Eden watched quietly, how snows mother was and went quiet. She
felt a small longing to squish it down some. Khali nodded.”it is
best. Also we need to talk some I had some questions.” He looked
at Jalal and the king. “I feel it’s important to do so as it’s
clear both your children exhibit gifts.” Khali explained. “And I
know some is best left out of the ears of little ones.” He said
pointedly to Jalal who nodded in agreement.
Arnar seemed to agree and said.”I’ll make sure to pay attention
in case he tries to muscle it through- like some people I know.”
He said flatly looking at Katsu. He ushered the children to
their next lessons him being math for the day. As they walked
Eden hummed a bit on her way to class, a small tune before they
entered.
Eden sat in a seat and waited and as lessons came, Eden looked
bored as hell. Her head was on the desk her hands on her head as
she just didn’t get math. It was clear she was struggling and
mumbled if tuning was involved it be funner.
After that came history which Eden, seemed pepped for- to only
get bored again to sigh. Once it was over Eden
stretched.”staying in one spot sucks!” She said flatly.
“Anything fun we can do?” She asked as she saw silu again-
having decided to follow again.
“Silu! I said to stay!” Eden said and went over to pick it
up.”sorry-sometimes Silu gets bored too… “ she said shy like.
“Do you have pets?” Eden asked curiously.

Tahvia turned to look at Eden; feeling a sense of longing
wafting through Eden. She felt for the girl; knowing quite well
what she was feeling. Perhaps she and Inga could help fill the
void in Eden's life a little. She'd lost her own mother at an
even younger age; which was why she was super protective of her
kids and made sure to show them how much she loved them.
The Emperor nodded at Khali's words; he was a little surprised
though that Snow was already showing signs of his gifts. Maybe
Snow's time in the desert had awakened his abilities sooner than
normal. It wouldn't be that surprising. Halder's had come out at
a young age too.
"We should talk in my office," he suggested. "If it goes long,
I'll have lunch brought in,"
Katsu couldn't help but look away from Arnar, his face flushing
just a bit when his lover called him out on his overdoing it.
"I'll see you later," He told the man before Arnar disappeared
with the kids.
"If I'm not needed, I'll go make sure the other kids aren't
getting into trouble," He said and headed back to the training
ground. He wasn't all that surprised to see the new girl and
Glow sparring with the wooden blades; their movements graceful
and deadly at the same time. "One day those two are going to
make a great team," He commented to himself.

Snow was just as bored as Eden, sums were not his strong suit,
and he hated how they seemed to scramble and twist in his head.
Not that he was going to bring that up.
Adan was as happy as a jaybird as Arnar taught them about
mathematics. He'd already gotten to reading algebra books, so
picked up on the lesson rather easily. He couldn't help but
notice that the other two weren't all that interested..and
wondered if there was a way to make it more fun for them.
History class was also a repeat, with Adan raising his hand and
offering up bits of what he knew. He noticed that Snow seemed to
get more interested when he brought up past wars, and a few
unknown facts he'd found out about generals from the books in
the Fae Library.
Adan glanced at the clock and looked over the schedule that
Arnar had given him. "Well..we can go to lunch early, though we
get a whole hour and a half before we have our next class,"
Snow spied the stone fox, and perked up when Eden went over to
pick it up. "There are kittens in the stables and some winged
horses. I could take you both to meet them," He suggested,
knowing that Eden would definitely be interested. "And.no we
can't ride the horses. They're the guards' steeds. My mother
has a super silly monkey, and my Father has an owl."
Adan moved to the stone fox, letting it sniff his hand before he
pet the stony head. "I want a pet..but I guess I have to wait on
that." He said shooting a look at Snow.
He nodded. "Well..it's not going to be a pet, more of a spirit
animal that you bond with. If i"m lucky, I'll get to do that
ceremony this weekend. You two want to go see the kittens then?"

