Type 38 Question
By: hashash Date: September 24, 2013, 9:59 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
So I went to a gun shop in the cities on my way back from an
appointment and finally handled this type 38 that's been there
forever. The wood was beat to shit, with some worm hole damage,
the metal was fairly rusty but not pitted, except for the bolt.
I swabbed the bore a bit and it appeared to be okay, next time I
go, I'll take a 6.5 bullet to test the muzzle. It has the mum
and is a bringback. My question is, would it be worth it?
They have it marked at 200, I offered 50, they said they'd call
the old lady and see if she'd do that. I was thinking that ammo
is hard to get, but I could probably make it. Are stocks readily
available or should I just leave it as-is for historical value?
Thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Graf & Sons offer 6.5 brass and one other smaller dealer has
reloaded ammo available. It could be a Chinese capture and
import judging by the condition. Check closely for an import
mark. Either way I wouldn't buy it for $200 in said condition.
Maybe $150 tops OTD.

[/quote] don't know the price, but you can resize and trim .220
swift brass to make 6.5 arisaka brass.

I bought some from mr nambu. Looks ok to me but I haven't got
around to shooting it. I also found some hornady at the local
ace hardware store for a semi reasonable price. I hade a coupon
so it was under 20 bucks. I would buy a jap for 200 and under
likely if it had the mum and was at least recoverable.
