       Marriage of Necessity

Smith was a 25 year old
young woman, she worked as a youtube star doing all kinds of
videos, and made millions working from her home. Of course, she
also had a best friend named Callie, who was married to
Johnathan and they had a beautiful 18 month old named Abbie.
They had set her up on a blind date six months ago with
Johnathan's best friend, Anthony. The date had not gone well at
all. In fact, Cordelia was pretty sure he wasn't interested in
her at all. Of course, he kept texting her, and she kept
ignoring him. They just hadn't been compatible, and Cordelia was
fine to leave it at that. That didn't mean that Tony had given
up, although he should have considering she never even texted
       him back.
Two months ago, Cordelia and Tony had been at a party that
Callie and Johnathan had hosted, Cordelia had gotten tipsy, and
before she knew it, she had been in the guest bedroom having hot
sex with Tony. It had been incredible, but it had made Tony more
obsessed with her, and she had been avoiding him ever since. In
truth, she didn't want to admit she had enjoyed the hookup, if
only because it didn't escape her mind that their date had gone
horribly, and they probably wouldn't be good in a relationship
with one another. Besides, she had secrets she didn't intend to
share with anyone. Well, Callie knew, because they were
essentially from the same clan of Fae.
Everything had changed only a week ago, when Callie and
Johnathan had been in a deadly car accident. The funeral was
beautiful, and depressing, as the couple was a young couple who
had been together since high school, and they'd left behind
their 18 month old. As she was listed as one of the two chosen
to be a guardian for Abbie, Abbie had been brought to Cordelia's
after the accident. Now, with Abbie in her lap, Cordelia covered
the young girl's ears as there was a reading of the will, where,
sitting beside Tony, Cordelia learned they were both the
assigned Guardians. There was a video, and the caseworker took
Abbie outside to play it for Tony and Cordelia alone with the
       attorney.
Callie and Johnathan sat in front of the camera, and it was
Callie who spoke. "We chose you two in the event of a disaster,
to parent our little Abbie. We did think your date would have
gone better, as you two would have been good together, but
now.... We implore you... If you ever cared about us, or Abbie
for that matter... We need you two to get married, today. The
Attorney can marry you and get the rest of the paperwork to
adopt Abbie started. Marriage is the only way no one will ever
take Abbie from you. She's your daughter now, and she needs you
guys." Johnathan was nodding alongside his wife in agreement.
Meanwhile, Cordelia was staring at Tony in a state of shock. Of
course she had to do what was needed for Abbie, but to marry
someone she didn't love? That seemed like too big of an ask
honestly. It was rather lucky that the attorney said there was a
part just for Tony, and shooed her out of the room. Cordelia
paced the hall for a long time before going outside to think
about this. She didn't really have a choice, did she?

Tony was still in shock after the funeral had ended. The loss of
his best friend was not anything he was ever going to get used
to. They had been best friends for the majority of their lives.
Jonathon and he had grown up together and had each other's backs
through thick and thin. And now he was just gone, and so was his
wife and there was nothing anyone could do to bring them back.
He couldn't help but glance over at their daughter Abbie. The
little girl was sitting in the lap of Delia, Callie's closest
friend. He couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen to
the little girl. As far as he knew, the young couple didn't have
any family that could take the baby. Dear little Abbie didn't
even understand that she wouldn't ever see her parents again.
Tony didn't want to even think about Delia, or what had gone on
       between them. She obviously didn't want anything to do with him;
even though they had shared something special together. At least
he had thought they had. Maybe one day he'd stop feeling so
strongly for her. He watched as the nanny left, taking the baby
       with her.
His attention went to the tv screen when Johnathon and Callie's
faces showed up and listened to them talking. He felt his jaw
tense when their failed date was mentioned, and let out a sigh.
He had been a perfect gentleman and was still wondering why
Delia had been so turned off. Maybe she was more into bad boys.
He was more than a little shocked when the couple pleaded for
them to get married and adopt Abbie as their own. It was
mind-blowing to him that he was being asked to marry a woman
that didn't want anything to do with him. Still..this was his
best friend Johnathon asking him to raise his daughter. How
could he say no? He knew that Callie and Johnathon wouldn't ask
them if there was someone else they had trusted to do it.
"We can talk after this," Tony managed to call after Delia. He
knew there was going to be a lot to discuss before they made up
       their minds about the request.
Then he was left alone to watch the video by himself.
"Tony dude, I know you've fallen in love with Delia. Just tell
her how you feel. She'll give you another chance man. I know she
will. If things go bad and you two end up together raising
Abbie, it will be so much easier if you both at least like each
       other."
Tony couldn't help but let out a sigh as the screen went fuzzy.
There was a lot to think about, but Tony knew that he would do
whatever was best for Abbie in the end. The poor kid needed
stability and people who loved her. He was pretty sure that
       Delia wanted the same.
Tony stood up and stretched before he headed out to find Delia.
"How about we go talk outside in the garden for a few minutes?"
He suggested when he found her pacing in the hall.

