       Ross rifle?

So was reading about early 1900's guns and came across this
thing called the Ross, it's in .303brit and it said that it was
very easy to put the bolt back together wrong, and if you did
that the bolt would part ways with the gun! So can any body
       elaborate why this happens?

u read american rifleman. im not 100% on this but i think it
simply will not work. no catastrophic failure that im aware of.
other than failing to fire inn a combat situation

It's also a straight pull but I think that might just be another
       Internet myth?

It is a straight pull. I had a bubba one years ago but not for
long. It was trade bait. I honestly dont remember the issue with
the bolt. I know it was really smooth to use and pretty accurate
       with a well worn bore.
One thing I found out recently was that some ended up in Russua
as aid and were used as emergency rifles defending Moscow. The
Soviets later rechambered them and used them in internation
competitions. Id love a non bubba one

Really? Does anybody know the case dimensions for .303? I don't
think rechambering one to x54r would be that hard. So the Ross's
bad field rep had to come from somewhere, any body know where?

I just looked it up, the Soviets did an entire re-barrel, not
       rechambering.
I think the knock on them was an issue with too tight of
tolerances in the dirt and grime. That and an issue with the
locking lugs, the would deform because they werent robust enough
or something and made it harder to operate over time. They fixed
       it but too late.

[/quote] shame, the Canucks made it too good. Know what year the
ones sent to Russia were rebarreled?
