Starting an alternate circle: beginnings

Jalal had arrived to Audora, with Eden in tow. The young girl
had her hair hidden under a cloak, and her eyes covered. It had
been this way in the desert until he had an encounter with the
priestess he had wisely taken off with Eden here as he felt her
safest. He held the young girl's hand as he looked around. He
was behind the general and a young boy, having met up with them
and helped stave off a catastrophe that would have ended the
General's life. Eden still had not come out of her shell, in
fact, she went in further after seeing her twin in the fae
kingdom and finding out the family never wanted her. He held her
for several nights soothing her cries as he promised to never
leave her side.
The girl was quiet as she walked her pet, despite how odd it
looked following by her. She had been quiet the whole trip and
it worried him. The scenery was breathtaking.. floating
islands.. watching the ships flying about was wonderous. Eden
was looking around no doubt with the look though one wouldn’t
know. She finally let the man’s hand go jogging ahead a little.
”don’t go too far!” Said Jalal and watched her stop, look at
him, then jutted her chin out in defiance to run off.
He sighed and tuned his ability of wind to catch up quickly to
snatch the girl up hovering.”how you do that?” He heard the
girl. ”told you not gonna tell you till you turn 13..” he said
and heard her whine. ”but I wanna know now!” And felt the girl
wriggle. ”keep wriggling and no dessert tonight.” He said flatly
for her to stop. ”fiiiiine.” He heard her utter in her small
voice.
The gem that was on his intricate belt had several refined
jewels and he was a master tuner. He could tell Eden was adept
when he found her at 10, and having her hold the stones.. told
him she’d be able to do it all. Such a thing never occurred for
a female in almost over 500 years since the Red King's demise.
To see this now made him wonder if something was coming. As a
result, she hid her eyes and hair, her hair due to the idea of
being the red king in the desert- her eyes as she looked as if
kissed by the gods themselves. He couldn’t help but feel this
girl was destined for great or terrible things depending on the
result of her life.
But since then- every time she got snagged or caught had ended
up with him using one of his stones- and the girl's excitement
grew. So as a result he started training her hand-to-hand,
swords, and having her read his notebook to understand the
concepts of tuning and the elements. It seemed to be the only
way to curb her energy. And when she showed signs of becoming a
woman- made Jalal even more protective. He let a breath off.
”General are we almost there?” I’m afraid Eden will not sit
still for much longer.” He said to the man as he walked a bit
more briskly to catch up.

Though Snow was glad he was going back home to his family, he
wasn't really looking forwards to wearing starched shirts and
the tight pants his mother insisted on him wearing. He'd
possibly grown too fond of the loose garments his Uncle had
allowed him to wear. Even now his face was a bit smudged with
dirt and his fingernails were a bit dirty. Something his mother
would have been more than a little annoyed over.
His attention was drawn to the young girl that the Tuner was
trying to wrangle towards the docking bay at the edge of the
lake. He held back a laugh when she tried to run off, only to
get caught by Jalal quickly. It was quite fascinating seeing the
man use his abilities.
He felt his Uncle Halder's firm hand settle on his shoulder and
glanced up at the red-haired man.
"She's going to need a friend, you up for that nephew?"
Snow nodded and then smiled when Jalal and Eden caught back up
to them.
"We'll have to ride one of the ships uptop to The Emperor's
island," Halder replied. "You are welcome to call me by my name
Jalal. You saved my life, it's only fair," He insisted kindly.
"I owe you a great deal more than just a safe place to raise
your daughter,"
Snow moved towards Eden slowly, not wanting to frighten her,
She'd seemed a bit skittish around him since they'd first met.
"Hey Eden, I can show you the best place to stand on the
airship. It actually makes you feel like you're flying,"
Snow led the way to the dock to the Emperor's airship, and
climbed up the rope ladder first to show Eden how it was done.
Then helped her over the side when she got there. He very
narrowly missed tripping over a kid that was huddled in a corner
with his face in a book.
"Oh..sorry, didn't see you down there," Snow said with a frown,
taking in the pressed clean attire, and the boy's wind-tussled
hair.
Adan let out a startled sound when a foot narrowly missed
stepping on him and glanced up, staring a bit wide-eyed at the
two strangely dressed kids that stood over him. Though..were
they kids? Or older? He couldn't really tell with the girl's
eyes and head completely covered.
A dawn of recognition filled his face when he realized who the
boy was.
"It's my fault," Adan apologized, pulling his legs up and out of
the way. "I didn't know anyone would come over this way. The
sailors told me to keep out of the way. I didn't want to be
stuck in the hold with my uncle. He's..well..not the nicest."
Snow raised an eyebrow. "Best place to avoid others is the
lookout box, you can join us if you want," He added, shooting a
look at Eden.
Adan's eyes widened as he looked up at the very high-up lookout
box. It had to be at least 12 feet in the air. "I...I think I'll
stay down here," He said weakly. His stomach was already nervous
enough about going up in the sky in an airship. Being out in the
air even higher would probably make him sick.
Snow shrugged his shoulders. "Well if you change your mind,
you're still welcome," He said and led Eden to the mast and
started climbing up.

