Different pirate factions can't communicate
By: BIG Ben Date: August 31, 2014, 8:37 am

I just got done watching a YouTube video of the AA live-stream
"Justice for All" where they take us through the justice system.
Right near the end of the video it's stated that pirates can't
talk to fellow pirates from the opposite faction.
If you want to skip the bulk of the video the pirate references
begin at about the 26:30 min mark.
Here is the video:

I though it was important to share this info ASAP as it will
have a severe impact on our guild in the game.

I will definitely pass this along and look into it further, but
the one thing that I think needs to be explained is how exactly
Pirate Guilds will work. If we are able to have members from all
factions, who then are able to talk in guild chat, then we can
work around this issue.
Either way, MoD-RO are poised to make a guild in all 3 factions,
2 of which being simple "Recruit and Funnel" guilds, focused on
getting members support starting the game and working their way
to the main, pirate guild.
And lastly, there is also that little teas of possible "custom
factions" floating around (the idea that guilds with a large
enough member base and influence and gold can create their own,
artificial faction) meaning that any previous limitations would
be made null. I think that we need to flood the Open Beta and
see how far we can push the member limit as well as asking
anyone we can for information on this

In a post from the AA forums, there was a link to a pirate guide
of sorts.
It doesn't answer this particular issue directly, but it does
have a lot of useful tips and tricks etc.

Yes, we definately need to find out if we can mix the pirate
guild. We are aware that there is a language difference between
the two factions and that to be able to communicate between the
two, language needs to be learnt. During the open beta we
should find out where and how to learn the languages. You are
on the forums Benn? Are devs answering questions? Has anyone
asked "Can a pirate guild be made up of mixed races from both
continents?"
I would hate to think that players would be restricted to one
side or the other in order be able to join the ultimate pirate
guild and yes, our plan of world domination could come into
effect and if we do become an 'MoD nation' then surely that
would include all races......
I forgot to say muahaha

From what I can tell, there is nothing to prevent members of any
race from joining the same guild once they have become a pirate.
And I would assume that if that is possible, that they would all
be able to communicate together (especially through guild chat
as William suggested).
I just haven't seen anywhere that it has been stated clearly in
black and white.
I mean, none of the existing pirate guilds seem to have
expressed any difficulties with the situation, so I think it's
all going to be a non-issue.
I'm just wanting to be sure for my own peace of mind.

Learning new languages
A player is able to learn the opposing continents dialect in
game by studying with a language tutor. There are two public
language tutors (one male and one female with no evident
difference in usage) on each continent and from what I can tell,
they are available from 10AM to 7PM in game time. The language
tutor for Nuia Dialect can be found in Mahadevi City of Towers
library and the Harani Dialect tutor can be found in Marianople
University. Each time that you want to study, it requires 1x The
Art of Language book and 100 labor (can someone confirm that it
is 100? It could be 50?). After studying with this tutor, you
will gain 50 proficiency (or 0.5% of the total) and you receive
a "headache" debuff that last for 4 hours and prevents you from
studying again.
Additionally, there is a tutor that you can craft and place in
your house. You can find these crafts in the Folio by searching
for cushion and there is no difference between the male and
female version (that I've heard of at least). This tutor gives
100 proficiency (or 1%) for each book used and also gives a
different debuff meaning that you can use both tutors every four
hours for 150 proficiency if you have the money and the labor to
do so. This cushion is very expensive to craft (300 yata fur, 3
downy yata fur, 30k alchemy potion, 20 yarn) but I personally
think in the long run it will pay off since each book isn't
cheap either and requires 25 lumber 25 wedges 5 ink and 5
leather to craft.
In the end, learning a new language in Archeage can be a fun
activity to spend some extra currency on if you desire. The
truth is that it takes a long time to become proficient in a new
language and the benefits are what you make of it.

Is this game up and running as open Beta now then?
I'm swamped with work just now, so not got time to log into
POBS, which I still love, but if you've all moved over here
already I will check it out when time allows.

We are still in both Carl. Yes, ArcheAge is open beta for this
weekend and game will be released on the 16th Sept. Come join
the shinanigans, be great to see you. We are all still low
levels just seeing what is possible in the game, we spend most
of our time at sea hehe. Be great to see you.

Great info there Meph, very helpful!
I think this could be a nice side project once all the important
things are completed.
