Portia adjusted the strap of her book bag and glanced around the
hallway kicking her feet as they dangled over the bench outside
the headmaster's office. She chewed on her lip as she awaited
her turn to talk to the man. She really hadn't thought that it
would be this nerve-wracking meeting a new headmaster and
explain why she had transferred to Ilvermorny. It was rather
embarrassing that she had been kicked out of Hogwarts after only
a month back after the summer break.
She just hoped the man would give her a chance at being a model
student, and not judge her on her past actions. She sighed again
and ran a hand through her curly hair. She wondered what the
other girl might be saying to the headmaster. It seemed a bit
odd that both she and the redhead had both transferred at the
same time. She imagined that the other girl hadn't done
something stupid and gotten kicked out like she had.
Portia could imagine what her friends at Hogwarts were thinking,
that she Portia, a Hufflepuff no less had broken a major school
rule and gotten kicked out. Hopefully, they would write her, if
not well..then they really weren't her friends. Great, now she'd
be starting over at a new school where she didn't know anyone,
       well save Holden.
She brightened when that thought hit her. The boy she had met
over the summer in California went to school here! She would
know someone! Perhaps she and Holden could pick things up where
they had left off when they had parted ways over the summer. She
grinned wider and sighed recalling just how sweet the boy had
been and the fun they had had together.
She glanced up when the red-headed girl came out of the office
and then stood up ready to go in and talk to the headmaster. "Oh
you needn't talk to me, your parents have told me everything
that I need to know Ms. Dunaman." The headmaster said. "give me
a few minutes and I'll take you two to the sorting. Why don't
you two get to know each other a bit, you're both new here. You
could help each other out." The man suggested then disappeared
       back into his office.
Portia sighed in relief and glanced at the redhead. She looked
oddly familiar. "Wait, Electra?" She asked with a look of
surprise. "It's me, Portia!" She said with a wide grin. "We hung
out with Holden and Nolan several times during the summer." She
added in case the girl had forgotten.

"Listen Miss Peters, I can't promise things will be different
here, but we will get you into private tutoring sessions so you
can hone your skills, which might help your chances of
       normalcy."
As Electra listened to the headmaster of Ilvermorny speak to
her, Electra couldn't help feeling out of place. With these
Americans, Electra was completely lost. Honestly, she wished her
parents hadn't pulled her from Hogwarts. Even with the bad
bullying she had experienced there, Electra had two friends that
had helped her through it. Still, it would be nice to have
someone to help her learn to hone her legillimency. Electra was
naturally gifted at legillimency, but as a teenager, it was
still harder to control than she'd like. Electra was picked on
at Hogwarts for it all of the time.
After the headmaster had told the teacher to be expecting
Electra later in the day, Electra was sent on her way out of the
office. At least she knew someone here, Nolan. Wait, Nolan! The
boy she'd met over the summer! Maybe they would be able to pick
up where they'd left off with their summer romance! That would
at least mean she'd have someone here to confide in. Heck, it
was only a month ago, right?
After she'd been escorted out, Electra saw another girl. Well,
more accurately, was advised to get to know the other transfer
student. Electra looked at the other girl curiously. She seemed
familiar, but Electra couldn't place the other girl. Well, at
least the other could place her. Before long, Electra was
smiling at the other girl as she listened to the other talking
to her. Finally, Electra spoke softly. "Oh hey! It's good to
know someone here." Electra said, though she hadn't spoken much
to Portia and knew very little about the other girl. "Well, I'm
sure we could become friends in time." Electra added with a
       smile.