Cordelia was...understandably worried. This was a lot. On the
one hand, she was still grieving the loss of her childhood best
friend, but on the other, they had thrown her a curveball she
wasn't prepared for. At all. Hell, Delia had never even thought
of having children. Honestly, Callie was the first person in her
friend group to even have a kid, and meanwhile, Delia had been
on an increasing number of bad dates. She hadn't even considered
anything serious, and now they wanted to her to just... marry
Tony, like it was easy to just... give up a chance at maybe
finding real love. Delia didn't know what the hell she would do
here. Granted, Abbie needed them, and she was just a toddler....
But this... this could be a deal breaker. Why did it have to be
Tony? God, Callie knew how badly the date had gone.
Delia was pacing, running her hands through her hair. Half of
her knew she had to calm down, and quickly. She tended to lose
control of her shifting abilities when she was stressed or
panicked. It was a Fae trait. She could shift into another
person as she chose, or she would shift to her fae form. Neither
would be good right now. She was in public, and the world didn't
understand the supernatural. Luckily, Abbie wouldn't start to
show her powers until she was like 14, so Delia had time. Oh
that was the other thing. She couldn't just leave Abbie with
human parents who would never understand her. After all, Abbie
had powers just as Callie and Delia did, including the
telepathy. Abbie had showed that off to Callie and Delia, and
Delia kept hers hidden for the most part.
It wasn't until Tony spoke to her that Cordelia finally snapped
out of it. She nodded, sighing as they walked together. Once
they were in the garden, Delia took a seat on a bench, still
lost in thought. "I know what you're going to say... Please just
don't..." Cordelia practically begged him. "I don't know what to
do, okay?" Cordelia said, trying hard not to lose control of her
abilities. "I mean, honestly, how can they ask something like
this?" Cordelia said with a sigh. "I'm not ready for any of
this..." Cordelia seemed to be ranting.
"I have no idea what to do. This isn't how I pictured my life. I
figured you know, love, marriage, then maybe kids. Certainly not
just... here marry this guy we picked and raise our kid."

Tony couldn't help but notice that Delia's hair looked messed
up, like she'd been running her fingers through it. He could
almost feel the tension and stress rolling off of her. He
couldn't really blame her. It was a lot to place on them so
suddenly. Maybe if Johnathon and Callie had had the chance to
sit them down and explain their reason for asking them to do
such a crazy thing..they might have been able to prepare for
       this better.
He felt far more awkward as they made their way out of the
funeral home and into the garden outside. He let out a sigh of
his own, and moved to sit down next to her. Tony couldn't help
but frown when she started off begging him not to speak.
Well..fine.. she could speak first then.
Tony listened silently as she spoke, seeming to panic more with
each word that fell from her mouth. "No one would ever be ready
for this sort of thing," He finally said looking at her with a
sad expression on his face. "Do you think I'm ready for this? I
am as shocked as you are,"
Tony ran a hand through his hair. "Though..I'd do anything for
Johnathan and Callie. They were the closest thing I have to a
family, Abbie included. She's already lost so much..I can't just
walk away from her. She deserves so much better than that." He
said trying to not lose it and cry in front of Delia.
He lost that battle a few moments later and blinked as water
started to fill the corners of his eyes. "Dammit,,,this
shouldn't have happened. John and Callie were so happy..they
deserved so much better than this."
Tony turned his face away and rubbed his eyes dry with his hand.
He let out a sigh, thinking over how to bring up the subject of
how he really felt about her. "You may not believe me,
especially after you ghosted me and all..but after our first
date and that night together..I started having deep feelings for
you. I think..I am falling in love with you."

