       LG TV problem. (Black screen)
By: Dylanpumped Date: March 8, 2020, 12:49 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hi all,
I was watching my LG TV (42LN578V) earlier and the screen
suddenly went black. The audio is fine. There was no noise to
suggest something has blown, ie a 'popping' noise. I've tried
unplugging the TV for 10 minutes and powering it back on. The
red light below the LG logo on the bottom of the set flashes 3
times and the TV powers on (since I hear audio) but the screen
remains black. I've tried changing the HDMI cable but that
hasn't helped. I can change channels and hear audio but see only
a totally black screen. The TV is coming on 5 years old and I've
       had no prior issues.
       Any advice greatly appreciated.
       Thanks in advance.

Might be worth googling a factory reset. I saved myself a fair
bit when I found one for my panny a few years back. Just meant
powering off and on with a button combo

Thanks, mate, I'll try, but may be problematic since the screen
is blank so I can't access the menu functions etc

sounds like the backlight has gone or the supply to the
backlight ( served my time as a TV engineer) so thats where id
put my money , still follow a lot of TV repair stuff and still
fix my own occasionally if i've got the test equipment and
       tools.

       bit more on diagnosis

Thats what I would try personally , but could be a massive
ballache and a waste of time

Mine didn't mean accessing a menu. A bit like you can clear
smart phones etc. It was a case of holding the power button
while also holding down the + button on volume and channel for
example (can't remember exactly) but it reset my TV and fixed
the problem, I can't even remember what that was now either tho.

       Cheers guys.
I'll look up means of resetting it.
Though I suspect doc is probably right.
Just checked the price of the never version of the same TV in
       Argos and it's £250...

You can get some pretty decent TVs for very little money
nowadays. Unless you are a technonerd who can really appreciate
the difference and has a need for £1000s worth of picture and
colour wizardry most us wouldn't notice or care about the
difference. A quick google and you can check whether (even on
big brands) whether you are getting a generic or manufacturers
panel for a little piece of mind on value for money

99% of my viewing time is through a laptop screen , wouldn't pay
any extra for a super TV , especially since all the content is
       over compressed crap.

My parents had a 44 inch UHD Samsung they've not used for over a
year, so I managed to nab that.
Incidentally, I also found a local TV repair shop and the guy
quoted me around £30 to £50 to repair, so not bad really.

       considering the labour , that's a bargain ! I would get it
fixed , even if its a spare TV.
