Let's bring this discussion here.....

Well, these rifles have been brought up on other forums; but I
want to get some feedback here. I'm not sure of the history of
the original posted rifle; but I am sure of the rifle I posted.
Gunboards has had mixed reviews on the original rifle, but The
Russian Mosin Nagant Forum won't even discuss it. What is your
take guys?

Honestly the thing that made me bring it here is a mod on RMNF
deleted two of my posts shoing the pics of my rifle that I
bought directly from RGUNS a few years back. The rifle I have
only has the gray finish on the receiver and the barrel,
everything else is your typical blued refurb finish. The finish
was not done during the last refurbishment of this rifle,
excessive wear do to bayonet use is apparent on the barrel near
the muzzle. Not to mention the patina on those worn areas is
very very old. The Soviets did their normal slop black paint
over these area's during the last refurbishment of the rifle,
but that has since melted off during normal range use to reveal
the old patina and exposed raw metal and patina on the barrel. I
don't think my rifle is even parkerized, but I do think (by the
suggestion of Joe Lieper and Steven "Radom" Henderson) that it
may have been blued in an earlier less common chemical process?
What have you guys seen that relates to this?

Hate to mention it, but its a little suspicious that everyone
who vouches for the rifles coming from the importer that was has
an "ff" in there handle. I was inclined to believe it when I
read the gunboards thread, but now I'm unsure. dolk seems like
a b hole junkyardogs reply makes sense though

Sean, I just posted on Dolks forum about an Rguns refurb that I
handled a while back that was consistent with yours. Only one
Dunhams had like it, and only refurb I've ever handled to this
day like it.

I've only recently been made aware of the "parkerized" Mosins
turning up. I always thought it was black slop paint and done as
far as refurbishment. Even if it skipped refurbishment,
parkerization rusts over time, or at least has pretty obvious
patina. It doesn't look like those rifles have either. Not sure
if it's Bubba or some weird ass "new" refurb style. Either way,
it will be cool to let this one un-cover itself in time.

Zeebill's 07 carbine for comparison.

I was wondering where that picture went. Yours sounds reasonable
because of the black paint on the end of the barrel. I also
agree with the ff in the names and was wondering about that. I
don't mind reading and discussing different rifles especialy
found by collectors. I thought you had deleted that post. Wasn't
aware that dolk did it. No reason for that

So is your serial highlighted or did you do that to make it show
up better Clayshooter? I would believe the rifle that was parked
on the barrel and such with the other parts not parked and
coming from the Russians or Ukraine. I would wonder on the
rifles that have al metal parts parked. Lets say you are doing
the refurb process and you have a pile of parts laying there to
choose from. To get all parked would mean that those rifles saw
single rifle attention almost and not been through the mass
refurb that the other rifles went through. Wouldn't that mean
that they should basicly be all matching original or at least
have the same arsenal parts? On yours I think your bands and
stuff are blued right Clayshooter? This to me would make perfect
sense in a rifle that was parked for some reason early and then
refurbed and then imported. I have not seen a rifle with a part
here and there with a parked part on them but not saying that
does not exist. Just a little rambling I guess. :-\ I wonder
what the make up of years and arsenals is on the parked ones.

Des, you are correct. The barrel bands, the magazine, the
trigger, etc are all normal blued. The thing is the feel of the
finish on the receiver and barrel feel and wear like a normal
blued rifle. It is only the color that looks like it a
parkerized gray. When it was covered in cosmoline it didn't even
look as gray as it does once I wiped it down. As far as the
serial number goes, I did not highlight that, it is either dried
cosmoline or oxidation (either way, if it is rust it is not
active at all so I left it as I found it). As I mentioned
earlier, I did discuss this on 7.62x54R.net a few years back and
common thought is that is probably a different earlier chemical
process used to finish the rifle. It does look a lot like both
Zeebill's finish and Martin's finish on their rifles. I am just
curious to what it is, when these rifles were finished like
that, and where were they were using that finish?

I just reread the 1907 carbine and saw this on it. Could explain
yours maybe as well.
"Tim the former owner says he asked KHW what the story on that
was and he was told it is Phosphate coated during a refurb
process that took place in I think like 1927 or so"
