Yeah but Hitchcock never made Blow Out/Dressed To Kill/Body
Double/Carrie, either. I've always felt that the highs of
Hitchcock never came anywhere close to the highs of De Palma. I
consider De Palma to be a more singular artist and that goes a
long way for me. Hitchcock was more down the middle. A great
formalist and true innovator, but I've always felt like there's
something missing on the inside.

I guess it's always felt to me like Hitchcock always seemed like
he was afraid of his own audience? Like he gave too much of a
fuck about what they thought? De Palma's movies are also much
less repressed. The sensuality of them is extremely disarming.
Hitchcock felt like he was always stabbing at you, but De Palma
had this way of tricking you into a false sense of comfort
before springing a nasty surprise on you.
