       I had heard the 1920's phosphate theory before too, and that
       would make sense. Mine is a 1928, and that also lines up with
       Radom and JLieper's thought as well. I do admit, the ex sniper
       in the original post does not look the same as the other three
       rifles, but the fact that some are dismissing that the Soviets
       ever did any other finishes on Mosin rifles was kind of
       troubling me, since some of these finishes are clearly very very
       old. I'm glad you told me KH has address this before and it was
       a 1920's thing. That time period also lines up with some of the
       post revolution changes in production due to the loss of skilled
       labor and later the implementation on Stalin's 5 year plan. I'm
       glad I did bring this topic up over here. Thanks Des!