Khali nodded as he followed the king and once inside sat down
where he was showed with Jalal.”now I’m well aware both your
children have fought before/ had some training. But now I have
more questions. I will want to do this in one go- and you guys
can answer accordingly.”Said Khali and looked at the king first.
“despite the ptsd- your boys eyes were shining during that
fight- gold even.” He told the man.”do you have bloodlines that
awaken in cases of trauma or age?” He asked him after. “I only
ask cause I know certain ones don’t arise unless it’s in age- or
due to a high risk situation that forces it to happen.” Said
Khali honestly.”like mine- my father took me training in the
jungles of the fae realm and I came face to face with a tiger.”
His own eyes glowed green before it seemed he vanished to be
behind Jalal making the man turn.”now I can create mirages..
learned to throw my voice to throw off enemies.” He then stopped
what he was doing-“which I is why I ask.”
He then turned to Jalal
”that child of yours- the way she acts and changed styles.. she
went from doing basic things- to being wild- to hitting a flow
of reactionary I hadn’t seen before- I’ve seen it in the
bloodline ability of one particular family- which I suspect her
to be from Since her twin is apart of the family I am under.
Since how long she’s been like that?” Khali asked. “And please
understand I don’t plan on taking her back- not after what I
have learned.. “ he said with a serious tone.”many thought her
tragically killed by a monster- or so said by the one she once
called brother. I’ll call her by her new name, so no worries
there.” He said with a firm nod.”I also plan on resigning when
they get here formally- I don’t like sending letters when it’s
more satisfying doing it face to face- it’s up to your highness
whether I stay or not. If I do I don’t mind continuing to teach
her if you are willing.”He said and gave a bow of respect from
his sitting position.
Jalal seemed to just be all serious at what he was saying. At
the end he just chuckled.”so you have gotten a little brighter
over the years.. and mature for your age. “ Jalal smirked a
little.”you can continue teaching my daughter.. and thank you
for showing some spine.” He continued before he began to talk
seriously.
“As for Eden you’re correct- she has double minded thinking. The
other side though can be cold and cruel if not managed. End as
she calls it- manifested due to trauma- not being left in the
desert- but by some interlopers.“ Jalal continued.”she was
beaten and stolen from, only reason I know this- was the day
after- poor thing almost had nothing on and was baking in the
sun near death when I found her.”Khali felt sick hearing it but
kept his attention.”I only came to find out about end when I
found her talking to herself. At first I thought it was the
invisible friend phase- until the other side spoke to me. Far
as I know they are the same person.” He finished and leaned
back.”they share memories and experiences- and treat them as
their own. “ he tacked on at the end.

Eden perked up hearing kittens, and more at the horses- to semi
deflate at the idea of not being able to ride them. “Well I
wanna see!” She said.
Silu made its hallow noise as it leaned into Adan’s touch to
nose at his hand a little for more head pats.
After being told about other animals- Eden sat Silu down beside
them.”come on Silu! Be good!” She said as she took snows hand,
and grabbed Adan’s to head toward the stables. Once there the
loud boisterous Eden was being quiet as a mouse as she looked at
the kittens meowing and tumbling over each other clumsily. Her
fingers stroked the soft fur and deep down she wanted to take
all the kittens at home- she knew she wouldn’t be fought back
against since Jalal was about into animals as she was.
“Monkey! I wanna see! And an owl?” Eden seemed hooked now to
want to meet all these animals- course one wouldn’t know yet it
be a place for her to run to when upset.
Her head moved at the horses as she heard one whinny and got
close carefully. She put her hand out to feel the snout and
giggled a little as she pet it.”too bad I can’t ride.. you look
fun and cute!” She said. As she pet the animal she noticed
Alexander walking around with a man and he seemed to look to see
the boys a bit distracted- one with Silu and the other somewhere
else and gave her a really ugly look. Eden’s mouth frowned as
she turned her head turning her nose up. It seemed to make
Alexander glower a little before turning back politely speaking
to the knight he was learning under. The boy was smart- there
was too many around to try anything- but small glances here and
there were easily missed at times.
“Hey snow- what’s this one’s name?” Eden asked - in awe of one
that looked black- and a bit wild. She knew better as Jalal had
taught her things- and to never go near those who were not tamed
enough- this one recently had a foal so was extra protective.

Tahvia gave her husband a look before she parted ways, going
down the hall to find her younger children. The emperor knew
that he'd be finding his wife later and telling her about the
discussion that had happened. Anything about their children they
never kept from one another. That was something they'd agreed to
before they'd had kids.
The emperor took a seat across from Khali and Jalal on a
different couch and nodded so the younger man could start
talking.
Caltharas' eyebrows rose in surprise to hear that his son's eyes
had shone during the fight. This was startling and a bit
shocking that his son's ability had been triggered so soon.
"Most Audorian high borns have a gift that awakens at a certain
age, it is a bit soon for Ca-Snow to have triggered it.
Though..there have been a few cases where PTSD or trauma has
brought out abilities at an early age. Like my brother
Halder..and my great grandfather." He answered.
The emperor blinked, more than a little surprised to see Khali's
ability. "That's amazing. I've never seen an ability like that
before. I am quite impressed with your insight..and the way you
teach. You will have a position here for as long as you wish."
After he'd listened to Khali questioning Jalal and the man's
reply; he felt as though the girl had gone through a great deal
in such a short life. Even if some would think her two minds as
a strange or unusual thing..he'd heard of such a thing before
and wasn't going to think less of her.
"Is there anything else either of you would like to talk about
or discuss? I do feel as though Adan may have more going on,
though he hasn't said much yet. From what my inquisitor has
found out from the fae ambassador, Adan has endured a great deal
of traumatic abuse. It's likely he may start to show signs of
that."

