i pirate music from websites cuz i dont have any money to pay 4
it but <3 music!! all mi tunes r either illegally downloaded or
ripped from cds, but it dont matter as it was paid 4 @ sum point
by some1 so yh theres no problem wiv it really :)

The reasons driving piracy in music are so different from person
to person it's churlish to to make blanket statements about all
pirates.
That being said one thing that must be considered however is
that pirating music is a lot faster and pain free in most cases
than buying the same track legally.
If I were to buy a song from iTunes or some other online stores
the songs I end up with are burdened with unnecessary DRM
allowing the song on a limited number of devices and only a
certain number of downloads at once. Buying a physical copy of
music can take a long time if ordered online or significantly
more effort if bought in a brick and mortar store. When pirating
music the service is quick and pain-free, the user is not
saddled with DRM and you can have unlimited downloads at once.
All of this is on top of the fact that you're not paying
anything.
Can you really blame people for pirating when it's faster,
easier; and the product you get is often better quality than
when you buy legally?

To be passionate about music you have to be respectful to the
artists which you choose to listen to. Piracy is disrespectful.
The majority of those who steal music would not go out and steal
a car as it is outside of societal norms, but stealing music
isn't? It's against the law, it is still ripping people off and
how would YOU feel if you did a piece of work to then not be
paid? How would you feel if you were exploited, leading millions
of people to do the same?
An average album costs £7.99. If this album is uploaded to a
website where others can download it, every person who downloads
it is stealing £7.99. 'AM' by Arctic Monkeys has been downloaded
on one website 3856 times.
So, £7.99 x 3856 = £30,809.44!
That means nearly £31,000 worth of music was stolen from the
hard working artists. Would you steal £7.99 in cash? I assume
the answer is no, so why would you steal £7.99 from someone in a
less materialistic form, such as a digital download?
Sadly, this issue of the modern day has arisen due to advances
in technology which, to be honest, only aimed to do good. I'm
not saying I would rid the internet (nor would I want to) but
back in the day, people would share music by lending their
friends LPs for a week or so. Why can't this be performed in the
same way today? It's not just fogey's that can do it!
Generations managed without any digital media at all, let alone
abuse it.
If artists continue to be ripped off, the music industry will go
to pot.
