Matt and Devlin adopt a ghost boy
By: Minyaagar Date: February 19, 2026, 7:53 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Matt was gathering his equipment to toss into his own truck. He
had devlin drop him off given he had some to haul and didn’t
want to mess up the guys nice car. Once he got the back of his
truck fixed up he got in. He got his phone to text devlin he’d
be on his way over so the man could enjoy the ride. He just told
him to dress comfortably given the asylum was dusty from the
       wear.
He sat his camera up for his own intro for the videos he did for
ghost sightings. “Hey! It’s ghostbuster Matt frost reporting!”
He said giving his normal enthusiasm.”sorry the video is late-
but today we plan to go on a ghost hunt of the asylum, and see
if there is truth to the stories of children long gone playing
inside.. to crazed murderers.. .” He said as he continued to
       record on his ride over.
He stopped in front of devlin’s place to shut off the camera. He
only planned on recording hauntings and a few things here and
there. The man loved the supernatural and his videos were
gaining him an income- just a little more then he didn’t have to
work for the punk jewelry shop. The man helped pierce whatever
needed to be done- but he always felt he could do more.
He waited to look over at where devlin stayed. Hard to believe
for him that he landed such a guy.
       -----
Devlin came out of his house a few moments after Matt had pulled
up, dressed in well work jeans, scuffed Nikes and a form fitting
army green t-shirt. He tossed a bag in the back of the truck and
       slide into the passenger seat.
"You excited? Ready to delve more into the paranormal?" He asked
and handed over an old lodestone on a chain. "This could
increase your chances of finding one and talking to it. Plus it
has an added protection charm on it as well. Just trying to be
safe. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you,"
       -----
Matt chuckled.”always.” He said.”I may record some things for my
video of haunted places- kinda my bread and butter at the
moment.” He joked. He took the lodestone.”really!! Awesome..”
he said before they took off.
It wasn’t long till the duo arrived to the place. Matt began to
grab some equipment and looked up at the big building.”waited
all month.. gonna enjoy this.” He said and grinned at devlin.
Things started out well, him recording a few things talking a
little, and then came time to set up some cameras- that he
didn’t have to record for.”sorry for all the boring stuff..
maybe we might see some paranormal activity.. people eat that
stuff up!” He said with a smile.
       ----
"oh yeah? Let me know if I can give ye a hand with anything,"
Devlin said with a grin. While he'd never gone out searching for
the paranormal, there had been a few times he'd encountered
       ghosts or spirits in Ireland.
"One day ye will have to come to Ireland to meet the ghosts
there. I've encountered a few at the old castles," he suggested.
Devlin helped carry some of Matt's bags, along with the one he'd
brought of snacks and drinks. Since it was likely they'd be
there for awhile, he'd thought ahead
"Oh I bet ye will," Dev said with chuckle and followed the man
       inside.
Devlin could feel something in the old place, though the spirit
or ghost kept out of sight during the first few hours. "Hey, I'm
enjoying our time together, even if we don't see anything, I'm
glad I came with ye." Devlin reassured him, glancing around the
big empty room they'd picked to set cameras up in.
"Maybe we should set one up in the kitchen space, and the old
library. Spots that were active in real life, are often spots
ghosts or spirits will return to, or so I've heard,"
       -----
Matt looked around the area satisfied with their set up before
hearing devlin.”not a bad idea… let’s head for the kitchen first
then the library.” He said as he hauled a small bag. “Think we
can set up a hub in the library all at the same time too.” He
said as he walked with him. They got to the kitchen.. the rusty
smell and dust about showed just how long it had been since
       anyone stepped foot inside.
Matt eyed the floors a little.”watch your step.. floors look a
bit brittle-might end up with a foot through the floor.” He said
       as he walked carefully.
It wasn’t much longer till they were in the library. Matt was
fiddling with a few things trying to make sure the cameras were
working properly, only going out to fix some angles to come
back.”alright.. most we gotta do is sit back and see if we get
some activity.” He said and turned around for a cooler he had
brought in.”wanna beer?” He asked as he grabbed a drink.
