Hi Mummies,
My name is Amina Mohamoud and my first experience of
'mummy-shaming' was at the park. The park? I know right. What
could I have done to anger such a person, that would want to
physically attack me? Breastfeeding. I was breastfeeding my baby
Asiyah. What horrified me was not that I was being denied to
naturally feed my child, what shocked me was that the person
shouting was a mother herself.
Over the years I have had countless encounters with individuals
who would shame me for feeding my child at both a mental and
physical aspect. Children's Literature has always included
parents who hide the real world from their children. I am sorry,
but the real world is much more than chocolate factories or big
spider webs. While these pieces of literature have deeper
meanings and discuss many adult fears. It is vital that we teach
our children aspects of gender, class and race in a more clear
and efficient way.
The purpose of this forum is to create a safe environment for
mummies for the future generation. By rejecting and subverting
traditional conceptions of motherhood, we raise more self-aware
individuals. Feel free to join this family, give testimonies;
let us connect. Also, you are welcomed to check out my profile
at the top. :) :P