Snow grinned at Eden's response to his suggestion. He'd been
right in guessing that she was an animal lover.
Adan couldn't help but smile at the stone fox's strange sound
and petted it a bit more before Eden sat Silu down on the
ground. He let out a surprised sound when she grabbed his hand
and started to drag him off. She was much stronger than she
looked.
Snow laughed, tugging Eden towards the correct direction of the
stables, and pulled the large door open to let the others in. He
watched Eden enjoying the adorable kittens. Adan seemed quite
taken with one gray kitten, even putting it inside his shirt.
Snow sat down among the kittens for a moment, playing with them
and letting them crawl over his legs. "They'll be old enough for
homes soon...I"m sure if you each want one to care for you'll be
allowed to pick one. You'll probably see Mother's monkey when
you go to your class with her. Father's owl is usually in his
office with him, unless he's sent out with a message." Snow
explained.
When Eden moved on to meet the horses, Snow gave Adan a look,
seeing the kitten squirming in his shirt. "I'll let the stable
master know to hold the gray one for you, but you gotta put it
back for now,"
Adan let out a sad sigh and set the kitten back into the pen.
"All right. See you later little buddy," He gave the kitten one
more pet before he followed Snow toward where Eden was.
That was when they noticed Alexander glaring at Eden. "What's
his problem?" Adan asked in a low voice, not caring for the
other boy at all.
"He's got a big head and lofty goals. Plus..he thinks he's
better than everyone that's not born of a high rank. Which I
find irritating as hell. He'll need to be dealt with soon. But
it can't be me, or Eden. His parents would bring charges against
her," Snow explained.
Adan frowned..realizing who that left. "So..It'd have to be me?"
"Yeah. Don't worry, I'll help you train, and I'm sure Eden will
too." Snow replied winking at him. He glanced up hearing Eden's
question and let out a curse that had Adan's ears turn red.
"Eden..careful! That's Midnight..she's not very friendly.
Especially not now."
Snow pulled Eden back gently and then led her to a small corner
where there was a viewing spot. "See? She's just had a foal.
It's a girl..and doesn't have a name yet, but Arnar is taking
suggestions. Midnight is his steed from his army days." He
explained in a low soft voice. "Promise me that you won't go
sticking your hand in her stall or getting too close. Midnight's
bitten off fingers before,"
Adan was gaping at the massive black horse that had two wings
folded against its back. "That's..that's a pegasus!" He
exclaimed rather excitedly. "I thought they'd died off long
ago."
Snow blinked. "That's a funny name for a winged horse. Come on,
we can go check out Halder's horse, he's a gentle giant and
loves getting petted. And I know where we can get some apples
and carrots to feed him," Snow added and led them off to a small
kitchen area in the stall where there were treats kept for the
horses. Once each of them had something to feed the horse, Snow
led them to the largest stall at the back of the building.
Inside was a reddish-brown draft horse that stood at least 20
hands high. "This..is Big Red," Snow introduced them. He
demonstrated how to feed the horse, holding his hand flat in
front of the horse with an apple in the middle.
Once Eden and Adan had enough time with the giant horse: Snow
led them back to the dining room for lunch. He smiled and went
to join his sister and brother who were there already.
"Snow! What'd you do today? Anything fun?" Tahmuras asked,
biting into a chicken leg.
"Some fun stuff, some boring stuff," Snow replied with a smile.
His head was still aching, and his eyes were a bit sensitive to
the light shining through the windows. "Think..I'm going to take
something to go and rest my eyes a little," He told Adan after a
few minutes.
Adan grabbed his plate of food and stood up. "I'll come with
you," He insisted..not wanting to let Snow out of his sight.

“Nothing coming about Eden- but I can keep an eye on Adan- boys
gift for languages surprised me.. may come naturally.” Said
Jalal, “maybe even do a small test to see what he actually
knows.” He said honestly. Khali then spoke up.”I feel the boy
has a lot of potential in swordplay.. he does need to hit harder
though-, he has quite the reflexes and managed a blow.. which is
good.” Said the man.”I may pair him off with snow time to time..
they could benefit from another.” Khali finished.