“Still halder..” said Jalal.”I owe you.. who would have known
what would happened if we stayed longer.” He finally set the
girl on her feet as she clung a bit to his cloak to notice snow
slowly making his way to blush a bit and hide her face in the
man’s cloak. “R..really?” She said in a small way.
She then finally relinquished her hold on jalals cloak to follow
snow. Eden watched the boy make his way up and over and saw his
white hair peek out a bit and made a breath out to climb, she
felt him giving her a hand over to notice a boy. She tilted her
head as she listened and saw him reading. She finally spoke
up.”can.. can you come with us?” She asked.”I know it looks
scary at first- but…” Eden trailed off and gained a bit more
voice at the boy despite sounding unsure of the new face.”it’s
fun when you overcome fears .. even when meeting new people..”
She started to climb, granted her energy was making her bit
frustrated at not climbing faster given snow was already
climbing up too slow for her.
Once they reached the crows nest she took the boys hand to get
up, a gust of wind knocking her hood off as she looked around,
her brilliant red hair furling in the wind.”oh… it does feel
like your flying!” She said as she was too into the sky and
seeing the birds seemingly fly closer. That’s when she realized
her hood had came off and immediately pulled it on over her head
to cling to it some. “S..sorry..” she said reflexively. Her mind
went to the creepy priestess that had touched her hair and made
her feel icky, which was why she was trying to be more mindful
about it.

Jalal watched how Eden seemed to finally run off with the young
boy and sighed.”well at least this time she went from my..” he
started to notice how she was being led to the crows
nest.”please for the love of all things holy.. “ he watched her
climb her way up with the boy and tensed a little bit. He knew
eventually he had to relax and let her go. Given now they were
out of the desert lands meant he could loosen his hold on the
young girl to let her grow.

