great day at the gun show
By: racerguy00 Date: March 1, 2014, 4:09 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Took a three hour drive south with my dad to hit up a show and
B.S. with Zeebill a little at the same time. Made a few 'finds'
while I was there. Bill's one friend not only hooked me up with
an extractor for my Gras rifle but excavated an entire spare
bolt from his parts drawer. Scored two balkan M91s, a 1917 Tula
in a Romanian stock with stock splice for $200, and a mostly
scrubbed 1916 Sestroryetsk with a tiger striped handguard for
$25 plus my one Balkan 91/30 with sling that I had $100 in.
Then when I got home I had a Balkan '39 Tula that had made the
other one expendable waiting for me. I had bought that two weeks
ago cheap and the seller kept dicking around on shipping it.

[quote="racerguy00"]This was the line to get inside an hour
after it opened. The line moved fast though.

Heavily scrubbeed 1916 Sestroryetsk, Serb C marked. Total
mismatch, type one bands. Good bore, counterbored. The stock is
almost black. Not sure why. It's not refinished.

scrubbed Tula, Romanian stock. Dirty but decent bore. Matching
except for bolt. Both rifles have grease caked in everywhere,
the Sestroryetsk has pine needles in the action.

1939 Tula, maybe 10% bluing on the exposed metal, not Finn
marked. Pinned rear sight, wartime stock that's well worn, no
obvious refurb marks.

"1916 Sestroryetsk with a tiger striped handguard for $25"
typo?

$25 cash plus my balkan 91/30 with leather sling. I had $100
wrapped up in those. Found out tonite someone put the
sestroryetsk in s one-piece finn stock. So its a parts rifle,
but these days those are some expensive parts they used.

That show was 140 miles south of me in WV, and it was 50 degrees
there. Mud everywhere. Big plowed up piles of snow but that was
it. Today the temp dropped a ton. I dont know if they got snow
there but we got a bunch plus what we still had on the ground.

No SA stamps?

No SA stamps, no renumbered rear sight, balkan sight wedge
present. Scrubbed like most Balkans. The stock and handguard are
arctic birch, stock has old pine tar type finish, finn brass
shims and the barrel channel clearanced like for a stepped
barrel. Tang impression in the wood is from a 1915 tula.

I could probably deal with the scrubbed eagles on those two. ;)