Eden felt a pull to a corner and heard snow. While the boy
mentioned lost fingers- part of her really wanted to touch
midnight. She looked beautiful and wild. Eden made a soft smile
at the foal who walked unsteadily around.” So cute..” she said
and noticed it kind of look at her curiously. “I promise.” She
said abruptly despite thinking of a way to bribe midnight
already. She knew she’d need to scope out what Arnar does to
even try.
She heard of halder horse to follow and saw how big it was to
gape some. She got to pet the massive creature and giggled at
its tongue when she gave it an apple.”.it tickles!” She said as
she finished to go with the boys to lunch- almost relunctantly.
She took one more look at midnight and smiled some.”bye..” she
said waving a little even if the animal snorted some.. looked
pretty to her.
She sat down to eat with the boys and listened to them all talk.
She noticed snow getting up and gave a soft look. She heard her
name from an adult and got up to walk over to talk some. Jalal
had asked that she help out, as he didn’t want her to be lazy.
She came back to let the boys know she had to do a chore but
she’d see them later. During lunch she had snuck some sugar
cubes in her pocket for later for the next visit to the stables.
After eating she went to help clean up tables with Alexander.
The boy already did it as it was part of the job. He hates it
but given his passion he’d do it. They carried plates to the
kitchen for her to feel a trip and a crash. She looked back some
and got up, thankfully not hurt to hear a small laugh, before it
stopped.”are you okay?” Asked Alexander as an adult came in and
told Eden to not take to many next time. So she got off easy.
She went to get a bucket and sat it at the end of the table to
start cleaning some of the tables. Eden didn’t seem to mind
working as she helped another kid with something. After she and
Alex were asked to take care of some waste. She made a small
frown but nodded as she grabbed one bucket with him grabbing the
other.
The two made it to dump the thing, but Eden being as short as
she was asked for Alexander’s help only to get some trash dumped
on her and made a noise.”hey!” She said and pulled a banana peel
off.”you should be careful!” She said and began picking up the
mess.
“Not my fault you’re too short.” Alexander retorted for her to
whirl her head at him.”or should I useless.. so much so in fact
your parents didn’t want you.” He said with a chuckle.
Eden just looked at him and said.”**** jalal’s my dad, he loves
me!”
Alexander laughed a bit more as they went to a shed to put the
buckets down for him to close the door.”no you’re Ayla.. and
you’re a waste of space.” Eden felt her blood boil hearing her
now dead name- but she forgotten people like to gossip.. and
this kid.. had ammo.”no I’m not and it’s Eden.. say it with me..
E.D.E.N.”
He shoved her a little and she backed up.”
Stop it.” She warned. The words he said in the quiet of the
shed continued as he made sure she would only hear it. And it
finally got to her. End shower herself and made a step.”back of
ass.hole!!!” And a fist flew out hitting him in the face
surprising him.
The door opened as he ran out yelling about a girl hitting him,
and managed to get the attention of an adult. Eden shifted back
and said.”.end what did you do…” as Arnar approached.”all I said
was that she was a little short to throw the trash, and she hit
me!” He said. Arnar sighed as there would be no proof other than
one kid hitting another. “I..I…” Eden “h..he said some stuff..
and I just..” she stammered some to feel her hand grabbed as she
was taken to go see Jalal.

Jalal started out with the two when he saw a boy holding his
nose, and Eden with a guilty look.”what happened?” He asked as
Arnar explained as Eden tried to interrupt- with Jalal quieting
her down some. After she finally bursted some granted she
backtracked more or less upset only managing to tell him of the
name calling- but never got the part of him deadnaming her or
telling her how useless she was… it was clear she was afraid as
Jalal sighed.”this isn’t the desert- you can’t just hit anyone!
You can be charged and you will have no way out!” Jalal said.
Arnar responded.”this is one strike.. it happened during
cleanup- so things are bendable in school as they are learning…
” Arnar said. Eden feeling worked up some and gently pulled at
Jalal.”let me finish!” To get the enough arguing look. Eden felt
a few tears as he told her to apologize and Eden held her pants
as she seemed unwilling to do so and at some point finally spat
it out.
She stayed quiet through the few lessons, backing away from adan
and snow a little. Once they were done Eden walked some to stop.
She didn’t want to go back- Alexander’s words seemed to really
struck a nerve.. especially when she was told she was a waste of
space, and a burden. She took off quietly, avoiding people and
sneaking into the stables. Those caring for the animals were
done that day- right now she wanted to hide. Eden saw midnight
and shuffled for the sugar cubes to throw one and watched her
eat it.”is it.. really okay for me to be here..” she mumbled as
the horse seemed to like it- giving a noise.
Eden noticed to throw another one and watched it eat it. “You
must feel.. tired being in there huh..” she said as the tears
finally started to come as she covered her face. She heard
voices to back up near midnight. She realized her mistake to
back up but noticed.. it was sniffing at her.”want more?” She
asked and felt around her pockets to give one as it seemed
midnight being a bit calm with her.. surprisingly. She let the
sound some and slipped over near a wall listening to some adults
trying to find her to hear the steps fade away. Once it sounded
perfectly quiet she came out and sat in the hay and finally
began to really cry. She couldn’t help it, she was in a new
place after all- and part of her wondered if everyone really was
okay with her being there.

