       MT01 engine "stutters" sometimes
       By: KoosMT01 Date: April 24, 2021, 12:36 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hi all,
Iam a Dutchman living in Brazil since 2 years now. I recently
bought a 2007 MT01 here in Brazil with 10.000 km on it.
This bike is really rare here, only about 85 are sold here in
Brazil. So it's difficult to find knowledge about this bike here
       too..
Now i have a problem with the bike. Sometimes it runs great for
a long time, but sometimes it starts to "stutter" real bad. When
this happens it also wants to turn off at traffic lights, and
its difficult to turn back on.
But then the next day it sometimes will run great again.
Actually every time i took te bike to my mechanic it runned
great again so for him its difficult to find the problem.
He allready did all the maintainence according the service
manual (10.000 km), including cleaning of the injection. After
this it runned great voor about 175 km but then the problem
       showed up again.
Does anyone here recognises this problem, or have any idea where
we can search for the problem this bike has?

Hi, firstly, at 10000km it hasnt even reached 1st service
(20000). But its been around a while. I wonder if it has had the
tps replaced under warranty as thats what it sounds like.
DONT let anyone go changing the idle screw settings. Contact a
yamaha dealer who can look it up for you maybe.
The tps can be checked with a multimeter but it is a little
fiddly to get to. Its on the exhaust side behind the engine
       cover.
Not an expensive item. Dont go fiddling with everything else!
See what others here say but I would reckon thats your first
       thing to check.

Id probabaly go with TPS as first port of call too..
There was a recall from Yamaha for these. You should also be
able to check with Yamaha using the frame/VIN cross referenced
with their data base ( ie- they will look it up )
They do still go bad, even the new ones. However, I would
anticipate that it take use to cause wear, to produce the brass
dust that starts to build up and cause contact and signal
breakdown ( often exacerbated by heat) which leads to the
problem seemingly fixed after a reset and/or when the bike is
       cold.
I would agree with everything Graeme has said vis a vis
       fiddling with the TB set-up.
Good luck with it. If you wrench on bikes at all, you'll not
find the work too difficult. It needs set-up but this possible
using the bikes OBD Diag interface. And some disasembly to get
       access is all...
Just to add - there is a Dutch forum that is quite active. Im
sure you can find alot of detail available in your mother
tongue, if that appeals to you...!?

       Thanks a lot for helping!
Both the Dutch and the Brazilian service manual have services
listed on 1k, 10k, 20k etc. (every 10k). But for this case that
doesnt really mather i think. What i know is that the bike has
       been stored for several years.
I passed your sugestion about the TPS sensor on to my mechanic,
and also told him to leave the ajustments of the injection
       untouched.
In case they need to replace this sensor, is this an universel
part, or has each brand/model a specific sensor?

       You too thanks for helping.
Good to read that you confirm the things segusted by Graeme.
I tried to register on the Dutch forum earlyer, but no respond
so far.. Seems a little dead there unfortunatily. Also there's a
German forum Donnermeister but English is easyer to read then
       German for me.

There is an English speaking sub-forum on Donnermeister too...
Since FaceBook grew to be a monster, forums have suffered a
quiet and silent death, and largely migrated to that
       platform.....
       Progress huh !>/?

Looks like my problem is solved!
The mechanic has checked the TPS but that one seemed to be
       allright.
Even though the (iridium) spark plugs looked oke, we decided to
       replace them.
Yesterday i made a trip of 450 km, and the bike runs great!
No idea why thos sparkplugs were bad allready. I assume new in
2007 they didnt use iridum yet, so that was probably the 2nd set
       already.
Anyway iam happy that the bike runs great now after this simple
       fix.
The people i ride with here have supersport bikes, they like to
go a little faster on the highway.
Above 120 km/h a little more wind protection would be more
       comfortable.
Are there windscreens that make a lot of difference on the MT01?
In the twisties its bye bye to the supersports ;D

Thats fantastic, really good to hear. Dont bother with iridium,
       no benefit at all.
Secdem screens, works well at cutting that high speed blast,
look good too. Go the shorter option.
       Tested at Phillip Island!
