Weathering with acrylics.

I've been weathering with acrylics for a while. (Another string
to the weathering bow).
Acrylic washes can be as effective as enamels/oils. The secret
is to wet the surface of the model with a water/washing up
liquid mix which will remove any surface tension and keep the
mix workable for a far longer time than when applying acrylics
direct. I keep a small bottle of water/washing liquid with the
soap diluted so that it tints the water.
These days I start by airbrushing a dust directly onto the lower
edges and tracks/wheels of the modelmodel and fading it using
the hairspray technique.
I find its a good starting point.
So first up Paint to victim and seal the base coats.
Apply chipping fluid/hairspray.
I then airbrush Tamiya Buff thinned with water where I want the
dust to be.
then chip/move the paint around using the normal technique.
It helps if the water is hot and only wet in small manageable
areas.
The longer you leave the paint prior to chipping the harder it
becomes to chip/move.
Once the paint has dried start chipping (rather than just
removing paint try and just move it around to where you want it.
Hope that makes sense.
Tony
