The Science of Evil A Sonic the Hedgehog fan fiction by
Phoenix-Kat of Deviant Art Chapter One
It was a hot, humid day when I went to Mammoth Cave, Kentucky
with some of my veterinary school classmates and my service
animal. We had heard the caves were quite cool regardless of the
seasons, so we decided to visit to escape the heat. I didn't say
it to my classmates, but I secretly wanted to see if there was
any truth to the rumor that Mammoth Cave held an entrance to the
interior of the Earth. Some people claim Adolf Hitler sent some
of his Nazi troops to Antarctica to look for an opening but no
one was ever able to prove or disprove they found one.
I asked our tour guide, if she knew anything about the rumor.
"I suppose it's possible that the Earth is hallah," our tour
guide remarked, with a VERY Southern accent, "But if it really
were, y'all would probably know about it by now."
"But aren't scientists finding new species all the time?" I
       asked.
"Yeah, I reckon. But somethin' as big as the Earth bein' hallah
couldn't be kept a secret for so long now could it?"
I could tell by the tone in her voice that she was getting quite
       annoyed.
I figured I had better drop it now and shut up. I could have
told her some people think the government knows very well that
the Earth is hollow, and they go to such a great length to keep
it secret that most of the general public does not know.
She looked down at Pippin, my service animal. "Are you even
allowed to have that in heah?" I pulled out the letter from my
physiatrist, "Yes. She is my service animal."
"I never knew iguanas could be service animals. Ya learn
       somethin' new every day."
"Pippin is a bearded dragon." I hate it when people do not know
the proper names for animal species. Sure, I was a veterinary
student and knew more about animals than most people, but surely
one should know that a bearded dragon looks nothing like an
       iguana and vice versa.
"He's kinda cute for a lizard." I could tell by her expression
that she did not really mean it. She probably really was
thinking about how disgusting Pippin was and wondering how and
why anyone would keep something like her for a pet.
"She," I corrected. "Pippin is a female."
"If ya say so." By now, her deep southern accent was beginning
       to get on my nerves.
"Want to pet her?" I knew she probably would be too much of a
wimp to even consider touching Pippin, but I've learned that
most people who think reptiles are disgusting spawns of Satan
just can't resist the urge to touch Pippin. "She's very sweet,
friendly and has never once tried to bite me."
She sighed and took a deep breath, "What's feel like? Is she
       slimy?"
"Does she look slimy?" I thought. "No, she isn't. But she's
       really soft under her chin."
She took an even deeper breath and she extended her index finger
and rubbed Pippin's "beard." "Intrestin'. What's she eat?"
I really hate it when people ask this question because the list
of all the foods bearded dragons are allowed to have is actually
quite long. "Crickets, fruit, vegetables...and tour guides."
Thankfully she must have had a sense of humor, she stroked
Pippin under the chin, "I think I'm a little too big for ya
there, darlin'." She turned to me, "I guess I better get back to
work. Ya can't expect to make a livin' from pettin' lizards all
day; even though I would like to more than repeating mah-self to
tourists all the time." She rubbed Pippin's chin again, "Ya'll
have fun now." She turned to the group and lectured the rest of
the group about stalactites and stalagmites. I had learned about
those years ago in the fourth grade.
"Blah, blah blah!" I thought as I stroked Pippin's chin as we
       went deeper into the cave.
Pippin started to get fidgety. "Settle down now," I coaxed as I
grabbed her so she couldn't fall, but Pippin didn't want to
listen. She thrashed around so violently the little spikes on
her sides, which are usually soft to the touch, poked me. Her
little legs kicked so hard her claws cut into my arm and made me
bleed a little, even though I had trimmed them the previous day.
"I mean it. I don't want you to fall or get loose." Pippin was
determined to get away from me, so she did something she has
never done before, at least not on purpose.
       CHOMP!
Pippin had bitten me and, judging from the pressure, this was no
accident. From the shock and suddenness of the bite I accidently
dropped Pippin. I panicked, thinking she might be hurt or even
dead from landing on the hard limestone floor. I had been
wearing open - toed sandals that day, despite being advised not
to by the cave's website, and I felt something tapping my
toe...rather urgently. I looked down and it was Pippin. She
looked up at me and when I tried to pick her up she took off
       like a rocket.
"Oh no!" I thought as I saw her head off into a tunnel that was
labeled "Restricted Area". I chased after her anyway.
The tour guide finally saw what was going on and when she saw me
running into the restricted tunnel she yelled, "Hey! Ya'll can't
       go in there!"
"My lizard went in there!" I yelled back as I chased after
Pippin. She grabbed me and tried to prevent me from going in
there, "I'ma sorry, but even I ain't allowed to go in there!"
She patted my back, trying to comfort me.
I find it painful to be touched by anyone, let alone a total
stranger. My anxiety level was already hitting the ceiling from
Pippin running off, but being grabbed and touched only made it
       worse.
"My lizard could get hurt or die!" I thrashed around in the same
way Pippin had, but unfortunately, I have never had spikes on my
sides like she did, "Let me go! Now!"
"I'ma sorry, Darlin'. But I can't let ya in there. Maybe ya'll
       can get a new lizard."
My feelings of panic had now turned into a blind rage. Inspired
by Pippin's previous actions, I sank my teeth into the tour
guide's arm as hard as I could.
Her scream was so loud you could hear it echo all around the
cave which woke several bats from their nocturnal slumber. They
screeched and about twenty of them made a mad dash for the mouth
of the cave like a well...bat...out of Hell. I heard a teenage
girl scream, but most of the people were quite calm about them.
"I'mma sue ya'll for assault!" the tour guide snapped, clutching
her bleeding arm as I made a bee line for the tunnel I saw
Pippin disappear into. I didn't care what dangers may lurk ahead
or if I had to face an assault charge. All I cared about was
       Pippin's safety.

But I didn't find it offensive at all. I didn't think you were
trying to be offensive. Thank you for apologising though.

I appricate your concern. I really do. It's rare to find people
who are willing to '"fess up" to their mistakes...even their
       actual ones.
What do you mean by "in store" and "canidates"?

I think notes and PMs are still private. I don't know if the
site itself was ever entirely private. If there are people you
want to talk to on the internet but don't want the rest of the
world to read your conversations, I think that's what FaceBook
is for. I don't have one but I know several people that do.
