       Were older carcanos ever 'refurbed'?

Local shop has an 1893 dated full length carcano. It looks too
good but I'm not sure. Very little bluing wear, the stock is
nearly flawlwss. Oil finish, basically no scratches dings or
scrapes at all. Looks like a brand new stock. Serial number is
stamped on tge left side of the butt in the same font as tge
bubba FAT42 next to it. The numbers are super crisp with no sign
       of sanding whatsoever.
The metal parts are not standing proud above the wood like it
would if it was heavily sanded. It looks too nice but not bubba.
Any thoughts? I wasn't allowed to take pictures, they want $180
firm. Decent bore, numbers natch. No imoirt marks

Personally, I'd get it at that price even if it was Bubba'd but
looked original. You can always sell it later if you find out
it's Bubba. Someone will give you more than that 180 bucks. I
would head back and grab her.......

I'm thinking new unissued stock. The toe is inletted and drilled
for a sling swivel and its screws but none were ever installed.

If you can grab that along with the M38, and you end up not
wanting one, I'm sure the boys here (myself included) would be
more than happy to make your buyer's regret disappear :) Like I
said above, I've always been fond of the design of the Carcano,
it's highly underrated, like the MAS 36. Grab it and post pics,
as I said in the other post, worst case is you turn around and
get rid of it for a couple bucks profit. Either way, it doesn't
look like you can go wrong at this point.

I believe that some were refinished for sale here in the US,
I'll have to ask Richard if it was done here or over there
       though.