Portia was relieved when Electra smiled back at her and leaned
in closer to listen as she spoke so she could pick up what the
other girl was saying. She was pretty soft spoken so it was a
little harder for Portia to make out her words.
"Yes! I was thinking I wouldn't know anyone here, save for
Holden and Nolan. Of course, I know Holden a bit more, but they
are friends so I gather we'll get to hang out often. If they
haven't..moved on already." She added with a sigh. "Gods I hope
not." She said more to herself.
She knew that often times summer romances didn't really go
anywhere. She rather hoped that wouldn't be the case this time.
Portia had thought her and Holden had gotten rather close over
the summer. It would be nice if they could be boyfriend and
girlfriend. Of course, she shouldn't count her chickens before
they hatched, as her American grandmother was always telling
       her.
"Yes, I am sure we will be great friends!" She replied excitedly
with a bright smile. "We can help each other track down Nolan
and Holden later." She suggested with a giggle.
The headmaster's door opened and he came out. "If you're ready
to go, I'll take you to get sorted now," He told them with a
       faint smile.
Portia stood up and smoothed out her skirt. "I'm definitely
ready!" She said shooting him an eager smile. "So Ilvermorny has
four houses if I recall correctly. How is your sorting system?"
       She asked curiously.
The headmaster grinned at her eagerness and started walking and
lead them to the entrance of the school where the four statues
stood and directed Portia to stand in the middle of the Gordion
knot on the floor. Portia moved to do so and was rather started
when one of the statues raised an arrow in its hand.
"Congratulations you've been chosen to be in the Pukwudgie
House. Your trunks will be sent to your sorted house and a
senior student will show you where your room is when you
       arrive." The headmaster told her.
Portia grinned and moved back to watch and see what house
Electra would get sorted in. She had a feeling that they'd end
up in different Houses. Not that she'd be bothered by it in the
slightest. She recalled from reading about Ilvermorny that the
Pukwudgie house was rather similar to the Hufflepuff house.
       Rather fitting for her.

Hearing Portia, Electra sighed. "You're from Hogwarts too,
aren't you?" Electra asked, trying to figure out why they barely
knew one another. "How come we aren't already friends?" Electra
asked with a small smile at the other girl. When Portia
mentioned the fact that they boys could have already moved on,
Electra sighed. Well, summer romances tended not to work out or
last past the summer. Electra figured if Nolan had moved on,
that was fair. Besides, she had liked him, but maybe it wasn't
love. Electra had always known it was meant to end, so she
didn't hold out too much hope for the romance to continue here.
At least they might be able to continue being friends. For what
it was worth, their friendship had been strong, and Electra had
kept in contact with Nolan for the past month, he was becoming
her best friend, even a continent away.
When Portia spoke again, Electra giggled. "It'll be nice to have
a friend here. Plus, if all four of us become good friends, then
I'll have more friend than I had at Hogwarts." Electra said, not
elaborating as she adjusted her mini skirt. Standing up, Electra
felt odd, wearing a blue and cranberry robe along with her
longsleeve shirt and black corset and the mini skirt. She would
get accessories like a tie and a pin to show her house, once she
was sorted. Goodness, Electra couldn't help being excited about
the sorting process. From all of her reading about Ilvermorny on
the ride up here, Electra had realized that Horned Serpent was
the closest to her previous house, Ravenclaw, at Hogwarts.
Once the headmaster reappeared, Electra stood up and grabbed her
over the shoulder book bag to follow the instructor. It was
weird to be sorted again at the age of 16, but then, things
weren't that strange here. It felt nicer here, maybe even safer
for her. Well, at least with a Legillimens to learn form,
Electra could actually enjoy her least two years of schooling.
Besides, no one knew what she was here.
Electra watched happily as Portia was sorted. The sorting
process was rather bizzare, and Electra almost jumped watching
the statue move an arrow in it's hand. What would happen when
she tried? Electra couldn't help wondering what would happen.
Though Electra would admit this sorting process seemed a lot
better than Hogwart's way. Taking a deep breath, Electra moved
to stand in the middle of the Gordian Knot. When two statues
moved, one beating it's wings and the other's crystal in it's
forehead glowed, Electra was rather confused. What did that
       mean?
"My dear, because both the Horned Serpent and the Thunderbird
have moved, you now get to decided which house you would prefer
to be in. It's rather rare to have two or more houses chose you
to be in their house." The Headmaster explained to Electra as
she stood around looking at the two statues, lost in thought.
"I suppose I pick Horned Serpent." Electra finally said before
the headmaster explained that her belongings would be brought to
the house she'd chosen and that an older student would help her
find her room. They would share a bedroom with the girls in
their year, but Electra figured that wouldn't be too bad. Once
the two of them were sorted, the headmaster began to speak to
       them again.
"Alright ladies, you'll be seeing a lot of one another soon.
Horned Serpent and Pukwudgie houses take all of their classes
together. Seeing as you're in the same year, the two of you will
probably be sitting next to each other for courses." The
headmaster explained as the four of them walked towards the
dorms. The dorms were all near to one another, with secret
entrances to their houses. Once Electra and Portia had been left
in front of their respective entrances, across the hall from on
another while the Thunderbird and Wampus houses were down the
hall, the headmaster left the two girls alone while they waited
for a senior student to come out and teach them how to get into
their houses and where to go for their beds.
Electra was nervous. It was scary that all of this was
happening. Suddenly, another female appeared, teaching Electra a
sort of code to press on the brick walls that opened the door to
the Horned Serpent common room. After they'd stepped in, the
other showed Electra where her bed was, with all of her years
       girls.

