       Question about low numbered 1903's
By: hashash Date: September 24, 2013, 6:38 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
So a guy wants to trade me a 1903 with a 100k serial number
(1905). I've tried looking and everyone says they weren't hear
treated correctly because the nitwits eyeballed the metal for
the temp. Is this an old fable or is this for real?

Shoot it and find out, I didn't think it was a problem until the
quality of ammo decreased around 1918 becuase of the wartime
       mass production of ammo.

.........fucking really? Have you ever had a gun blow up in your
face? It's not fun or worth "trying out".
I'm asking for the simple fact of if I should just opt for his
03a3 instead of this one, the purpose was to not "just shoot it
       and find out".

Everything I've seen said that is a legit concern. But I think
many were re-heat treated during rebuilds but I could be wrong.
If I had a chance at a nice '03 that is that early hell yeah I'd
grab it. If I shot it it would be with reduced loads though. I
mean how often do you see pre-1910 '03 Springfields for sale???

Not very often, but the point of me getting a Springfield is to
shoot the ever-loving shit out of it.

[/quote]just joking around didnt actually mean for you to go do
it. I would opt for that A3 if its going to be a heavyily used
shooter just becuase of the fact of "your mileage may vary" and
you don't know what's happened the receiver.

If you could make a profit on the early date one, flip it, buy a
       shooter and pocket the difference.

SO how much do you think it would be worth? Here are some

I wish I knew more about them. Is it ok if I send the photos to
a guy I know thats big into 03's?. He's an old fogey that
doesn't hit the forums and has had the same hotmail acct for 15
       years.