"Sounds like we both owe each other," Halder commented and
brushed his hair out of his face. The wind was starting to get a
bit stronger as the airship's wind tuner was building up to get
their ship off of the dock.
He smiled, pleased that Snow engaged the girl. At least it
seemed like she was a bit more at ease with the boy than him. He
wondered if it was because she'd seen him go into his warrior
mode; his rage having taken over during that fight and his eyes
going almost white as he had engaged the fanatic horde.
He and Jalal got onto the ship after the youngsters and he
noticed the interaction between the other young boy. There was
something..different about him he couldn't help but notice. His
attention was drawn back to Jalal when he suddenly swore under
his breath and glanced up to see Snow was taking her to the
crow's nest.
"SNOW USE THE HARNESSES! He bellowed up, so the boy could hear
him over the sound of the wind.
Snow turned to give the thumbs-up sign so Halder knew he'd heard
him.
"She'll be safe, Snow will make sure she wears a harness that's
tied off to a rope. If she does fall..which she probably won't,
it'll keep her from getting hurt. Snow's been going up there for
years, and he's got quick reflexes," He tried to reassure the
man. "You need a drink maybe?"
Snow grinned, hearing Eden's exclamation. He blinked at the red
hair but didn't mention it when She covered it back up quickly.
"No need to apologize, you've seen my uncle haven't you? He's
got red hair. He can seem scary, but he's a big softy. You
should see him give his daughter and siblings piggie back
rides,"
Snow knew that Eden had seen his Uncle Halder at a bad moment,
and wanted her to know that the man wasn't always like that. He
was far more human and kinder than that side she'd seen during
the fight.
Adan couldn't help but consider the strange girl's plea to come
with them. It was strange that she seemed to pick up on his
unspoken fear, and told him it was fun to overcome them. For
several long moments, he considered whether he should stay below
where it was safe, or go up with the others.
Finally, he exhaled and stood up slowly. He didn't really notice
the two grown men as he moved to climb up after Eden and the
Prince. He was smart enough to keep his eyes upward and not
glance down as he climbed. His hands grabbed the ledge when he
got to the top.
"Decided to come huh?" He heard the Prince say, as his hands
were grabbed and he was helped over.
"Yeah.." Adan groaned, huddling down in the corner, his eyes
shut tightly.
The other boy chuckled and he felt something being tied around
him.
"Here Eden, if you don't want Jalal coming up here, you should
wear a harness too," Snow said grabbing the other one to tie
around her waist securely. He was careful to not touch any areas
below, though he did pass a part under her legs and secured that
as well. It was a good thing she was wearing pants or it
wouldn't have been so easy.
Adan slowly opened his eyes and got up on his knees to peer over
the edge, right as the boat started to rise, the winds lifting
it up.
"Oh gods..we're going up!" He exclaimed, his hands tightening on
the edge.
Snow couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Yeah..that's how we get to
the islands. Did you think we were going out on the lake?"
Adan groaned, feeling his stomach churning. "NO..I..I"m just
scared of heights,"
The Prince stopped laughing and moved to pat Adan's back. "If
you feel like puking..try not to do it into the wind..it'll just
come back at us."
Adan groaned some more, nodding his head slowly.

Jalal looked at halder and heard him yell about harnesses “it’s
not that I don’t trust snow..” started Jalal.”it’s Eden I’m
worried about- if you knew bout the times I’ve had to save that
girl.. you’d understand.. and a drink- probably be the best for
my nerves.” He said with a sigh. He noticed the man’s look on
his face.”something on your mind friend?” He asked as his gaze
seemed to be on Eden.”don’t worry give her time.. she’s been
through a lot..” he said quietly. The only thing Jalal ever said
to the man was about Eden needing asylum, he kept her past out
as much as possible as this was her new beginning.
Eden had sandwiched the hood over her mouth.”your uncle is cool,
and he fights really well.. .I just.. ” Eden said and seemed to
relax a little bit.”a very creepy person touched my hair once
and called me a king or whatever- “ said Eden.”I’ve gotten use
to hiding.. “ she finished honestly.
She heard a noise of a boy hoisting himself to turn. Eden had
let her hood fall back and helped the boy over. She heard snow
mention a harness.”either way I’d be ok- mas- father would just
catch me.” She started to correct herself.”but I rather avoid
punishment so I’ll let you.” She said with a permissive smile.
Eden saw how Adan was to sit by him and take his hand.”hey it’s
ok.. going up is hard but eventually it’s fun..” said Eden. “My
names Eden.” She said and smiled.”being up here.. feels like
freedom.” She said as she looked at the sky.

Halder nodded slowly as Jalal half explained why he was worried
about the girl. He knew the two weren't actually related, not
that he'd spoken that out loud. "I'm definitely not looking
forwards to that with my own little girl, you know, letting her
grow up and start taking risks and all," Halder replied,
thinking of his young daughter he was returning to.
"I'll probably lock her in at night," He muttered under his
breath.
He nodded again and gave the ships' tuner the go ahead to head
out before leading Jalal into his own stateroom to get them some
drinks. "I know her seeing me in my warrior's rage, all powered
up had to have been frightening for her." He said as he poured
out two very generous drinks and handed one to Jalal and
motioned for him to take a seat.
"Hopefully in time she'll see past that side," Halder added and
took a deep drink of his mead. "I had a thought; once I've
talked to my mate Inga, I'd like you and Eden to join us one
night for dinner. Inga was a Hawk Woman before she left a few
years ago. She might..be able to help Eden settle a bit easier.
My brother's wife is kind and all, but can be a bit much for
people that don't know her,"

