Are doctors asking the right questions?

I can't think of a neuro or a PCP who has ever asked me about
falls, and yet I've had so many falls over the years that I've
lost count of their number.
Falls seem to be a major part of the MS experience for many
people. Why in the world don't doctors--particularly
neurologists--ask about them?
As in, "Have you fallen at all in the last year/6 months/3
months?"
Or, "About how many falls would you say you've had since you
developed MS symptoms?"
This would give the doctor an idea of how a patient has been
doing, over time. It's what the doctor isn't getting when the
patient reports in for a periodic checkup. The doctor does some
reflex tests and maybe some other tests, but these will probably
all indicate how you're doing just then, at that moment. Maybe
you're having a good day, maybe it's a very bad day. It may not
be a typical day at all.
What the doctor also needs to know is how MS has been treating
you over many days, even many years.
Finding out more about each patient's history of falling is one
place to start.
