Well last night was a roller coaster of disappointment. I
arrived at KM to see the lesson plan was all ground work and
head locks, I love ground work. It means I can use my full
strength and it's just plain fun. Then I was partnered up with
what is effectively a little girl. She's 18 and at absolute
most 8 stone. Obviously it was easy for me to pin her and she
didn't have a hope in hell of pinning me, I could literally
stand up while she had her full weight on me. Worst thing, she
wasn't even hot, for shame.

Thats annoying. was that for the full lesson? we change partners
every 3-5 minutes so by end of the class we've battled
everyone.. big, small, strong, advanced, beginner etc

Unfortunately yes. It's a bit hit miss or maybe if we switch
partners, seems to be down to instructor preference. I've been
to evens where every drill is with a new partner.

Maybe you should have just pummelled her to make a point... and
you know, in this new age you can't show her any leniency cos
she's a girl you presumptuous sexist pig

Joking aside I do feel like going easy on people does rob them
of a training experience. If I let her get away with things
does that give her a false sense of security? In a real world
situation some who means harm won't "let up" because the other
person is much smaller and weaker, in fact in some scenarios
that's exactly why the victim has been chosen. Now I always make
a point of asking how much effort they want me to give and
letting them know if I held back. The thing is most male on
male violence is about dominance so the point of a fight is
literally to fight and establish a victor. In the case of male
on female the altercation is usually much more serious as the
goals are more likely to be abduction, rape or murder. Given
that as a responsible training partner I absolutely should go as
hard as possible with no let up. I just bloody can't though,
it's one of my "glitches", I find if very difficult to fight a
little girl because well, you don't hit girls, especially one
much smaller and weaker and not that much older than my
daughter.
Ok that's too serious, can we talk about winkles again?

thing is tho, the instructor should never have paired you up. if
you did go full tilt on her, she could get seriously injured,
yes its a learning experience for her but it could get serious
if you were of a different disposition. i heard a story of a
jiujitsu class where a newbie was put to roll with a purple belt
who went and snapped his arm.

I think I that's half the reason we were paired up, I scale
everything back when I'm with a rookie or someone much weaker.
Basically they know I won't try to hurt my partner (which seems
ironic given the context). Howeve, pair me up with someone big
and stronger, then it's like idiot vs idiot.