       -----
       👻👻👻
It was so hard being back here. The memories of what happened in
this old abandoned asylum only adding to the long history of
torment and torture these grounds were stained with. Maverick
couldn't bring himself his own barrial site. So instead, he went
       were it all happened.
His long forgotten murder in a library no one seemed to know
about. The spector had been there for days now, remembering what
happened. The dark stain on the floor telling his story.
He was so lost in himself that when unexpected ghost hunters
arrived, he was barely able to vanish before he was spotted. It
wasn't long before the teen realized that these two men were not
going anywhere. He had one of two options, stay quiet and still
and risk being there for *days* or mess with these 'occult
enthusiasts'. First thing first was the camera. That wasn't all
that hard considering Rick didn't have much control over frying
electronics. Everything in the room would go dead. Lights,
phones, cameras. It was like an emp went off frying everything
in not only the room, but the house. The humans would be lucky
if their car agreed to start back up. Once everything was out,
Rick started to knock the books off the shelves.
       ----
Matt was in the middle of drinking when his equipment began to
fry. “Shit!” He cursed. He looked at his stuff at first.”what
the hell!?!” He wheeled to see books being knocked off.”ah for
fucks sake! I could of recorded that.” He said and seemed
       unbothered by the activity.
In fact, the man went closer to the book case and felt a cold
spot.”this is the real deal…” he said and smiled big. He was a
mix of excitement and disappointment. Excited cause he finally
found a true haunted place. But bummed out due to his equipment
being fried to even record what was going on.
       -----
Devlin nodded following after Matt, his eyes taking in their
surroundings carefully. "Good idea," he agreed and stepped
around and over spots on the floor that looked like problem
spots. "It's been a very long time since anyone has been in
here," he murmured taking in the layers of undisturbed dust
       everywhere.
After this excursion they'd more than likely need a very long
       shower.
He watched Matt set up his equipment, handing the man tools and
pieces he needed when asked. "Sure, I'll take one," Dev replied,
opening the bottle he was handed.
His eyes kept going to the dark stain on the floor and wondering
       about the story behind it.
Right before the equipment starting frying, and hissing steam,
Devlin's third eye tattoo flower and went cold in warning. "This
ghost doesn't wish to be recorded," Dev said in a low voice,
glancing around as another tattoo activated to let him see the
       ghost causing all the mayhem.
He moved after Matt, feeling the same coldness and found himself
staring straight into the ghost's face. He reached to take
Matt's hand and chanted a charm under his breath; one that would
enable Matt to.see the young ghosts face as well.
"You want us to leave, I get that. Maybe you'd feel up to
talking to us somewhere else in the building?"
Devlin had the strongest impression that the young ghost had met
       his death in the library.
       ----
       👻👻👻
Maverick's poltergeist like tantrum haulted when he realized
that the ghost hunter could see him and was looking into his
eyes. The ghost backed away quickly. "You can see me?" He asked
in shock. He didn't know how to process the man's reaction until
the realization struck him that the man wasn't human and with
the glow of the tattoos, he had a feeling he was using magic.
His fear amplified from that realization.
"You... want to talk? Im... not very good at... talking...." the
shy ghost said softly. His rage of the invasion of place of
death during his mental turbulence was masked under his fear of
       the people.
       -----
Matt have a soft breath out when the kid’s face came up. His
eyes went wide almost immediately- he heard of this kid and how
he was found. He kept quiet about it and said.”Sorry for
disrupting your peace.. normally I just record a few things like
book flinging and slamming doors.. “ he told maverick.”if you
want.. maybe we can talk a little.. “ he said to the
ghost.”probably gets a little lonely right?” He asked.
       ---
Devlin stepped back a few feet, not wanting to overwhelm the
young ghost any more than he already was.
"Yes, we can see you. My tattoo lets me see ghosts and spirits.
It won't cause ye any harm," he reassured the teen ghost after
Matt had spoken. "I don't use magic that could harm ye. We just
came to see if we could find a ghost. My...mate has always
wanted to meet one. " he added and moved back a bit more.
"Is there anything you'd want to talk about? It can be anything
really. Music ye like, books, even movies,"
       ----
Maverick's eyes became a glare towards the human when he
mentioned *peace*. His form began the switch back and forth
from his normal self to the form that showed his death. His neck
was covered in bruises, and a thin line appeared on his neck
pouring blood. "***Peace?***" He half yelled. "How am I expected
to be at peace when my murder walks free?" He nearly growled.