Snow couldn't help but frown when Eden explained about someone
touching her hair and calling her a king. That was kind of
creepy. "Yeah, something like that would be freaky," He said
softly. "Those fanatics seemed pretty freaked out by my hair too
come to think about it. Maybe they're just messed up in the head
or something." He said with a shrug.
Snow caught Eden's quick correction, but managed to keep from
showing any reaction. He'd wondered how they were related and
now knew the truth. "Well,you won't have to hide in Audora if
you don't want to," He told her.
A strange feeling went through him when Eden showed the newcomer
some kindness. Why was he feeling like this?
Adan gripped the hand a bit tightly, his eyes slowly opening to
take in the sight of the girl with her hood off, bright red hair
framing her veiled eyes. "Eden? That's pretty. I'm Adan." He
replied, feeling his nausea slowly ebb away as the ship rose up
slowly.
"exactly, free and wild," Snow said with a grin. "Come on, stand
up slowly," He urged Adan as he stood to up, the wind ruffling
his hair wildly.
Adan shivered a bit, but stood up slowly, still hanging onto the
edge. "It is pretty up here...you can see...for miles," The
sight of the land being so far away, had his stomach twirl, and
he groaned, shutting his eyes. "Oh god..why couldn't they have
an easier way of getting there,"
Snow couldn't help but feel a bit sympathetic towards Adan's
reaction. He dug through his pocket and found a ginger candy
that he offered. "This should help settle your stomach, if you
want it."
Adan opened his eyes enough to take the candy, unwrap it and
sucked on it. "That...does seem to help, thanks."
The trip Auradon's capital where the Emperor's castle didn't
take too long, probably a half hour at most. The ship was
docked, and tied down to keep it from blowing away. Snow glanced
down to the deck of the ship.
"You want to climb or go down the fun way?" He asked, shooting a
grin at Eden and Adan. He was already pretty sure Adan would
want to go the slow way. But he might as well give him the
options first.
"We can climb down, or use the bungy ropes and jump down."

Jalal sat down to take a cup and made a deep sigh.”honestly I
was gonna stay quiet.. but since we will be living here…” he
swallowed the cup down swiftly.”I know at most I’ve told you she
was being targeted as an possible incarnation of the red king.”
Jalal then sighed.” There’s more to it..”
Jalal sighed as he decided to open up about Eden.”pretty sure
you picked up that we are not related.. but nonetheless.. she is
my daughter. “ he got another cup as he watched the ship taking
them up.
”Eden … was an abandoned child.. I didn’t know it at first as
she said she was lost.. when I found her she was almost dead.”
He said quietly. “I honestly thought to some capacity her family
would be looking for her.. when she mentioned the fae realm.. ”
Jalal went very quiet and seemed to shift for one more
drink.”when we made the pit stop there, and you headed off-for
your own thing. Remember when I said I had private business? I
was finding her family.. “ his face went dark.”they made no
effort to find her.. not only that her twin- her brother was the
reason she was left in the first place.. so.. I decided to not
give her back.” He said curtly.”her mother, and her identical
twin have red hair.. that might be why she’s avoiding talking to
you… “
Jalal then heard Halder mention dinner and a woman from the hawk
group.”.. that wouldn’t be a bad idea.. “ he said as he seemed
deep in thought.

Eden smiled as Adan managed to overcome how he was feeling. She
saw the candy to get a little jealous but kept it to herself.
The sight of the castle made her audibly gasp, “so cool!” She
said as they were heading to the dock area. She almost did not
hear snow, till she heard bungee cords.”I wanna go thaw bungee
way! Adan come on! It’ll be fun!!!! “ Eden said acting excited
at the idea of jumping off and bouncing around.
Once she was all settled she didn’t think twice about jumping
off and causing Jalal to yell a little for a brief moment for
halder to hold him back a bit. Eden just giggled as she seemed
to go up and down, until she stopped.”that was fun!” She shouted
for the boat and whoever else heard her.

