       This article begins by defining ECAs (embodied conversational
       agents) as "[font=Helvetica]advanced human-like interfaces that
       engage users in natural face-to-face conversations and
       interactions."  Perhaps they are like Siri? One source described
       them as "cartoon-like characters." Another source indicates that
       these might be robots. The therapist or health expert you
       consult next might turn out to be an embodied conversational
       agent, with or without your awareness.[/font]