The instability settled a little at the thought of how lonely be
was, mixed with the slight comfort that the man's magic might
       not hurt him.
Maverick:s emotions were so overwhelming that he just broke down
crying, his normal form being the one to win out as he settled
       on the floor and sobbed.
       ----
Matt watched as the boy showed how he died. His eyes went wide.
He shrunk a little, at the sight. But despite it.. seeing how
mavrick switched back to the normal form, and crying tugged at
his heart.”I’m so sorry..” he said gently. How he wished he
could gather the spirit and just give him a proper hug. Seeing
the form of the death of this boy…made him rethink his life a
bit more. He banked off the supernatural but- seeing this just
made him want to help more.
       -----
Devlin couldn't help but feel deep sympathy for the young ghost.
Seeing the wounds appear on the ghosts corporeal body made him
want to hunt down the murderer himself. No one should have to go
       through that much pain.
Devlin dropped Matt's hand and moved to wrap his arms around the
young ghost. While his magic wouldn't harm the other, it did
make it possible to hold him. To Matt it would look like he was
       holding someone invisible.
"We'll help you find the bastard that did this to ye, it may
       take some time though,"
Dev hugged the ghost a bit tightly, knowing that after so long,
the boy might need more physical contact. "Just tell me when to
       stop,"
       -----
Maverick was shocked at the arms wrapped around him, having not
felt touch like this since he was still alive. He didn't give it
all that much thought as he practically clung to Devlin and
cried into his shirt, slowly becoming visible as he let those
emotions out. He hadn't felt this cared for in a very long time.
       ----
Matt blinked gently, seeing the boy coming visible, and how he
was. Made him ever the more determined to help.”dev.. we will
find that culprit.. but is there anyway we can bring him with
us? I mean I have heard they only haunt in areas which they are
bound - but is that true?” He asked.”if not then maybe we can
take him with us. So he’s not alone.”
       ----
Dev held the sobbing ghost boy, wishing he'd have been there to
help him before he'd died so tragically. He patted the ghost's
back gently and glanced up at Matt's question.
"Often times if the ghost has a personal item somewhere, it will
bind them to the place until their death or murder is solved.
Let's look around and see if we can find it. If they're not bond
to the spot, they can travel all over. My many great great
grandfather still haunts the family castle cause he lost his
wedding ring in the moat. I do think if we did find it, he'd
still choose to stay and keep haunting us," Dev added. "Even a
ghost at peace, won't always just stop hanging around."
"Hey there Laddie, I'm Devlin and this is my mate, Matt. If we
find what's keeping ye here, would you want to come with us? Was
there anything you remember losing? Maybe something you wore a
lot? Like a ring or bracelet?"
       ----
The sobs slowly quieted as Maverick calmed down, taking comfort
in the protective arms around him and the soothing circles
rubbed on his back. He didn't entirely register what the two men
were talking about until the adult holding him spoke to him
directly, introducing the both of them to the ghostly teen
before asking a question he never expected. Would he go with
       them.
Being asked to remember caused Maverick's form to alternate
between his normal form and his death form as the memories
flooded him. Glimpses of what his soul would let him remember.
Rick looked down at his wrist, seeing the mark where his
favorite bracelet had sat. The bruse in the shape of a boot
       heel.
"My..... my bracelet... it... broke... during my death..." He
said vaguely as he mentally relived the trauma again. Trying to
remember where the blue beads had scattered. "I... I think... it
would have scattered under the book case maybe? I... don't know
if you would need the entire thing...." He said slowly, quietly,
as if speaking too loud would bring his murder back to hurt him
       again.
       -----
Matt listened quietly as he took in the different forms of the
boy. Whoever did that- he’d make sure he find and bring the man
to justice. He heard something about a book case.”I got it.” He
said , “might wanna move.” He told dev as he moved the book
case. He thanked the stars he never shirked his workouts he saw
some beads and gently picked up what he saw. He rubbed the dust
off one affirming it was blue in color.”I found some.. dev if we
need more probably should scour..if the general direction was
the book case, means some could of rolled around the potted
plant.” He said as he moved a small chair to see a few more.