Halder drank his mead listening as Jalal spoke. Having been on
the receiving end of the fanatical followers of the demon
king..he wasn't all that surprised that Eden had been targeted.
"Yeah..they mentioned that when they attacked me too." He said
and poured himself a bit more when his cup was empty.
He nodded when the man told him what he'd suspected. "I can
understand that," He replied evenly. His face got a bit hard
when he heard that Eden had been abandoned by her real family.
His eyes actually flashed, as anger filled him when he heard
that her brother had been the cause. "Good for you. At least she
has you." He poured a bit more mead and downed it. "Well..we'll
just have to let her see that I'm nothing like that," He said
reasonably.
Halder didn't mind taking his time showing the girl that there
were good people in the world. She already knew Jalal was
one..and in time she'd see there was a great deal more.
"The Emperor is likely to need a day or two before he can hear
you out about Eden. Until then, I do have a place outside the
castle where you and Eden can stay. I'll probably be debriefing
for a few days," He sighed thinking of everything that he needed
to tell his brother. "Inga will be happy to help you with
whatever you might need. We can stop there first. Then I'll take
Snow to his parents."
It wasn't until saying this that he realized he hadn't told
Jalal who Snow's parents were. "Oh..yeah..Snow is the Emperor's
son. I meant to say that earlier. He's gotten a little..reckless
since he's been on the road with me. I apologize in advance,"
[hr]
Adan was able to relax a bit more, his stomach had settled, and
watched in awe as they drew closer to the massive castle. He
clung to the edge when they docked.
Adan almost went paper white when Snow mentioned using the
bungee ropes, and gulped when Eden jumped and bounced, making
the box shake a bit. "Are you for real?" He asked in disbelief.
This girl was crazy!
Snow chuckled, not surprised by their opposite reactions. He
checked over Eden's rope and harness carefully before giving her
the thumbs-up sign. "ONE COMING DOWN!" He yelled so those below
would know that someone was jumping.
He could almost make out his uncle and Jalal below and cringed
slightly when Jalal looked freaked out when Eden jumped.
Thankfully his uncle held him back so he wouldn't get hurt.
"I think her father is gonna hate me for that," Snow commented
and glanced over at Adan. "You sure you don't want to jump?"
Adan clung to the side, watching as Eden bounced up and down
several times before she came to a stop. Then a big red-haired
man moved to untie her from the bungee rope and moved it out of
the way, glancing up and then moving back.
"I don't..." Adan started to say, only to be shocked when Snow
grabbed him, pulled him up to the top of the box, and wrapped
his arms tightly around him. "Prince Cal-" he started to protest
and then they were falling as Snow launched them off the side of
the box.
The world spun and went upside down as they fell, Adan screaming
the entire way down. Snow was laughing loudly in his ear,
holding on tightly as they bounced and went up and down several
times more than Eden. With the extra weight..it took a little
bit more time before they stopped moving.
Snow finally let go and flipped down onto his feet. "Be honest,
that was fun right?"
Adan blinked at the upside-down grinning face of the Prince.
"Just..get me off of this thing," He said, his entire body
flooded with exhilaration, and felt his cheeks heat up.
Snow chuckled and started to untie him, and helped him onto his
feet, with the assistance of his uncle.
"What the hell is going on?" A very horrified-sounding voice
exclaimed joining the others on the deck. "You could have killed
him!"
Snow glanced up at the red-faced man in official robes. "Just
having some fun, sir."
The man blinked..taking in the face and the clothes and realized
instantly who Snow was.
"It's all right Sir, I'm fine," Adan said stepping in, not
wanting the Prince to get in trouble.
"Well, grab your things, we have an audience with the emperor
within the hour. We must get you cleaned and presentable before
then," The man said with a great deal of self-importance.
Snow blinked, glancing at Adan and the man for a moment. "Nice
meeting you Adan. Maybe I'll see you around." He moved to join
his Uncle, Jalal, and Eden, not thinking that He'd see much more
of Adan than that. Boy was he wrong.

