James looked at his watch irritably, he hated waiting in lines,
particularly when it came to coffee. He had been up late the
night before and now his head was starting to throb from from a
caffeine withdrawal. AS the man in front of him continued to
him-haw over what he wanted James snapped. "Oi, either order
somethin' or get in the back of the damned line mate!" Turning
around quickly as if he was going to say something the man
stopped when he saw James. James Donahue was by no means a small
man, he was six foot two, and weighed a little over two hundred
pound's, and had the physique of a running back, broad at the
shoulders and narrow at the hip. Raising an eyebrow James
smirked, "Can I help ya lad?" he asked, his voice carrying a
deep Scottish accent. The man quickly stepped out of the line
and James nodded, "Thank ya kindly." Stepping up to the counter
James smiled at the pretty server behind it. "Mornin' Isabel,
the usual please lass." The server smiled back and quickly wrote
something on a large paper cup, "Long night again Officer
Donahue?" She asked as she made his coffee. "What would make ya
say that lass?" He asked sarcasticaly, "Well," she started to
reply, " the only time you snap at other customers like that is
if you are running late for work. Which it is only six so you
aren't. Or you were working late." She said as she handed him
the coffee, smelling the aeromatic coffee James smiled. "Aye it
was a late one. Thank ya lass, have a good day." He stated
handing her the exact amount for the coffee then walking away.
Stepping out into the sunlight James blinked and took a sip of
his coffee, black and strong. This cafe was the only one in the
city that still made a good cup of coffee in his opinion.
Looking around James made sure his badge was clipped to his belt
and started walking towards the precinct that he worked in.
James Donahue was a Police Detective that worked for the
Anti-gang unit, and he was damn good at his job too.

Dakota usually stayed outside, as stores were unfriendly to the
homeless citizens of the city. But tonight, it was nearly below
freezing, and Dakota had no death wishes that she knew of.
Shuffling into the nearest bar she could find, she lifted her
head once the fierce cold was no long eating at her skin. And
what was the first thing she saw? One of the cities finest.
"Shit. Are you kidding me?" Sighing, she pulled her fingers
through her blond hair, putting her wing-like bangs back into
place and trying to fix her... Exotic... make up. Between her
blue-silver lipstick and the black eyeliner that made a
star-like shape around her eyes, she was easily picked out of a
crowd, and mostly as a hooker. This was an entirely false
accusation, but she was sure word had gotten around the station
by now. Carefully prowling to the bar, she took a seat as far
from the detective as she could, staring straight down at the
counter top.

Finishing off his coffee James tossed it in a garbage just ashis
phone went of, looking at the number he sighed, it was his
Captain. Picking up he pressed the phone to his ear, "Donahue,
go ahead." Listeninghe nodded as he walked, "Okay..... yeah...
got it. Fifth street bar. I'm a block away from there. I'll let
ya know if I find anything Cap." He said and hung up, smiling he
started whistling, perfect, finally got a break, on his case.
Word was there was a banger at the bar who knew about what was
about to happen between two rival gangs, and James wanted to
know everything.Reaching the bar he saw a woman trying to stay
off his radar, and he smirked, she was probably a prostitute or
a junkie, not his prblem. Walking to the bar he leaned against
it and looked around waiting for his contact.

She could have played it cool. A normal person would count their
blessings, hell, maybe even leave. But that goddamn smirk. As
soon as he saw what she was doing, a smirk lit up his face and
lit the defensive match in Dakota. Traipsing up to him, her
brows knit together, she asked tightly, "Excuse me, sir. Can I
help you?" Her green eyes, usually mossy, were now electrified
by her anger. Sure, it was dumb to pick on a cop, but he started
it as far as she was concerned. Picking at her nails, she took a
deep breath and tried to start over. "I'm sorry, it's just, I
saw you look at me, and the expression on your face just made it
seem like you were thinking something particularly asshole-ish."

As the woman walked up to him James couldn't help but let his
eyes go over before smirking at her question, though he said
nothing. When she started again he scratched at his jaw and
forced himself to keep from smirking. "OH aye, I could think of
a couple things ya could help me with. But first, can ya tell
where Jaime Juarez is?" He asked, his calm tone mixed with a
look of sarcastic mischief that filled his steel colored eyes.
As he waited for her to respond he looked around, this was
definitely not a bar for a lone police officer to be, let alone
a very Scottish one like himself. He didn't care though, he had
his sidearm and he was good with it. though if this woman caused
a scene he would probaly have to leave very fast.

Ready to retort as to what exactly he could help her with, his
words froze her on the spot. As soon as he mentioned Juarez,
Dakota backed up. "Sorry, officer. But I stay as far out of gang
activity as I can. A homeless person is just decoration for a
drive by, at best." Shaking her head, she laughed. "Now... Now I
need a drink." Sitting down at the bar she looked at the
bartender for a moment and asked, "Can I get water here for
free? Hot water, if that's okay. It's too cold out there not to
have hot liquids now." Sighing, she looked over at the officer
and shrugged. "Three cheers for homeless people and no money!
But... I like your accent, just saying. What are you doing in
the States?

Sabrina prowled the grounds of her small, secluded home like a
panther guarding it's jungle territory. It was unnecessary, as
no one knew where she lived, or that she was even alive.
Although she was living and breathing, walking and talking,
Sabrina considered herself far from alive. The Sabrina that her
family and friends had known and loved had died long ago, and
what remained was an empty, alter-ego shell. If someone happened
to simply pass by, they would see no real difference. But those
who knew her best, had been close to her, would see it. How her
whole person had gone shades darker and drearier. Her hair that
once shone brown and luxurious gold was now so dark it was
nearly black, and hung straight down over her shoulders. And her
eyes, once the pride of her existence, once swimming with color,
were now onyx black, with only flecks of silver and gray, and
deep as the ocean, and just as terrifying in the right mood.
She realized she must have looked crazy, but she didn't care.
She didn't feel anything, ever. Finally tiring of pacing in her
driveway, she sauntered toward the wrought iron gate that served
only to scare people off. Opening it just a sliver, she slipped
out easily and shut it behind her. Crossing her black jean
covered legs, she folded into a sitting position in front of the
gate, waiting. Her eyes raked over the grounds, yet still unable
to draw any emotion into them. Who would come knocking? And why?