Caltharas made a thoughtful sound when Jalal mentioned Adan's
gift for language. Given the boy also was far more intelligent
than other kids his age, he wondered if there was more to the
boy's background that the Fae Queen had kept from him. "Not a
bad idea Jalal. Just be careful who you tell. It may be he's
more than he appears to be."
He turned to Khali and thought over the other's suggestion to
let the young boy pair up with Snow. "Just be careful, if Snow
has a repeat of today, I really don't want Adan to get hurt,"
Once they'd finished their talk, Caltharas saw them to the door
and then headed off to find his wife to tell her what he'd
learned. She sent their younger two off to join Snow and the
other kids for lunch and turned to him. "I had a vision," She
said trembling a bit, her face troubled.
Caltharas moved to wrap her in his arms. "Tell me,"
Tahvia took in a deep breath and released it slowly. "It was a
battle, bodies everywhere..crying children, the islands falling,
and the castles in ruins. Darkness was engulfing the world..and
three stood to stop it. Our son, much older..with Adan and Eden
by his side. "
Caltharas stiffened as her voice changed and she recounted the
entire vision in greater detail, speaking of a growing evil that
was coming their way to destroy everything they'd built.
"I think..we need to get an audience with the Fae Queen and tell
her what you've seen. Do you feel up to a trip? Halder, and Inga
can keep a close eye on the younger ones. If this evil is
coming..we need every ally we can get to fight it. Or to help
our boys and Eden when it comes."
Tahvia glanced up at her husband and nodded slowly. "You're
right. They will need every advantage they can get. I don't want
to be gone too long though. Perhaps we can take some winged
steeds?"
Caltharas sucked in a breath and then nodded in agreement.
"Probably the fastest way we can get there. So..what are we
going to tell the kids before we leave?"

Snow had the feeling that Eden might find a way around her
promise but didn't say anything. Honestly..he'd done the same
thing at her age, so he couldn't hold it against her when it
happened. He could tell from Adan's expression that he wasn't
about to try and pet the wild horse.
He tried to not be annoyed by Adan being so dogged and following
after him. "You really don't have to come with me," Snow said as
they made their way down the halls and up a short flight of
stairs. "I'll be fine on my own,"
"I could rub your head again, and close your curtains," Adan
replied, not convinced to give up on keeping watch over Snow.
Snow didn't object, recalling how gentle Adan's fingers had been
and how it had felt nice. "All right," He said and opened his
door, blinking at the light coming through the large window that
looked out into the garden. "Why does it have to be so bright?"
He complained.
Adan set his plate of food down and went over to draw the drapes
closed, even tying them closed. "There..is that better?"
"Yeah..just..eat something before you faint," Snow told him and
went to lay out on his bed, letting out a sigh.
Adan shook his head a bit at Snow's words and grabbed his plate
and sat on the bed next to the prince. "You're the one that
should be eating. You said you were going to take something..but
you never did."
Snow shot him an annoyed look then snagged a piece of bread and
cheese from the younger boy's plate and started chewing slowly.
"Chewing makes my head hurt worse,"
Adan set the plate on Snow's stomach and moved up further on the
bed behind the prince and began to gently work the tense spots
on the other's head. "Should keep you around for a while," Snow
drawled, feeling the ache lessen under Adan's touch.
He wasn't sure when he had fallen asleep, but Snow woke a little
while later; feeling a strong sense that something was wrong. He
glanced around for Adan and found the boy reading a book sitting
next to him.
"What time is it? Did we miss our next class?" Snow demanded and
sat up slowly.
"It's been only like 20 minutes, we still have time. I wasn't
going to let you sleep through class," Adan replied.
"Oh..okay. Want to go now?" Snow asked.
Adan held up his pointer finger and finished reading the page
and then closed the book. "Yeah..let's go."
It was a little strange that Eden was so quiet during their
lessons, and seemed far more subdued. Adan wanted to ask her
what was wrong but knew better than to talk during classes. He
thought he'd get to ask her afterward, but she disappeared
before he could catch her.
"What happened?" HE asked looking up at Snow.
Snow frowned, running a hand through his hair. "Let me ask
around...I'm sure I can find out."
It didn't actually take that long before he spied Alexander with
a bandaged nose and Glow fawning over him with worry. He
clenched his jaw, knowing quite well that whatever had happened
that it had been Alexander that had provoked it.
"Kiya, do you know what happened?" He asked the quiet girl who
was watching with a slight grimace on her face.
"His story is that she attacked him because he called her a
baby," She said rolling her eyes a bit. "He's a liar and a jerk.
If I were to garner guess; he probably insulted her and told her
she was worthless. The guy sure knows how to milk an injury,"
She added her eyes going darker. "Maybe..I'll give him one
during our next training session. A quick kick to the groan
would be fun,"
Snow backed off, feeling oddly unsure of the girl. There was
something dark about her and menacing that he hadn't noticed
before. "Thanks..you're probably right. Just make sure it's
accidental, or you'll be getting punished next."
He went to find Adan and tell him what Kiya had said. "I bet I
know where she'd go off to," He added..thinking of how happy
she'd been in the horse's stalls. "Come on, let's find out what
really happened. I don't believe that little square's version at
all," He said shooting a glare at Alexander, one that he caught
and paled.
By now, they weren't the only ones looking for Eden. Two adults
left the stalls saying they hadn't seen her, but Snow didn't
listen. They probably hadn't looked well enough.
"Eden? I know you're in here, will you talk to us? Tell us what
happened?" Snow called out once he and Adan were closer to
Midnight's stall. He was pretty confident that she'd go to the
one place that he'd told her to avoid.

