Re: AIM Surplus No.5 Mk1's

After cleaning the bore over the past 24ish hours I can safely
say that this by far the worst bore of any milsurp I've owned in
the past decade. I got all of the surface rust out only to find
deep pitting in the rifling and grooves. There is also hardly
any rifling left. I will slug it later to figure out if it's
still in specs :( Hopefully shooting it will help as it usually
does.

Looks like it should be shootable. The rifling in consistent,
consistently rounded/pitted, all the way to the muzzle. No
abnormal muzzle wear though that I can see. I'm going to run
some MkVII through it next week. I slugged it earlier then
remembered it's a 5 groove and therefore tough to use a dial
caliper on. :(

A friend has a Dutch rifle imported from that area. Worn rifling
out to about 5 inches from the chamber, then smoothbore
basically, then more rifling for the last few inches. Sounds
like your rifle.is a lot better. ;D.

I shot various types of ammo through my tired old No5 Mk1 today.
Turns out it won't digest boat-tail rounds which is not uncommon
with Lee Enfields. It key holed every time using 180 Grain S&B,
but it shot well with Prvi 150 grain SP flat-based bullets and
surplus MKVII.
