It is fairly clear that Senator McConnell had polio as a child
and coped with a deficit from it throughout his life. As someone
who remembers the time before there was a polio vaccine, this
was a very serious disease. Everyone knew of children who were
spending their lives in an iron lung. Some died. Many would
suffer from post-polio syndrome for the rest of their days.
I once knew a woman lawyer who was very capable--but she was in
a wheelchair because she had post-polio syndrome. This is real,
and it has been real for Senator McConnell.
Though I've only rarely agreed with him, Donald Trump is--once
again--not fighting fair. His attack was vicious and cruel.
