All this new fangled technology.. it’s just not cricket!
I really detest the video refs. In the old days when the games
were invented(football, rugby, cricket etc).. you learnt that
refs decision is final, you respected it and the ref. If it was
a bad call, you lived with it. Now anyone can challenge a ref.
I liken it to the failing of society. Kids don’t respect
coppers, teachers, and they grow up to not respect a gentleman’s
sport so they invent ways to get round it with technology when
they get older!
Ba
Its essential in cricket. To many decisions would be wrong. If
someone is runout it must go upstairs if its close. Why not get
it right? Countless things really. I like VAR ect for crucial
decisions in football and goal line tech. Better to have the
correct decision for certain situations.
It really is not essential. The point is it doesn’t matter if
it’s ‘right’. What matters is the ref/umpire decides if it’s
right or not, regardless if it is and sportsman should respect
the refs decision. Schools don’t have VAR, clubs don’t. Top
level never had VAR until a few years ago. If you’re saying VAR
is essential, then every single game/record/score ever recorded
in the history books should be deleted as they don’t count as a
computer was not used to verify the correct outcome was
achieved.

It wouldn't be fair on the umpire. They might be clueless like
everyone else if there is a tight run out. We can't change the
past but help is here now and it dosnt take long for say goal
line tech or VAR.to correct something. We still respect the refs
but all recognize we all need help sometimes.
Betting wise I don't think it matters it would all balance out.
What about a horse piped at the linel ?we all need to know where
we stand.
The point made by DV sums it up for me as well, the money and
it's different at the elite level versus schools and so on.

At the top level it really does matter. If a grand slam is won,
a team goes down in the EPL, a horse at the winning post wins by
a nose. With the money involved probably everyone involved from
mangers to players want it right.

unbelievable end to the cricket world cup and it finished with a
super over. ben stokes's dive and the ball hitting his bat and
it going a four was bizarre. the run out at the end, such drama
and a winning bet. Well done England.