Delia had to wonder how long her friends had planned this
without telling them. It was insanity. How could anyone throw
this on them? Delia did notice that Tony sat beside her, and she
leaned her head on his shoulder. If anyone understood what she
was feeling, it was Tony. She was close to breaking down, and
was soon crying into his shoulder. She couldn't help it. This
was all just too much for her. Yes, Abbie needed her, she knew
that. "Look, Tony...I have to do this....I don't think I can,
but I have no choice." Cordelia said with a sigh. "There are
things you don't know, about me, about Callie and Abbie." Delia
said, wondering how she was going to handle this whole mess. She
didn't want to tell Tony about it. No one knew her secrets, and
she preferred it that way. "I will not explain it, so do not
ask." Delia said with a sigh. She honestly wasn't ready to do
this. Besides, what? Marrying Tony? God, their date was arguably
the worst date she had ever been on, and she didn't think he was
even into her. Aside from the one time having sex, it wasn't
like they even talked much before. Except pleasantries.
It was actually nice to see Tony cry, if only because it made
her feel like she wasn't alone in this. Feeling so lost. Callie
had been like a sister to her. "They had it all. Real, true
love, the perfect family, house, everything. Callie said they
were trying for another kid." Delia said to him. It felt so
unreal. Cordelia couldn't help but feel so defeated. Now she
would never have a chance to have love... And what was left?
Tony and a child that she loved. It became obvious that Tony had
something to say to her, so she pulled away to look him in the
eyes. But then, Cordelia was left in total shock at Tony's
words. She opened her mouth, but words wouldn't come out.
Cordelia had to stand up and turned away from Tony as her face
morphed against her will. What the hell was wrong with him? She
forced herself to relax and forced her hair and face to go back
to how it was, hoping that Tony didn't notice it. It was obvious
the stress was taking it's toll on her.
"I'm sorry?" Cordelia finally responded to his words. Tony had
to be insane. Completely and totally insane. That was all she
could process from this. "Our date was terrible. I was pretty
sure you weren't into me. I mean you spent most of the time
flirting with that waitress for crying out loud!" Cordelia said
to him. Delia sighed. "You can't love me. You don't even know
anything about me." Cordelia tried to argue. "All you know is
that I was tipsy and I am attracted to you." Delia said to him.
Cordelia took a deep breath before sitting down next to him and
taking his hand. "I can't promise you I'll fall in love with
you..." Delia said to him before continuing. "We're getting
married... for Abbie." Delia said, trying to figure out how she
wanted to say this. "I will give you another chance though. I
suppose we could use their babysitter and try to go on another
date...." Delia finally agreed, before moving a bit to kiss him
softly. "I did like our night together, the makeouts and the
sex." Delia said after the kiss.

