       About links here
By: agate Date: July 28, 2025, 1:28 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Links are often present in the posts here. Up till recently, if
a link was more than line long, it was sent to a link-shortening
Website (Bitly, tinyurl) where it could be shortened, with
"Bitly" or "tinyurl" turning up in the URL a user would click
       on.
However, Bitly switched to being pay-only, and tinyurl is
difficult to use. Also, URL-shortening Websites may have some
       other problems.
In recent days the posts that include a long URL in a link have
been done with another system, one that was used here for many
years. Unfortunately, the font being used is smaller than it
should be. This issue is being worked on behind the scenes.
Those links are working so far as I know. Over time I've been
reviewing old threads and discarding any posts that have dead
links. Fortunately not many dead links have turned up so far.

I'd like to think that this place has been doing something right
even if there aren't many followers.
For some time now URLs have been shortened using another way
that is safer all around. Bitly and tinyurl are no longer part
       of the scene here.
URLs longer than one or two lines will be shortened, for
       readability.
