Dual date non-MO SCW 91/30

---------------------------------------------------------
I posted this rifle on other forums a while back. I thought I'd
share the post here too.
The rifle is dated 1936-7 and is built on a 1936 receiver. From
everything I've been able to find out, the rifles were serial
numbered after final assembly and inspection. Sometimes barrels,
receivers, or in this case barreled receivers were dated one
year and were not completed until the following year. Most
rifles simply have the older date overstamped with the new one.
Some 91/30s from the Tula arsenal were numbered differently in
the late thirties. They, like this one, had the last digit of
the new date added after the older one. 1936-7, 1937-8, and
1938-9 seem to be the only ones reported. This procedure doesnt
seem to be consistent though, there are many examples with the
last older digit overstamped, and rifles with much earlier
serial numbers not redated at all.
After getting the rifle, discovered a few surprises. I was
hoping for a SCW, and I got one apparently. There are no import
marks, and it isn't a refurb rifle. The rifle's trigger,
disconnector, and spring are in the white, and the disconnector
is an older one piece design. There is a little pitting at the
wood line, the bore is very nice. There are no usual SCW
markings on the metal or wood, but there is what I take to be a
Spanish name in the side of the stock. There is a compression
dent in the wrist and the wood is spotted under it. Not sure
what that is about. Also, after comparing it to my 37 Tula USSR
marked 91/30, I realized that the serial numbers were only
around 140 apart. This is probably as close to consecutive
serial numbers on a mosin that I will ever get.
Enjoy!

Here is a comparison of the two rifles, not the closeness of the
serial numbers.

Here is a more common dual date Tula with the 6 in 1936
overstamped with a 7, and a low serial number explaining the
renumbered date.

Whats the square inside the finger grooves? That's not the
first 36-7 SCW we've noted. I like it!