Tony was a bit surprised when Delia leaned her head on his
shoulder. It hadn't been something he had ever expected from the
woman. Though..it had been a sad day for her, and she was more
than likely overwhelmed from loss, grief and now shock at the
       situation they were in.
Tony felt exactly what Cordelia was saying. They really didn't
have any other option than to marry one another and raise Abbie
together. Sure they could have tried to do it as singles..but if
something were to come up and some distant relative tried to
come and steal Abbie away..that wouldn't be good at all.
He frowned, feeling a bit confused by Delia mentioning there
being things about her, Callie and Abbie that she couldn't tell
him. "Okay, if you need to keep your secrets, keep them." He
said softly. not wanting to stress her out even more.
Tony nodded when she talked about what their friends had had
together. "Yeah..John told me about that. He was hoping they
might have a boy." He said in a slightly choked tone. Now that
       would never happen.
The shocked look on the woman's face at his confession made Tony
wish he hadn't said it. Maybe revealing it today hadn't been a
wise move on his part. He waited on the bench, letting her walk
away and pace feeling like the biggest ass in the entire world.
"Great move Tony old boy, shocking the poor girl even more." He
       muttered to himself.
Her response wasn't a total surprise after all their first date
had been interrupted by an extremely handsy and annoying
waitress. "Wait what?" Tony asked feeling very shocked at her
       perspective of what had happened.
"She was coming on to me and I was trying to let her down
gently. I never came on to her. I swear! She was touching me and
flirting all night long." He insisted.
Tony let out an even louder sigh when she insisted that he
couldn't love her and that he didn't even know her.
"Well..I know more than you think. Callie told me about you..and
she and John did set us up on the date. Do you think she would
have done that to you if she thought I was a bad match? She was
a matchmaker for heaven's sake! Until us, she had ta perfect
record." He added and ran a hand through his hair.
Tony let out another sigh and ran a hand down his face. "If I
had known you were tipsy that day I wouldn't have done anything.
You didn't look seem drunk or tipsy to me."
It seemed as though there had been a lot of mistaken cues
between them and it made Tony feel horrible for not realizing it
sooner. He would have tried to fix it if he had. He glanced up
when she sat down next to him and then took his hand in her own.
Tony didn't know how he felt about her next words; perhaps
sadness that she might never feel the same way. Everyone
deserved love. "Okay," He agreed softly and squeezed her hand
gently. "We'll get married for Abbie. She comes first. We can
take it slow with one another..see if we can make it work
between us. If not..then..we can have an open marriage. I want
you to be happy, too Delia." He told her.
Tony hadn't been expecting her to lean in to kiss him and sat
there stunned at the wave of emotions and sensations that went
through him. "I-I did too." He murmured, staring into her
luminous eyes. "Shall we go in and get married then? We can
go..look for rings after, " He added.

Cordelia watched as Tony reacted to her words. Had he really not
noticed that he had been more focused on the waitress than on
her? It had been a shame, after all, she couldn't deny she was
attracted to him. "I don't know, that's what it looked like to
me. That's why I never bothered to respond to you. I figured
there was no point in trying to pursue anything between us when
you were clearly not interested." Cordelia said to him with a
sigh. "Fine, you're right. She was a matchmaker, so why not give
this another try?" Delia asked him happily. When he mentioned he
wouldn't have done anything had he known she was tipsy, Delia
smiled. "Don't regret it, really. I can't remember the last time
sex was so good." Delia said to him.
When he mentioned taking things slow between them, Delia let out
a laugh. "Mm, I never said we had to take things slow." Delia
teased playfully. As they kissed, Delia moved so she was
       straddling his lap.
"Or we could make out for a while. Then we can go home as
husband and wife, and have some real fun together." Delia said
with a wink at Tony. She lost herself in kissing Tony again,
feeling all those feelings rise in her again.
Damn, she really did like him, and kissing him was addicting,
not to mention that their one night together had been
incredible. When she finally pulled away, Delia smiled. "All
right, let's go get married. Then we can find some rings... I
want an engagement ring too." Delia said happily. "After that,
we could probably go home, put Abbie down for her nap and
consummate our marriage." Delia teased with a wink.

Tony decided it was best to just let the misunderstanding go.
They might have wasted some time, but there was the possibility
that they'd be able to make it up now. "Well..let's just leave
that in the past then. There's no need to dwell on it now." He
       told her seriously.
He was rather surprised when Delia insisted he not regret it and
then admitted that it had been good for her.
"Then I won't. I"m glad it was good for you, it was pretty
incredible for me as well." He admitted.
Tony cocked his head to the side when she laughed at him, and
then playfully teased him. He hadn't expected her to say
something like that! When she moved to straddle him, a soft
       groan escaped him.
"The things you do to me should be illegal," He moaned out. His
eyes darkened when she suggested they could make out and then go
home and have more fun together. His body tensed and he could
feel his member start to react to her closeness.
"We..could do that," He agreed before she was devouring his
mouth in another deep kiss. His hands automatically moved to
wrap around her waist and he pressed into the kiss eagerly.
Tony was softly panting and his body was getting even more
turned on by the moment when she pulled out of the kiss and
agreed with him on getting married. "Yes to all of the above,"
He managed to get out and then helped her off his lap and stood
       up.
"After you beautiful," Tony said and followed after her,
       discretely adjusting his pants.

