything
straight. I still have my reservations about the Sage. I do not
trust him.
It looks like all that and all the potential justice for Mads
will have to wait for next week.
3. So what's the damage, Doc?
I think 685 is going to deal with Hashirama meeting Hagoromo. We
have a really good opportunity for uncovered backstory. I'm
kinda excited. If Naruto chasing his elusive Saharan princess
takes more than like six pages I'm gonna be P.O'ed.