Portia nodded at Electra's question. "Yes," She eyed Electra
wondering where she was going with this line of questioning. She
half smiled at Electra and giggled. "I really do not know.
Perhaps we were in different houses and running in different
crowds." She said thoughtfully. "I was in the Hufflepuff House."
Noticing Electra's long sigh Portia turned to look at her with a
quizzical look on her face. She wondered what the other girl was
thinking. Was she too considering if her summer fling would
still be available and open to resuming their summer romance?
She smiled a little at that thought. It would be so fun if both
the boys got back with them and they ended up being couple
friends. Though..maybe she was thinking too optimistically. It
was possible, most people said she let her mind fly too close to
the rainbows most days. Everything wasn't always rainbows and
butterflies after all, or at least everyone kept telling her.
"It will be nice to have friends! That would be great." She
agreed with a wide smile. She blinked her brow furrowing
slightly at the news that Electra hadn't had many friends at
Hogwarts. It made her wonder just why the girl had only a few
       friends.
She watched as Electra stood up and joined her. Too much sitting
was bad after all, she would end up slumping and that wasn't a
good thing at all. She was trying to change that habit so she
       looked taller.
Portia was a bit surprised when Electra got two statues to move
for her. She couldn't help but be impressed, it was rather rare
as she understood for such a thing to happen. She was a bit
disappointed that Electra had been chosen by two different
houses other than her own. She was rather happy to hear that
their houses shared most of the same class schedule and that
they'd be sharing a desk space.
"I guess it's fated for us to be besties then," She said winking
at Electra as they walked with the headmaster to the wing where
all the dorms were located. She actually thought it was smart to
have the dorms all in the same area of the castle instead of all
       over like in Hogwarts.
"So after we're settled and have all our things unpacked, shall
we meet out her after and walk to the Great Hall..I mean
cafeteria?" Portia asked as they waited for their senior
students to come out to show them around their dorms.
Portia waved to Elextra and moved to talk with her own senior
student who showed her how to get into the Pukwudgie Dorm. She
followed the tall brunette inside rather wide eyed and took in
everything carefully with inquisitive eyes. She found her trunks
and her familiar waiting for her near an empty bed. It took her
a few minutes, using a few spells to unpack and get everything
put away how she liked it. Then Portia moved towards the
communal bathroom that all the girls shared. She rearranged her
hair a bit, washed her face and then headed back out to the
       hallway to wait for Electra.

