It's a point that many gamers can argue about until they are
blue in the face, but this generation, Sony's PlayStation 3
started out of the gates with a limp. That limp was likely the
result of an exorbitant price point when the console launched at
$599. The company which chose to include some pretty cost
intensive features in their new machine had little other option
than to price the do-everything machine where it did. Having
just made note of the PlayStation division's recent success in
their latest corporate financials, it appears that the
PlayStation 3 is finally starting to bring in revenue for the
       electronics maker.
This week, Sony also confirmed that they are indeed working on
the PlayStation 4. While no specifics around the device have
been disclosed at this time, the company did say that the next
generation hardware will be handled differently this time
around. Sony's Cheif Financial Officer Masaru Kato, said "It is
no longer thinkable to have a huge initial financial investment
like that of the PS3." No clarification was made on the
statement, and it can only be taken to mean that Sony won't have
the same types of costs associated with their next console.
Here's to hoping that their next console isn't $600 at launch,
irrespective if they shave some of the production costs.
