Probable Spanish-import 91/30 with dice mark
       By: racerguy00 Date: November 8, 2013, 7:20 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I picked this rifle up a few years back. No absolute Spanish
identifiers, but the serial number is close to other known
examples. The roughly sanded stock is also consistent. This
rifle also sports the odd five-punch dice mark that has unknown
       meaning at this time.
This rifle moved on to a friends when I was forced to downsize
       the collection at one point.

The stock finish looks pretty similar to that one I just got.
The 36 Tulas are a bit easier to nail down because we have so
many more of them noted. I personally believe the dice mark is
Spanish in origin. Ted says its a hardness test, but never did
tell me where he got that information. I've never seen it on a
rifle that wasn't of the SCW era or that had import markings
other than "MADE IN USSR" Does the stock have a waxy/greasy
       feeling to it?

The stock did have an odd feel. It wasn't sticky or anything,
but even the rough looking sanding marks felt smoothed over if
that makes sense. Like it had been worn smooth from lots of
handling. The finish wasn't a typical oil finish either.

That is pretty much the way the stock on my SCW M91 is.....
Well, except the spots where the fragmentation damage is.

       Feel a little stupid now...looked a little closer....If I may
ask, why are there now letter prefixes on the magazine floor?

The letter prefixes came in in early '38. I had a 1938 Tula that
had a liw serial number, no prefix and a '37 receiver. There are
no confirmed '38 SCW mosins. If a 91/30 has a part with a letter
prefix on the serial, either it was replaced in the US after
import or it isn't SCW most likely.
I forgot the photo, but the butt plate matched on this one too
IIRC. Same font etc, the bolt was mismatched though.
