       I listened to a recorded version of this remarkable
       autobiography, read by the author herself. It came out before
       the COVID-19 pandemic and before Donald Trump's second term.
       It is by no means self-congratulatory or even self-justifying.
       Michelle Obama talks about her childhood, her brother Craig (a
       basketball star), her school experiences, her family and
       friends.
       Her father had MS and died in his mid-50s. She doesn't say much
       about him or the MS but what she does say is poignant and sad.
       I would recommend this book to anyone who is craving a breath of
       fresh air. She makes it abundantly clear that she dislikes
       politics and has no interest in pursuing a political career
       herself, and life as the First Lady was clearly a very demanding
       challenge for her.
       One has to wonder if entirely too many demands are put on the
       First Lady--and whether she could have successfully declined to
       attend or take part in many of the functions.  The family seems
       to have had a gruelling schedule during their eight years in the
       White House.
       But they survived it, and the people in this country should be
       grateful for their willingness to serve.