Cordelia couldn't help but smile as she heard Tony. Her face
went red as he said it was incredible for him too. Still, she
couldn't deny that fact, even if they hadn't tried an actual
relationship before. His moaned words had Cordelia smiling
happily at him. "You really are hooked on me, huh?" Delia teased
him playfully. When Tony gave into the kiss and wrapped his
hands around her waist, Delia let out a happy moan. The truth
was Tony had always been good. A good kisser, good in bed.
Honestly, she very much liked it. "I always did like kissing
you..." Delia admitted as she caught her breath. She could tell
he was getting turned on, and honestly, so was she.
Tony agreed to her ideas, and before long, Delia was helped off
of his lap. She blushed when he called her beautiful, before
smirking as she saw him adjust his pants to cover the hard on
that was growing. "Don't worry, Tony... You can put that in me
later." Delia teased with a wink, taking his hand as they walked
into the attorney's office. "We've talked it over..." Cordelia
said with a smile. "So, okay, marry us now please." Cordelia
said. "Then you'll help us so we can adopt Abbie?" Cordelia
       clarified with a smile.
"Okay, so the first thing you need to decide before we marry you
two... Cordelia, do you plan on taking Anthony's last name?" The
attorney said to them bluntly. "It would be in Abbie's best
interest to share the same last name as both of her parents. She
is young, she will probably only know you two as mom and dad."
The attorney explained to them both.
Delia looked at Tony hesitantly, trying to decide what she
wanted to do. "I suppose yes, if it's what's best for Abbie..."
Cordelia finally said, feeling weird about this whole thing
again. She squeezed Tony's hand nervously, before smiling at
him. "What is your last name anyway?" Cordelia asked, realizing
she honestly didn't know what name she was taking here.

"It's more than hooked," Tony replied honestly. "I'm completely
       done for,"
He was a little surprised when she admitted that she had liked
kissing him, especially since she had gone out of her way to
avoid him for the past two months. He knew that hadn't meant
that she had avoided other men, but shook the thought out of his
head. She was committing to him..and was planning on marrying
       him.
His face heated, as did the rest of him as memories of their one
night together flashed through his mind when she teased him. He
let out another groan and grasped her hand as they made their
way back to the attorney's office.
Tony squeezed her hand as she started talking with the attorney
and then verified that the man would help them with adopting
       Abbie.
He hadn't really thought about the semantics, but he did like
the idea of them sharing the same last name. He was a bit
surprised when Delia asked him what his last name was. Had she
forgotten it? Or..had she ever heard it? "It's Darring." He
       replied softly.
"All right, so here's the marriage license, if you both could
sign it, we can get started," The attorney said and set the
certificate paper out on the desk in front of them.
Tony let Delia sign her name before he leaned down to write his
own down. The attorney collected the paper, and added his own
signature as a witness and had his secretary sign as the second
       witness.
The wedding ceremony was a short one and took mere minutes..far
from the wedding that Tony had wished to have one day. He was
sure that Delia probably felt the same way. He drew her in his
arms and kissed her deeply. "We'll have another wedding one
day," He promised her softly. "One that will be unforgettable."
The adoption papers were signed and witnessed and Tony helped
collect Abbie's things and they were soon heading off to
Johnathon and Callie's house. They finally pulled up to the
house. Abbie was starting to fuss a bit and Tony glanced back at
       the 18-month-old.
"If you want to get her, I can bring in everything else," He
said glancing over at Delia. "Then I can help you try and get
       her down for a nap."
Even though taking care of a baby was new to him, Tony wasn't
about to leave it up to Delia to do it all. This was a
partnership, and he planned on being involved in every way he
       could.