Eden was sniffling some after when she heard feet again and
scrambled to hide near the door, midnight just made a huff and
seemed to look at snow and shake its head.
When Eden heard snow calling for her. she rocked a bit on her
feet as she was crouched by the horse as if debating. She let
off a breath and put her hands up to hoist herself back over and
dropped. Her head looked at one boy and the other to run her arm
a bit on her nose. She moved away from midnights stall to a
place so they could get closer.
It was clear she was still trying to stop crying as she acted as
if she was trying to catch her breath a little. Her mouth seemed
to move as she seemed to try to swallow the hard lump
threatening to come out again.
Eden didn’t think the boys would believe her so she decided
maybe the best way was to do it the way her master taught her.
“Is there anyone else around?” She managed - almost every word
in between gasps. Once she knew there was no one else she gently
untied her mask and it slid off her eyes. The boys would be met
with a pair of puffy cerulean eyes.”I.. I was just cleaning, and
Alex..” she paused to correct it.”Alexander and I was suppose to
take out the rubbish.. called me all sorts of things.. and he
dead named me.” Eden said as tears threatened again.
Eden explained a few names he called her, him pushing her.. and
finally said.”end had enough so she came out and broke his
nose.” Said Eden quietly. She saw their looks and looked down
more. No doubt they thought her weird now.”she’s me.. just .. if
someone’s on her bad side she tends to come out even when I
don’t want her to.”
Eden couldn’t help as tears started up again.”.I tried telling
Jalal but he didn’t listen.. “her shoulders shook some as she
started to cry again. “I’m sorry for being a w…waste of..” her
voice cra.cked and she felt a hug as she couldn’t hold it
together again. Her hands moved to cling to whoever was hugging
her and buried her face where she could.

Adan shot a look up at Snow, a bit unsure of Snow's guess of
where Eden was. A few moments passed, before he was shocked by
Eden's head appearing from inside Midnight's stall and slowly
coming out, as if she hadn't just been in the dangerous horse's
stall.
Snow clapped a hand on Adan's shoulder to keep him from speaking
and then followed after Eden silently. "No..just us," Snow
replied as he moved to sit on the floor next to her. From the
sound of her voice; he could tell she'd been crying.
Adan's eyes widened quite big at the sight of Eden's eyes being
so puffy. He got a stony look on his face and shot a look at
Snow when Eden spoke Alexander's name. Oh..that guy was going
down. He might not like fighting but he wasn't going to let the
jerk get away with what he'd done with only a broken nose.
Alexander was going to be humiliated and degraded but in a
proper and civil way.
Snow was more than a little pissed off to hear that Alexander
had been bullying Eden. His cheek twitched and he ground his
teeth as she continued, talking about Alexander pushing her.
"Serves him right," Snow muttered, though he was a little unsure
what Eden had meant by "End" coming out.
His confused look lifted a bit when she explained more about who
End was.
"Kind of like a protective second mind," Adan murmured, tapping
his chin.
When Eden started crying, saying that Jalal wouldn't listen to
her, Snow's eyes flashed brightly. Her cracking voice had Snow
reacting the only way he knew. He moved and hugged her to his
chest, "Don't believe a word that little..square said about you.
He's jealous of you because you're gifted and better than he
is." Snow said, holding her and stroking a hand down her back.
Adan was a bit uncomfortable seeing Eden crying, and sobbing and
rubbed his neck while Snow hugged her, telling her why Alexander
was being such a jerk. "Eden. don't cry," he said a bit
awkwardly. "It doesn't matter what he thinks.. 'cause he's
nothing. He's a worm crawling in the dirt that thinks he's a
snake. You're the hawk that's going to show him how worthless he
is."
Snow was impressed by Adan's words and once Eden's tears had
stopped a bit, he let her go. "He's right, you know. What
matters is what Jalal thinks of you, and what you make of
yourself. I am betting Jalal was just flustered and didn't want
to look like he was playing favorites in front of Arnar. Ignore
Alex..pretend he's a stupid dog that doesn't know when to stop
barking." He advised. He glanced at Adan.
"And.. Adan and I have plans for taking Alexander down a peg or
two. You can help if you want. But we really should let everyone
know that you're okay. Everyone was looking for you. Jalal was
worried, we all were. That should tell you just how much you're
loved," Snow added and stood and helped Eden to her feet.
Adan had an annoyed look on his face as he stood up. "We do need
to set Jalal straight..tell him everything that happened.
Alexander is not going to get away with smearing Eden's name.
Deadnaming someone is a crime in Audora. An adult gets ten
lashes. Alexander..would probably get trash duty for a year,
Maybe we can find a different Job for Eden to do, far away from
that jerk,"

