High wall is wartime, low wall pre-war. 42s will be high wall
unless a recycled receiver is used. The high wall was a
shortcut, less machining etc.

Thankyou, least confusing answer there is. For some reason I
thought that low wall were war time becuase it had less metal,
appears I'm wrong so thankyou for clearing that up.

I've never really looked for one, so I'm not sure. The only '42
dated Mosin I've seen with a low wall receiver was actually a
Finn B-barrel m91 on a low wall late thirties receiver. Uber
rare. The 42 dated b-barrels were assembled post war IIRC, and
99% are on hex receivers.

I'm actually suspecting a recycled reciever, ether way it's
cool.

The Finns never made a mosin receiver, so all Finn built rifles
use recycled receivers if tbe barrel itself is Finn made. But
they didn't seem to use many round recievers that had been on
captured rifles taken from the Soviets during the
Winter/Continuation wars. The one I saw was built post war on a
37 Tula receiver I think. It was strange seeing a full length
m91 with a round receiver.