Listening to Portia, Electra giggled. "I was a Ravenclaw. And I
tended to hang out in the common room of the tower a lot."
Electra said, thinking about her experiences at Hogwarts. When
Electra saw Portia's reaction to her statement that she hadn't
had friends, Electra sighed. "It's kind of complicated. I was
bullied a lot at Hogwarts for something I had no real control
over. My parents pulled me out of Hogwarts to stop it." Electra
finally said. She didn't need to explain to Portia that she was
a legilimens, especially when she still couldn't control it
entirely yet. Luckily the headmaster had promised her a tutor so
that she could hone her Legilimency. Electra couldn't help being
       excited about that.
It would be nice to have a friend in Portia. After all, Electra
wanted true friends in her life, and Portia seemed like the kind
of girl who could potentially become one of her best friends.
Electra giggled when Portia said they were fated to be besties.
"I guess so!" Electra responded before nodding at Portia's words
about meeting up later on. Of course they would! Electra
imagined she might be glued to Portia, at least until she found
Nolan. Well, that was if Nolan hadn't already moved on.
Before long, Electra was memorizing how to get into the Horned
Serpent dorm, taking in everything her new dorms had to offer.
It was nice that they had a common room like Hogwarts did. Plus,
it seemed similar enough that Electra might not hate this
adjustment too much. After all, this was a new start. No one
would need to know about her. Maybe here, she would have
       friends.
In her room, Electra used magic to unpack her things and
decorate her area a bit. Once it was to her liking, Electra
smiled. It was perfect! Her black cat was in it's crate near her
bed. Afterwards, Electra went to the bathroom the girls all
shared, checking her hair before heading back out to the
hallway. When she was there, Electra smiled at Portia. "You
ready?" Electra asked as she looked at Portia with a smile.

"Well that explains it," Portia said with a grin after listening
to Electra's reply. "I think I went to the Ravenclaw all of one
time if I recall correctly." She mused. "I'd say the Ravenclaw
common room was the coolest of all of them."
Portia could tell that Electra wasn't surprised at her own
reaction and listened feeling her heart go out to the other
girl. She had been bullied before herself and hated to hear that
Electra had been bullied so much that her parents had moved her
out of the school. It sounded a bit strange that it was
something she couldn't control, which made her wonder what she
meant. However, Portia didn't want to push the girl about it. It
seemed to be a touchy subject to her and she didn't want to
       upset Electra.
"Well, they had better deal with bullies better here, cause if
someone gives you a hard time I'm not going to just sit back and
watch." She told the girl rather passionately. It was a bit
strange that she was already so protective of Electra, but that
was her style. She usually jumped at the chance to become a
friend with whoever let her and she'd do anything for them.
Probably why she had managed to get talked into breaking a major
rule and then getting transferred. Perhaps she should change
that..try not to be so willing to do whatever it took to be
       someone's friend.
She was leaning against the wall whistling to herself when
Electra came out. She nodded at the pretty red head and finished
whistling her merry tune as they started to walk down the hall.
"I think..the cafeteria is on the other side of the school," She
said trying to recall the map of the school that she'd been
looking over at the beginning of the morning.
"It's still a little early for lunch, so I suppose we could do a
bit of exploring while we walk there." She suggested looking
       over at Electra.

With Portia, Electra smiled. It was amusing that Portia was
promising to help her if anyone bullied her. "Well I appreciate
that, thank you." Electra said with a small smile at Portia. It
was nice to have someone accepting her so early on, especially
with Portia, who could potentially become one of her best
friends. Now that they were wandering the school, Electra
smiled. It was like Portia could read her mind when she
mentioned going to explore the school. "Ohhh, I can't wait!"
Electra exclaimed as they walked through the school.
The pair of them wandered the castle grounds of the school. It
was amazing how the school looked so ancient but was really so
modern. They were given tablets with a pen and notepad app to
use to study and take notes. Even their class books were on the
tablet. Plus they were allowed their cell phones at all times.
It was so much more wonderful than Hogwarts, though Electra
somewhat missed it. As she and Portia found the courtyard,
Electra smiled. "Look at that snakewood tree! It's so cool!"
Electra spoke softly. "Well, not as cool as the whomping
willow." Electra added with a slight frown.
After they had explored and looked at the snakewood tree, it was
time to go to the cafeteria. The pair wandered from the
courtyard to the cafeteria. Electra was shocked at the cafeteria
in Ilvermorny. It was nothing like the great hall at Hogwarts.
The place had smaller tables, and a lot of them. Four people
could fit at one table Electra saw, as the tables and chairs
were rooted into the floor. Still, it was huge. How on earth
were they going to find Nolan and Holden?