Eden felt the stroke of her back. Somehow it felt soothing, and
if she wasn’t so flushed from crying - she would be blushing.
She tried catching her breath as she turned her heard hearing
Adan. “A hawk..” she repeated softly. She finally seemed to calm
down and heard snows insult to chuckle some.”dog.. all bark..”
he mumbled and rubbed one of her eyes.
She blinked a bit and seemed to think.”I want him to
understand.. it’s not okay..” she calmed down greatly.”I’m
sorry… now I remember something important.. he also poured
garbage on me on purpose.., I can’t really prove the other thing
though- but I think he tripped me when i had some plates..” Eden
mumbled.
Eden nodded quietly and took her mask to put it back on. If she
was gonna walk out she wasn’t gonna give Alexander the
satisfaction of seeing her eyes until things were said. She took
snows hand and clinged some.
She started to walk her face turning at Adam’s information to
pause.
“it’s a crime here? I know in the desert we generally suppose to
pretend that’s someone else- or allowed to correct them-but
usually if they say it enough we have the right to lash out.. he
did use it twice..” she said as she rubbed her head. “I’m
sorry.. I ended up making friends with midnight.. but I got
close by accident and she seemed fine with me so I hid there-
since I figured no other person would get close.” She said
honestly.

Solis gotta. back from his own work, having already dropped
things off and cleaned up. The man noticed how some guards were
looking for something.”uh… what’s going on?” He asked before
seeing Arnar sighing.”maybe she went this way.” And saw the red
headed teen.”can you help, there’s a young girl with a mask- she
kind of poofed and her father is kind of freaking out.” He
heard.”how old?” He asked to hear 12. He took in how Jalal
looked and it reminded him of Azhar.. the mark on his forehead
made his eyes widen a little.”yeah.. I’ll help look for the
kid.” He said as he went toward the man who was vocalizing being
too hard, and how he’d do better to himself before calling for
Eden.
“Hey hey.. chill.. if she ran off she probably needed to breath-
especially after being punished.” Said Solis to see the man’s
face snap to him.”to her room maybe. But not hiding to the point
of me and now everyone looking for her!” He said as he seemed
stressed.”well better not react like that when you find her or
she’ll find another place harder for you to look- or grow up and
not want to see you forever.” He said nonchantly. He watched
Jalal deflate knowing the boy was right. He calmed down by the
time Eden walked up snow holding her hand and Adan the other. He
watched her approached her head down.”I’m sorry I hid.. I..I
just…” Eden started as she then saw Solis to stiffen noticeably.
He blinked and gave a gently smile- well as gentle as his face
would allow.”it’s ok kid- I was just helping pops calm down-
even a little. Speak up while he’s happy knowing your ok.”
Eden relaxed a little and he watched her take a breath.”father..
there was more to it.. Alexander dead named me.. he did it
knowing it would hurt..” Jalal paused as well as Arnar.”what was
that?” Eden was holding both boys hands a bit tightly obviously
afraid and continued.
“Well, we took the rubbish out.. and he called me useless and a
waste of space..” she started. She began to tell her side
exempting the dishes. As she knew she couldn’t prove anything on
that.”he dead named me twice- even after I corrected him, a..and
he kept going -.. end couldn’t take it anymore.. so she hit
him.” Eden finished as Solis had a stunned look. He knew Alex
was a little sh.it, but to deadname a person was uncalled for.
He looked at Jalal who was calm, but he clearly had clenched his
fist.
Arnar let a breath out- he didn’t know what to do- given the
injury was apparent was proof enough of her hitting him- as for
how she was provoked was a bit harder to prove.
Arnar turned when Adan asked about a chore away from the boy.”it
probably would be wise.. given the situation- I can’t do
anything aside from what was involved.. and dead naming is a
serious offense- if it can be proven“ Eden’s head shifted down
a bit sadly, and seemed to just climb back in her shell.
Solis noted how Eden was- he had a feeling that she’d be better
off taking a breath once in a while.“Yanno- I wouldn’t mind a
tag along for when I gotta go to town- it’s just errand stuff so
I could use an assistant.” The man said as Jalal seemed to not
like the idea- at first. “I’ll keep the kid safe, it would
probably be good- requires to be a bit disciplined and getting
stuff done. I handle some negotiations with merchants a lot that
help the kids out.” He said as Jalal finally seemed to give his
nod of approval.
“I’ll take her once a week-maybe two around lunchtime- could use
that and the days where she doesn’t have to worry about a class
to take her.” Said Solis with a small smile. He knew he’d talk
with whoever was in swordery on occasion as well given he had an
idea to help the girl some. He grinned a bit at snow.”hey - your
getting tall!” He said as he looked at snow. Solis was near 6’4
on his own but he could tell snow was going to be tall before
long.

