You're right, it's definitely a recovery issue, sleep has been
the big issue this week but I could stand to eat more. I usual
plan deload by ear (as in I don't plan them), when I'm feeling
run down and drained it's time to back off and concentrate on
sleep. With me I find it's largely a mental issue rather than a
physical one, I need that break to make me hungry to train.
So the plan for next week is to sleep rather than train. The
exception will be bench day where I intend to do my regular
planned session bu this will be the only training session (apart
       from KM) of the week.

Solid work mate and a week off from lifting will do you good.
Any niggles like a bad shoulder, or a twingey quad or a bicep
strain will have time to heal. ;)
As for the18 year old id ask to be paired with a prettier one
during grappling sessions. Seriously though maybe it’s like a
forced deload by your instructor perhaps he could see you
getting burnt out? Also perhaps a little confidence builder for
the girl. Truth of the matter is it’s much more serious for
girls like you say but I like to think a trained female would
have at least a fighting chance to fend off an untrained make
       attacker.

Cheers dude, I do have a bit of a niggle in my elbow so leaving
it be for a while should do it good. Only a single session
planned for the whole week which means I should get an extra 6-7
hours sleep over the course of the week.
She's had a bit of a break studying for and then taking her
exams. There are a lot f new people but she knows me so I think
it was probably about familiarity and easing her back in. I'm
known to work at the level my partner wants to so in all honesty
I was probably the best choice for her.

Considering I'm a short arse I do have a heavy bone structure.
I'm naturally broad at the shoulder and I have wide (child
bearing) hips. My wrists are just over 8" around so I'm
basically built to lift heavy things. Which make sense since at
age 15 and with no prior training (unless you count push ups) I
could bench 100kg and thus a love of all things strength was
       born.

Oooooh, how in a bad way?

The best example would be following on from the earlier comment
(which will make sense in a mo). When I was 11 the PE teachers
asked me to be on the school rugby teams because despite being
small I was quick and powerful, easily toppling boys twice my
size. I had no interest and said no. therefore as punishment I
spent the few years in the girls PE class as I "wasn't good
enough to be with the boys" (talk about sexist). So I rejoined
the boys at age 15 as the girls had trampolining and the boys
did weights. In my very first weights lesson the PE teacher
still had a grudge and so used me to demo the bench press, he
loaded up 100kg and I think he intended to crush me. or at
least "make me pay" for refusing the team. Of course when I did
it he was shocked. That's when he called me a freak but meant
       it as an insult.
