Daniel Levitin, A FIELD GUIDE TO LIES: CRITICAL THINKING IN THE
INFORMATION AGE

I've been reading (listening to) this useful book, which isn't
too full of equations to be annoying. It makes statistics more
understandable and provides valuable suggestions on what
expertise to trust and what to be on the alert for when on the
Internet looking for information.
The author is a neuroscientist and a musician.

Snow and a cold snap mean a more stressful time than usual for
me, and so today's post will be merely a quotation from A FIELD
GUIDE TO LIES:
Lying weasels who want to separate us from our money or
get us to vote against our own best interests will try to snow
us with pseudo-facts, confuse us with numbers that have no
basis, or just distract us with information that, upon closer
examination, is not actually relevant.