Snow smiled hearing Eden repeating what he and Adan had told
her. He had the feeling that she'd be okay now and be able to
tell Jalal what had happened.
"The thing is, he knows better. He just wants to mess with you
'cause he thinks he can get away with it." Snow said with a
frown.
Both boys were scowling when Eden brought up that Alexander had
poured trash on her, and that she thought he'd tripped her. Snow
cursed under his breath something that had Adan's face go red.
"You shouldn't say that!" Adan protested, glancing around
worriedly.
Snow rolled his eyes. "Well it's true," He nodded when Adan
brought up that deadnaming was a crime. "We have a lot of
refugees here that have started over. Sometimes there are people
who try and hunt them down. So..saying someone's dead name is a
punishable offense,"
Snow merely laughed at Eden's apologizing for making friends
with Midnight. "Don't worry about that. I kind of
overexaggerated. She has been super protective of her foal, and
barely tolerates strangers on good days. You're special though.
You must have animal magnetism," Snow told her with a grin.
Adan shot a longing glance over at the pen where the kittens
were held as they passed it. "How much longer?" He asked
glancing over at Snow.
Snow chuckled and then they all heard the calls for Eden. "A
week. Come on,"
They emerged together to see Jalal with several other people,
some that Adan had yet to meet. Snow's face brightened when he
noticed Solis there.
He squeezed Eden's hand to encourage her to talk and finish what
she was saying. Adan kept her hand in his, even though he felt a
little awkward at the grownups seeing it. He was starting to
like her, not that he was ready to tell her that just yet.
Adan was more than a little frustrated to hear that the adults
couldn't do anything about what Alexander had done. He started
to open his mouth to argue when Snow shot him a sharp look.
"If it was witnessed by a third party, it could be proven," Snow
said in a serious tone. "It'd be easy enough for my father to
speak to the animals near the garbage and see if they heard it."
The idea had just come to him when he realized that his father's
ability might just help back Eden's claim.
Adan's eyes went huge and his jaw dropped at this news.
"Wait..he can talk to animals? Seriously?"
Snow nodded, with a smug look on his face. "Any third party, be
it animal or human can bear witness against anyone that commits
a crime. It's one of the rules of the kingdom. Father will not
abide any crime, even the small ones being broken." He shot a
look at his Uncle Arnar. "It might be better if you make the
request, Uncle," He added with a respectful nod of his head.
He was however pleased that Eden would be able to get a job far
from the little square's attention. He winked at Eden. "You'll
like working with Solis," He told her.
Snow smiled when Solis finally noticed that he'd grown since
they'd last spent time together. "yeah..and have I got some
stories to share with you, Cuz," He said with a bright smile.
"Oh...Adan, this is my cousin, Solis. Technically he's Uncle
Halder's cousin like three times removed, but Cuz is easier to
say. Solis, this is Adan Tennere, my new brother," He said
introducing the two. "You have time later tonight to hang out
Solis?"
He shot a look at Jalal and then Eden. "We do have a music
class, did you want to go? It's a private lesson, so no
encounters with Alexander should happen. Adan and I will make
sure she's not alone." He added.
