Bubba or what? An alcohol assisted bid, t53

Saw this one and it was odd enough to grab my attention. The
bayo lug was ground off, but by who and when? If bubba did it
and blued it to match he did a great job. What say you guys? I
dont know what to think. Bluing under the wood is fantastic.
Really good bore, no import marks. Matching except for bolt. The
stock has a fugly glued crack. I didnt pay much. I know I can
use it as trade bait if need be.
What say you guys?

PM richardinNY and Tex over at gunboards. They'd be able to
tell you if it was a VN variant, and may have a similar rifle in
their collections.

A lot of the T-53's used in the jungle by the VC had their
bayonets removed because of the noise they could make while
moving through the jungle. I don't know if I have ever seen them
grind the lug off like that, but I don't have much experience at
all with Vietnam bring backs. As Mat said, Richard or Tex would
be the guys with the answers on this one.

That would most likely be my guess too Dave; but I don't think
that completely kills the rifle in this case. It definnetly
takes a lot away from it, but I don't think it kills it.