       --++
The more he comforted the sobbing ghost boy, the more his
protective side flared up. He didn't flinch or pull away as the
ghost manifested his wounds again, and watched the boy closely.
He followed the other's gaze and his eyes flashed at the bruise
mark showing on the other's pale skin.
"The more of the beads the better," Devlin said softly and
reached up to brush the ghosts hair out of his face
He nodded at Matt, pulling the teen away from the bookcase and
settling in a safer spot. Watching his human lover easily move
the book case has his eyes gleaming in appreciation.
"Or...I could call them out," he said with a bit of a smirk.
Devlin took the ones Matt had found already and held them flat
in one hand, chanting an incantation under his breath. The beads
glowed for a moment, then went back to normal. The remaining
beads came rolling out from a corner of the room and another
bookcase and floated up and settled in his hand.
"I think I saw some wire in your supplies, I can string these up
and put a few charms and spells that will help the lad move
wherever wishes and have a solid body when he wishes. It may
take a bit of time though. " Devlin said and then shot a look at
       the boy.
"I'm going to need to know what to call ye, and I'd very much
like to offer you a room at my home for as long as you want it.
We'll all work together finding the arse that killed you. You
       deserve justice."
       ----
Maverick's form returned to normal as Devlin brushed hair out of
the ghostly teens face before carrying him to another place and
settling down again. Not once letting go of him. He watched in
surprise as Matt moved a bookcase just to find some of the beads
before a spell was cast to find all the missing beads.
The attention was back on Rick moment's later after talk of
spells to let him move around easier and even be solid again.
"My.... my name is Maverick Stone.... I... would like to go with
you..." Rick answered as he wrapped his arms around Devlin's
neck and hid his face in the man's chest.
       --++
Matt watched in wonder at devlin’s magic as the rest of the
beads came to the man. He heard devlin mention wire to go over
and dig in a pack to get it out and let the man hold maverick as
he fixed it himself to hand it to devlin.
Matt’s heart was snagged at how the boy was and decided he
wanted to help him.”names Matthew frost, but you can call me
Matt. Nice to meet you maverick.” He said as he went to get the
stuff that he could most likely fix together.
       -----
Devlin couldn't help but notice the look of wonder on Matt's
face when he used a simple spell. He'd have to let the man see
more in time. "Thanks," he told Matt when the other took the
beads to work with remaking the bracelet.
Devlin wasn't quite sure what he was feeling, having never
experienced feeling the fatherly protective love stirring
before. He patted Maverick's back gently making no objections to
the teens need to be close.
"Then I hope you will consider my house your new home. And...I
should be honest. Matt's more than just a friend, but we're
taking things slow. Just so you know you'll be seeing a lot of
       him too."
Devlin accepted the bracelet and held it in one hand, chanting
in a low voice in ancient Celtic words. The tattoos on his arms
began glowing as the magic was transferred into the bracelet.
When he'd finished he put it around one of Maverick's wrists.
"Well then, want some help salvaging your equipment Matt? Once
that's done, we should be able to head out, whenever you're
       ready to Maverick,"
While Devlin had always hoped to have his own family, he hadn't
thought he might end up as a father figure this soon. He would
do every in his power to help Maverick with whatever he needed
       or wanted to do.
       -----
“I don’t mind the help, let’s get this done and get Maverick to
the house.” He said as he worked at getting things together. It
felt like a long night and he never expected such a thing in his
life. Little did he know how things would spiral for him and
just how much more he would discover as he deepens his bond with
       Devlin.
       ---
Devlin nodded and gently let go of Maverick, but let the boy
stay close as he helped Matt get everything together. Once it
was all packed up into the truck, he had Maverick get in the
       middle of the front seat.
"So, I know our date didn't quite end like we'd planned," Dev
said softly, glancing over at Matt.
"I do plan on making it up to you though. You can still stay
over tonight if you want. I imagine, Maverick will have a lot of
       questions."
While Devlin didn't mind being the boys new guardian, he had the
feeling that Matt would like to be involved as well.
"Is there anything that you've missed being able to eat or do?"
devlin asked as their drive began.