Jalal blinked at what the man said some. “No I understand- some
duties are more important.. and we will take it.” He had said to
the man before seeing the whole thing go down.
Eden saw the red headed man to stiffen noticeably before she was
untied and then went by Jalal a bit to cling again. He gave a
soft look before hearing the scream of a boy. Eden watched them
plummet and made a face. She should have done that! Looked more
fun.”I wanna go Ag-“ she started to hear “no.”
Jalal was a bit suprised to hear the boy was a prince. He
figured given status they may not see the boy much.. despite it,
he felt some potential tuning abilities within snow. When he saw
the other boy he couldn’t help but let a ripple out, it came
back and he mumbled.”another?” He smiled a bit realizing he
could establish teaching of tuning. Not many knew of it that was
for sure.
Eden made a sad look to see Adan go. She was feeling as if she
was beginning to make friends. Her head shifted to snow as she
felt a small pain in her heart. Was she going to be separated
from her new friends? She held on jalal’s cloak as she followed
them to the small place. With each step eden felt a bit more
pain tightening as they made it.”thank you again halder..
snow..” he told the boy.”eden.. “ he started for her to walk
up.”bye… “ she said in a small voice. She shifted from one foot
to another before finally giving snow a hug. She then went back
to Jalal to stand by him to blush a little.

Halder ran a hand through his beard, nodding at Jalal's reply.
"Sometimes...I wish things were simpler. You don't know how glad
I am I wasn't the one that got the throne," He confided.
Halder was not happy with Snow, giving him a sharp look after
the encounter with Adan's guardian. "I apologize for my nephew's
rash and reckless actions, If there's anything I can do, please
let me know."
Adan saw Eden's sad look and gave her a small wave. Maybe..it
wouldn't be the last time he'd see her.
"Well..boys can be rash at times...I don't hold it against the
Prince." The man said trying to sound magnanimous. Adan made a
face, knowing he was just trying to appear nicer than he was.
"Come, Adan, grab your things," He added and pushed Adan towards
the small room he'd been holed up in.
Adan winced and moved quickly to grab his bags, and then
followed the man off the ship. Thankfully there was someone to
help him with his bags once they'd gotten off. If he was lucky,
he might not be leaving with his guardian. He hoped with all his
heart he could stay here, and maybe find a real friend for once.

Snow looked down, bowing his head in contrition at his uncle's
sharp look. He gritted his teeth a bit at the red-faced man's
comment, and his eyes flashed seeing how Adan flinched at the
other's touch. Had anyone else noticed He wondered.
Before he could mention it, Adan was gone and his uncle was
ushering the others off the ship and to his small cottage
outside the castle. It wasn't much, but Snow often liked to
sneak off to it when castle life grew too stressful.
"I'll leave word with Inga, and she'll be over shortly to help
you get things squared away," Halder said once he'd given them a
short tour of the small grounds and the cottage.
Snow nodded at Jalal's thanks, feeling a bit awkward about the
trouble he'd caused. He was a bit surprised by the hug but
patted her back before she pulled away. "Bye Eden," He said
waving, and then followed Halder. "I'll come to visit you as
soon as I am allowed," He added over his shoulder.
Snow meant it, though he knew it might be awhile. With having
been away for nearly a year; it wouldn't be surprising if his
parents kept a sharp eye on him for a while.
"Next stop to Dove and Inga?" Snow asked hopefully. "It might be
a week before you get to see them if you go straight to my
father,"
Halder sighed. "Yeah..them first."
Snow brightened and took up the lead, his now longer legs making
it easy to pass his uncle's strides. "You're starting to become
a beanpole," Halder teased, looking him over.
Snow grinned. "Good. One day I want to be taller than you!"
The visit to Inga and Dove wasn't a very long one, but it was a
good one. Inga looked quite intrigued by the news that a Tuner
was staying in their old home with a young charge. "Take Dove
with you, I'm sure she can spend time with her younger cousins
while I'm helping them." She said putting Dove in her father's
arms. "I'll come to get her when I'm done." She promised and
kissed Halder and then kissed her happy 3 yr old on the cheek.
Inga's descent into the cottage was well-timed. With a basket
full of food, bedding, and clothes she would be a welcomed
sight. Inga's arm tattoos were exposed, and her long hair was
pulled back in a long braid.