Nolan was sneaking glances over at Holden all through their
morning classes, a small smile twitching at the corners of his
mouth. He was still getting used to the fact that he had
feelings for his best friend. They'd been friends since
practically their first day at Ilvermorny and had been through
thick and thin. It was actually kind of poetic that they'd
finally discovered that they had feelings for one another.
It wasn't as though they'd really done much with one another
just yet, just holding hands a little, leaning against one
another and spending nearly every spare moment they had with one
another. Nolan was sure that their friends had noticed that they
were acting differently and awkwardly towards one another. So
far none of them had said anything though. He figured that would
change soon though. Today was the day he planned on kissing
       Holden.
Nolan didn't know when he had decided it, perhaps it had been
that morning when he had met Holden outside of class and saw the
boy biting his lip. Or maybe it had been from watching the boy
take sips from his water bottle during their classes. He didn't
really care who saw, he just couldn't wait any longer to show
Holden just how serious he was about him.
After he followed Holden into the cafeteria he moved to lean
slightly on him. "So what are your plans for the weekend? I
thought we could set up that game console that I got for my
birthday and battle to see who's the victor." He said with a
       grin.
"Maybe we can sneak off and do something fun as well," He said
       with a wink at Holden.
After they had gotten their food the two of them went to grab a
table in a secluded corner and conversed a bit while they ate.
When they had finished Nolan smiled at Holden and looked at him
for a long moment. "So Holden, there's something I've been
meaning to do for awhile now. " He said his eyes focusing on
Holden's lips again. Then before he could change his mind he
leaned in and kissed Holden on the mouth.

Portia nodded at Electra, "Well I'd feel bad if I didn't. You
don't really know anyone else just yet. Us gals have to stick
together, you know have each others backs and all." She replied
running her hand through her short curly hair and shooting
       Electra a grin.
Portia watched as Electra with a happy grin as the other girl's
face light up at her suggestion of exploring the school. "It
shall be lots of fun. I bet there is a lot to see here," She
said glancing around the wide open entrance as they passed
       through it and went outside.
What she found the best part of this school was not having tons
of books to lug around. Though she'd more than likely be
carrying her journal everywhere with her. Writing and keeping a
log of what happened in her every day life was a habit she did
whenever she got a free moment. Who else was going to tell her
       story after all?
She was pretty happy to know that technology worked at
Ilvermorny and that they could use it whenever they weren't in
classes. Not that she had a lot of people to text, since most of
them were in Hogwarts where they couldn't use their phones. Oh
well, at least she'd have games and other things to do if she
       got bored.
"It is a pretty cool tree," Portia agreed with the red head and
took in the strange looking tree closely. She took her phone out
and took a picture of it. "I bet my parents would love to see
this tree," She said to herself. She glanced up at Electra when
she heard the girl talking about the whomping willow tree. "Well
at least this one won't try and kill you if you get too close,"
She said with a shrug. "I am guessing you are feeling homesick
for Hogwarts, it is strange to start at a new school after so
many years of being in Hogwarts. It'll be okay, it'll be fun
here." She told the girl moving to give her a gentle hug.
Portia was glancing around the cafeteria looking for Holden when
they entered. It was a bit different from what she was used to,
but she found she liked how it was set up. "Let's look for the
guys first, then once we find them we can go get our food,"
Portia suggested as she glanced around the room.
It took her a few moments, and they had to walk around the room
before her eyes finally found caught sight of Holden sitting
with Nolan at a table in a corner of the room. Her eyes widened
when she saw Nolan leaning in closer to talk to Holden. Why was
he looking at Holden like that? It looked almost like he was.
"Oh my god!" She exclaimed in shock when the Nolan moved in and
kissed Holden on the lips. "Bloody Hell! Nolan is kissing
Holden!" She hissed grabbing Electra's arm in shock.
